She Stays

I spoke with her briefly as i walked by.

She called out to me with a smile.

Greeted me with a hello.

I nodded back wishing her a lovely day.

I didn't know her but i walked past her house each day.

Always in such a hurry.

I would scurry past with barley a glance.

I continued with my day.

Didn't give her another thought.

The next day i saw two people there.

Carrying boxes down the stairs.

I looked, but my neighbor was not around.

I returned later on my way home and found more people this time.

All walking to and fro.

It seemed as though they were emptying the house.

Curiosity got the best of me.

I stopped to ask was the dear old lady moving at last?

They stopped and looked at me a bit perplexed.

Why didn't your know?

The poor women passed away nearly a week ago.

I glanced towards the house quite unsure of what to say.

I told them surely that's impossible she told me hello just yesterday?

I hurried away fighting the uneasiness, keeping it at bay.

I looked back just for a moment.

There she was in her chair, on the porch where she would always stay.

She stood and waved.

Then she just simply began to fade.

The house now empty.

Shes been gone nearly a year.

But still sometimes as i pass by.

I softly hear the sound of her voice.

Have a lovely day my dear.

That empty chair still stays on the porch.

It rocks away on it own.

They say she passed on.

But she isn't really gone.

Forever she stays.
