Ch 1

eunomia-in-bloom

If there was a single word to describe the feelings Alaenys felt when the news came that she would be leaving Highgarden after years of being looked down upon and years of snide remarks for the tragedy that surrounded her birth, it was relief. She knew it would be better to be anywhere but home. Not much of her family cared about her which had lead to a mostly invisible existence, but those that did bother to acknowledge her existence merely called her 'Roslyn's Bástard'. The few things that she packed included a small travel kit for pressing and preserving flowers, which she hid amongst the gowns and accessories. She had taken the time to pin a handful of pressed yellow roses in her hair, which while a mess of red curls, was maintained with an extremely in depth routine. There was no bittersweet farewell or tears shed by any of her family as she left.

She had insisted on not going by sea, and instead making the journey by land. She has an appreciation for nature and would take the time when there was a stop for rest to gather some flowers to press. She spent much of the journey just spending the time watching the scenery go by. Absorbed entirely in her own thoughts as her carriage approached, she was shaken by the sounds of flying beasts overhead and the look on her face was one of awe, as if basking in the beauty of nature and all of her creatures.

She was absolutely unsure of what she was supposed to do with so much space once she arrived in her room, which was much larger than the one she had back in Highgarden. She instead took her time in organizing the things she had while also making note to make sure she completed all unfinished projects as she brought a couple gowns that she was working on that still needed their final touches. But instead she would find a spot inside to make herself comfortable in which she would begin pressing and preserving any flowers gathered on her way from Highgarden.
