I stood in front of the door studying it as I eyed it nervously.
My medicore guitar skills will definitely be ridiculed once I go in so maybe Ta and Becky were wrong about me.
I considered turning on my heels and leaving before anyone could notice me but I remembered my actual goal from this.
I wanted to be close to P'Jeff no matter what.
I closed my eyes and counted to three in my head before I gripped the doorknob.
"For god's sake are you going in or not? There are people waiting to go in and you're blocking the door you damn loser" A voice from behind me suddenly said.
I turned my attention to look behind me immediately as soon as I heard the voice and saw a girl in the same college uniform I was wearing but the only difference is that she had a pink jacket on top and a knee length skirt.
Her hair was long and black and her figure was slim but she had an unwelcoming gaze that sent shivers down my spine.
"Sorry, You can go in if you want" I said awkwardly as soon as I regained my ability to talk.
"Of course you're sorry and of course I'm going in" She rudely retorted in return before walking past me.
Then she opened the door and walked into the room before closing the door behind her.
I ruffled my hair in annoyance then decided to just leave for now, Hopefully that girl won't be accepted into the club.
I walked over to the cafeteria and took a seat on one of the benches then took out my phone.
To my disappointment the video I posted on YouTube didn't get much attention as I hoped but P'Bible and P'Mike left encouraging comments for me.
There was nothing from P'Jeff though which puzzled me but I decided not to push it because he was trying to focus on his work after all.
Ta and Becky walked over to me and took their seats before Ta slung his arm over my shoulder.
"So how did it go? Did you make it into the club?" Ta inquired.
I sighed and shook my head in shame.
"I chickened out" I confessed.
"What? Why? I thought it was what you wanted" Becky said.
I bit my lip and leaned forward in my seat then rested my head on the table.
Becky and Ta patted my shoulder and back but it didn't make me feel better.
"You have got to join that club though because I heard from P'Mike that P'Jeff will be taking up a temporary teaching position for..." Becky started.
"Huh?" I exclaimed as soon as I sat up normally.
"P'Jeff agreed to be a temporary music teacher here for the year" Becky repeated.
"I suppose that's what the college dean wanted to discuss with him. So I think that he's freelancing" Ta remarked.
I ignored this remark though and stood up then quickly rushed over to the music club room once again.
Only to faceplant into someone in my rush.
"Sorry" I apologised quickly before rushing on my way but before I could go any further I felt a hand on my shoulder which caused me to stop running immediately.
"Where to? You might trip and fall down the stairs if you don't pay attention to your step silly" P'Jeff's reprimanding voice said with a teasing tone.
I turned to him immediately and a smile naturally spread on my face as I tried to get over the embarrassment of accidently hitting him.
"Don't tell me that you want to join the music club" He said.
"What if I do?" I inquired.
P'Jeff sighed and took a step closer to me before putting his other hand on my shoulder causing me to go completely still.
"Why do you want to be a musician so much?" He asked.
And even though my reasoning was easy I still didn't have the courage to tell him. What was I supposed to say anyway? That I wanted to have a common ground with him because I've been in love with him for so long?
If I tell him and he rejects me I'll never be able to face him again.
"I just...I...I want to be cool" I stammered.
It wasn't a complete lie because being able to play any instrument was considered to be cool but I considered it a lie because I couldn't really tell him the actual reason.
He looked at me for what felt like a minute then nodded.
"You really want to get that person's attention huh?" He asked.
I nodded in response without saying anything as I kept my gaze focused on the floor.
"If you want my opinion I'd say that you should stop, If that person really loves you they won't care whether you're cool or not" He said then squeezed my shoulder lightly before giving it one last pat.
Then he turned his back on me and stretched his arms.
"I still want to try P" I insisted in a small voice.
He turned to me then shrugged.
"Suit yourself but don't come crying to me if you fail and for the record I'm a strict teacher so don't think I'll give you any special treatment just because I saw you in your diaper phase" He said.
"P'Jeff" I whined in embarrassment.
He walked over to the door and opened it before turning his attention back to me with that same teasing smile he usually had on his face.
"Are you coming?" He asked.
I smiled and nodded then walked over to him before both of us walked into the room.
P'Jeff stepped over to the middle of the room and clapped his hands to call for everyone's attention before gripping the microphone.
"I hope none of you came here to play around because learning music needs serious effort. If you're not up for it then leave the room immediately" P'Jeff said.
Seven girls and five guys left the room and only twelve people including me remained in the room four of which were girls.
"Alright then, We'll start the tryouts. Did anyone prepare a song?" P'Jeff asked.
No one answered though so P'Jeff nodded to himself.
"Alright then, We'll start from the boys to the girls. Each of you will play a song of your choice and I'll pick the winners after hearing each of you play. Only six of you are needed at the club so give it your best shot if you really want to stick around" He instructed.
I looked around the room and managed to spot the girl who insulted me in front of the door when I first stopped by that room and she definitely noticed me as well because she met my gaze and rolled her eyes before shaking her head.
I looked away from her feeling rather angry but I decided not to do anything about it as I mentally prepared myself to play in front of P'Jeff.
After a while I walked over to one of the chairs in the middle of the room and took a seat in front of P'Jeff who smiled at me in encouragement.
I cleared my throat and focused on the guitar on my lap as I felt the blush spread all over my cheeks.
