chapter two

"Wake up," Yoongi growled, pushing Jennie awake, as she had seemed to fall asleep on the couch.

Jennie groaned, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. Once again, she was confused as to where she was, but was terribly reminded of her circumstance when she spotted Yoongi. "It's like 3 am, and you're just now bringing me dinner?" she complained, eyeing the takeout hungrily.

"I haven't eaten yet either, princess," he spat, sitting on the other side of the couch and laying out their food for them. He ignored Jennie completely as he ate, but he still felt like he needed to be with her. Maybe it was because he was lonely this time of night, but he felt more secure eating with someone else. Jennie was only another person whose presence he could feel when he wanted, nothing more. Yoongi had no intention of taking good care of the girl he kidnapped, as he could easily pay her to keep her mouth shut and send her away. Still, sitting and eating with someone felt nice; he planned to keep this routine for a little longer.

His heart could be filled with guilt if he wanted it, but keeping Jennie didn't bother him. He had plenty of blood on his hands and he hadn't even killed her yet. Jennie was simply a dare; a girl he saw and took. Period. He fed her and gave her somewhere to sleep. Wasn't that good enough?

Yoongi found his present self from his thoughts and stood. "I'm going to bed. Eat leftovers tomorrow. I'll be gone all day." With his half-assed goodnight, Yoongi went up the stairs to the main area, locking the basement door until the next night.

The basement had one window, small and low to ground for storm protection, Jennie assumed. The window was at Jennie's knees and about the size of a piece of paper. She observed the glass as extremely thick and almost impossible to break through--perfect for storms. Still, her heart couldn't help but break a little when she realized she wouldn't be able to squeeze through. She spent the hours from her dinner with Yoongi to daylight exploring ways to escape, but her attempts were fruitless.

Jennie couldn't get out. Who the hell builds a basement this secure?! Her mind swam for ideas that fell into the pit of endless thought. Daydreams were more pleasant than escape plans, and Jennie often found herself straying from plotting to imagine random situations. The most disturbing thought her mind sprung upon her was a terrible romance.

Yoongi had come to save Jennie from the scary basement. He held her hand as they walked up the stairs and to the main area. It was a carnival; one with too much cotton candy and free games with prizes. The rides had no lines, but Jennie was only worried about one thing: her favorite ice cream. Coconut birthday cake, a custom flavor made only at her favorite ice cream shop that they were now selling at carnivals...?

"Welcome back, Jennie," the man behind the counter greeted with a malicious smile. "You need to leave him, you know." He cocked his head to the side. "Get out, Jennie." His grin grew all across his face until his skin tore, his last phrase repeating louder and louder. "Get out Jennie. Get out Jennie." His face grew stretched out to the bone from his smile. "GET OUT JENNIE." Everything went white.

Jennie thrashed and shot awake, drenched in sweat. Breath quick and heart beating fast, she sat up against the couch in fear. She expected to see Yoongi, but instead her eye caught the golden light coming in through the small window. How long had she napped? It had to be at least 6 pm. Jennie was losing time. Someone had to know she was here and there wasn't much daylight left for them to see her through the window.

"Get out, Jennie," she whispered to herself. That's what the man had repeated. She needed to focus on her real goal and not get distracted so that she could get out. Jennie fumbled off the couch, letting the room spin to adjust her vision before moving on.

Jennie knew that she couldn't squeeze through the window. Plus, there wasn't much to actually break the glass with. Sure, there were options, but even if the glass did break, all it would do is deem Jennie untrustworthy, giving her less a chance of getting out. Hoping someone came by would be her best option.

The only person who came by was Yoongi the next day, who was elated to see leftovers still in the fridge. "Were you not hungry?" he asked, taking the food and immediately slurping up the noodles with the wooden chopsticks left out.

Jennie shrugged. "Not really. I slept all day," she half lied, as she did sleep for most of the day, but she was up for several hours looking for an escape. "Why are you down here if you don't have food with you?" She wasted no time beating around the bush; Yoongi was in the basement with her and he brought nothing to eat.

"God, am I not allowed to come down to my own basement?" Yoongi's eyes rolled at her stupid questions. If she had a problem with him coming down, then he would stop. Jennie would just have to starve to death. That option was at the bottom of his list, however. He walked over to the couch and sat on the opposite end of Jennie, putting a drug store bag in her lap.

Jennie looked down skeptically, peeking through to make sure nothing would explode.

Yoongi groaned. "Oh my God, it's not a bomb dumbass. I got you some hygiene products because I don't want to be around you if you're smelly." He pushed the bag towards her even though it was already in her lap. Inside held deodorant, shower supplies, a toothbrush, and feminine hygiene products. It wasn't much, but it was a start.

Jennie made a mental note to not use any of these products so she would be smelly. She wanted nothing to do with Yoongi and using her body as a repellent would have to work for now. She went to stand, but another bag was dropped in front of her.

Designer clothes.

Jennie didn't touch the bag. She had owned plenty of designer in her short lifetime, but her kidnapper gifting her with such? It wasn't real.

Yoongi groaned again. "Oh my God, open the freaking bag!" He took the clothes out for her, laying out sweatpants, several shirts, and a pair of jeans. He tucked undergarments at the bottom. Again, it wasn't much, but it was a start. "Take a shower and get changed. I'll bring you something to eat later. If you're even hungry..."

Yoongi stood from the couch, brushing himself off as usual. He went upstairs and Jennie couldn't help but imagine a carnival behind the door.
