Chapter 26

Saylor had gotten better the next day. Which was good, because the next day was none other than Christmas.

Addie ran down the stairs to get her presents. Saylor and Chase watched her from the stairs as she raced towards the tree. "Mommy! Daddy! Come on!" she said as she saw them.

Saylor and Chase walked over to the couch. "Pick a present," Chase encouraged.

Addie picked the biggest present under the tree. She ripped open the paper, and found that there was a giant teddy bear underneath. "Thank you!" she said happily.

"Come on, let's get dressed," Saylor said. "You'll get to open your other presents when we get to Uncle Jared and Aunt Corki's house."

"Okay!" Addie said happily.

They got dressed, then got in the car. Saylor rested her head on the window again. "Are you okay?" Chase asked.

Saylor looked at the backseat. Addie was playing on Chase's phone with headphones in. She wouldn't be able to hear them.

Saylor sighed. "I'm afraid of what my parents are gonna say," she said. "They don't know about Addie yet."

"Isn't Sapphire coming to this?" Chase asked.

Saylor smiled. Ever since Sapphire had moved away, she had been waiting for so long to see her. "Yup," she replied. "And Hannah, she's gonna be so excited."

Chase nodded, as they pulled into the driveway. Addie got out first, running up to the doorway to meet the twins. Saylor and Chase then got out. "Hey guys," Saylor said as they entered.

"Hey Sayels," Hannah said, hugging her sister.

"Aunt Hannah!!" Addie yelled, jumping into her aunt's arms.

"Hey sweetie," Hannah said.

Hannah hugged everyone else. "I'm gonna go find my parents," Saylor told Chase.

Saylor squeezed through the crowd. She found her mom and the father that had raised her. "Hey sweetie," her mom said, kissing her forehead.

"Hey mom," she said. "Hey dad."

Addie came running up to Saylor, crying. "Addie, what happened?!" she asked, forgetting that her parents were behind her.

"S-sadie pushed me," she said. "And I scraped my knee."

"Oh sweetie, let me see."

Saylor looked at the little girl's knee. "Well, it looks okay," she said. "Why don't you go sit with Daddy?"

"No," Addie whined. "I wanna stay with you Mommy."

"Okay," Saylor said, then picked her up.

She rested Addie on her hip, then turned back to her parents. "Who's this?" Mrs. Davis asked.

"Um, Mom, Dad, this is Addie," she said. "My daughter."

Mr. Davis dropped his glass. "You can't have a daughter!" he yelled.

He scared Addie, and she burried her face in Saylor's shirt. "Shh," Saylor said. "It's okay Addie-Bug."

Chase walked up to them. "Hey are you okay?" he asked. "I heard yelling."

"Yeah, I'm fine," Saylor said. "My dad just scared Addie."

Chase took the seven-year-old girl. He shook Saylor's parents' hands. "Mom, Dad, this is Chase, my boyfriend," Saylor said.

"Well, it's very nice to meet you," Mrs. Davis said.

"But how do you have a child?!" Mr. Davis yelled again.

"We adopted her," Saylor replied.

Both parents' mouths dropped. "What?" Saylor asked. "She was in a shelter, we couldn't say no."

Mr. Davis hugged his daughter. "I am so proud of you," he said. "But raising a child is a huge responsibility, are you sure you're ready?"

"We've made it this far," Saylor said, and smiled at Chase and Addie.

Saylor took her from Chase, then set her on the floor. "Addie, these are your grandparents," she said.

"Hi," Addie said shyly.

After they had been introduced, Caleb walked up. "Hey sis, can you go calm down Jodi? Something's going on, and she won't talk to me."

"Yeah, c'mon Addie," Saylor said, taking her hand.

They found Jodi in Hannah's room, on her bed, crying. Saylor told Addie to get Hannah, Sun Hi, Corki, and Kyler.

Saylor sat on the edge of the bed. "What's wrong Jodes?" she asked.

Jodi sat up. She layed her head on Saylor's shoulder. Saylor wrapped her arm around her. "Hey, it's okay," she said.

Corki, Sun Hi, Kyler, and Hannah came in. "Jodi what's wrong?" Corki asked.

"I just, my parents were harsh on me about the baby," she whispered. "They said once I have him or her that their going to disown me."

All five girls hugged her. "Jodi, we'll support you," Sun Hi promised. "We always will."

"Thanks guys," Jodi said, finally hugging back.

The Christmas party went off without a hitch after that. The next day, Caleb and Jodi went to the doctor to find out the gender of the baby.

After the appointment, they went to Saylor's house. "I can't look!" Jodi exclaimed. "What does it say Saylor?"

Saylor looked at the results in the envelope. She smiled at her brother and Jodi.

"It says you're having a boy."