Then I closed my eyes and started playing the first song that came to my mind.
After a few minutes I was finally done so I opened my eyes and saw that P'Jeff was looking at me.
"You've got to be kidding me, You're obviously cheating there's no way you'll be able to play this good without a voice recorder or a phone" The girl remarked.
P'Jeff was still looking at me in silence but he stood up before I could say anything.
"People aren't born with music skills it's something to be taught I'd appreciate it if you don't bully each other at least in my class" P'Jeff said in a voice that sounded cold and authoritative at the same time.
Then he turned to me.
"Good job, You're in with us you can go back to your seat now" P'Jeff said.
I nodded timidly and walked over to my seat.
That was it though, No smiles, No encouraging shoulder pats nothing. I supposed that it was only natural because he's my teacher now but it still felt rather strange.
Was it because of the song I decided to play? I didn't know what happened but he avoided my gaze after I was done with my performance which made me feel disappointed.
I decided to just leave for now though since it was almost time for class anyway.
The students who were there for the club tryouts were now walking out of the room one by one so I followed them to the door.
"Hold it" P'Jeff said before I could walk out of the room.
I turned to him and gulped nervously when I saw the cold look on his face which I never expected to see.
"What's wrong P?" I asked.
"That song, Who taught you how to play it? Where did you even hear it?" He asked in an unusually calm and scary voice.
"I heard it in a movie that I watched with Ta and Becky and taught..." I started.
"Don't play it again" He interrupted.
I frowned in confusion as soon as I heard what he said.
"Is something wrong P'Jeff?" I questioned.
"Don't ask, Just don't play that song again" P'Jeff insisted.
I gulped and nodded as soon as I realised that he was actually angry.
He brushed his hair back and nodded then turned his back on me.
"Leave" He instructed.
I walked out of the clubroom hurriedly heading on my way to my next class.
Ta was waiting for me in front of the lockers when I came to get my books.
"So how did the tryouts go? Did you make it into the club?" Ta asked.
"I guess I did" I answered reluctantly.
I still couldn't understand why P'Jeff reacted like this but I decided that it would be better not to play that song again.
That didn't mean I shouldn't know the reason behind his strange behaviour though.
I made a mental note to ask P'Bible and P'Mike about it later before taking out my books.
"I should go now see you later" Ta said.
I nodded in response before he walked over to his faculty building.
••☆★☆••
I walked over to my room and slumped on the bed then took out my phone to check the progress of the video.
To my surprise I found that the video had actually gained audience of a million people but when I saw P'Mike and P'Bible's complementary comments my surprise faded immediately.
Then a comment from P'Jeff appeared next.
I read the comment once then twice then thrice as my smile grew bigger.
The comment didn't say much it just said that he wished we could play a song together someday.
It didn't just make me happy, I was over the moon so I saved that comment as a text on my phone diary and started replying to some of the comments.
There was of course hate comments but I didn't care about them that much.
I decided to just go study for a bit before going to Ta's house.
P'Jeff was standing outside the apartment complex with a cigarette between his lips but he smiled as soon as he saw me.
"What are you doing here P?" I asked as I looked around trying to spot P'Mike and P'Bible.
"They sent me to get you, The star of the show can't possibly be late don't you think?" He inquired.
"What show?" I questioned with a confused frown.
He smiled again then took my hand and dragged me to the car.
I took the passenger's seat and P'Jeff started driving silently.
"You can go ahead and turn on the radio if you want" He said as he kept his attention focused on the road.
I turned to him briefly then looked in front of me once again.
"It's fine P, I don't mind the silence" I said.
"Suit yourself" He said with a shrug as he kept driving.
Somehow as I looked at the side of his face I was able to remember my curiosity about the song and the reason why it angered him so much to hear it but I didn't have the guts to ask in fear of ruining his mood.
Then I noticed something on his lower lip which looked like a smudge of chocolate.
And just like that I reached out without thinking and brushed my thumb over it.
The car stopped abruptly as I wrapped my mind around the fact that I finally managed to touch him.
Then the panic started resurfacing as P'Jeff looked at me with eyes widened in obvious surprise.
In return my eyes widened as well almost popping out of their sockets.
What the hell did I just do?
"Ummm...I..." I started.
He sighed and looked at the road ahead of him.
"The chocolate caught your attention right? I still have some in the back seat if you want some" He offered.
"Yeah, Of course...Thank you P" I blurted out lamely.
He wiped away his lip with his fingers then smiled.
"No need to worry, I've always been a messy eater whenever it came to chocolate so it's normal if you find some on my lip" He said.
Then he put a hand on my shoulder and patted it before tweaking my ear causing me to wince.
"Though next time it'd be less rude if you just point it out instead of touching someone else's face without permission" He remarked before letting go of my ear.
I chuckled awkwardly and rubbed the back of my neck.
"Sorry P" I murmured awkwardly.
He smiled and ruffled my hair then started driving once again.
"Did you mean what you said P?" I asked after what felt like minutes of silence.
"What are you talking about?" He inquired without looking at me.
I still felt the need to ask him right now though before my sudden spark of courage fades away.
"Do you really want to play a song with me?" I continued.
"Hmmm...I don't see why not" He replied absentmindedly.
And just like that my happiness was back as only one thought came to my mind. He believes in me.
It felt really nice to hear him say that...To me out of all people.
