I
"I accept your apology. I was sorry myself."
Yeji smiled brightly as we were talking under the trees. The gentle winds were playing through our hair, as the sun was brightly shining down our heads. However, the branches and leaves were protecting us from the sun and it's evil ministrations. I nodded and clapped softly and unknowingly, as she shook her head with a smile. I was also waiting for the others to come since we had to work on our project again. Yeji stood up and picked up her backpack, and stretched before saying, "I have to go to cheer practice. Let's chat later."
I nodded before waving at her as I saw her brother approaching us. They were talking happily, and Doyoung waved at me before they left together. My cheeks turned warm again, and I quickly hid them behind my palms. "So, someone has a crush on Doyoung hyung?"
I immediately turned around to see Jeno and Donghyuck approaching the tree area, as they both were laughing. Jeno sat close next to me, as I groaned in annoyance. "Leave me alone, he said hi earlier."
Donghyuck teased gently, "Well, that doesn't mean you don't have a crush."
I glared at him quickly before I heard another pair of footsteps approaching us. Jess had arrived and she sat right in front of me, making Jeno grunt to himself as he had to move elsewhere. She shrugged to herself before taking out her laptop. I also took out my notebook, and started to scribble some notes down as we further discussed what to study. But out of the blue, Jeno blurted out, "What if we caused some trouble? I think that's more fun."
All three heads turned to the prestigious class president, as he was looking up at the sky. I bumped my shoulder against Donghyuck's as he didn't know why Jeno was acting up as well. Jess seemed pretty interested in what he was saying and replied quietly, "Like what?"
"Detention club. We write about detentions, and use real-life experiences."
I snorted at his response and shot back, "You're basically asking the teachers to take away your president spot."
His head turned to face me, with that devilish smile of his and replied slowly, "They can't. Which is why I want to test it out."
"What the hell..."
"Trust me. We just need to prove that we are wanting detention for the purpose of this project. A club for detention. We can further investigate how detention is so helpful for discipline. We study the psychological aspects of it."
I was about to go against it as it was one of the craziest and stupidest ideas I've ever heard. But Jess closed her computer quickly and interjected, "That's something that no one in the school would come up with. I'm down."
"Same here."
Donghyuck hasn't spoken a word since Jeno had started talking, and immediately took his side when Jeno gave his own opinion. They were truly an odd pair. That leaves it down to 3:1, which I had no choice to oblige. But why the hell would Jeno want to get detention? What gives him the right to do so?
I watched as Jess was scrolling through her phone, and how Donghyuck would follow Jeno's moves as if he was tied to the other in a sense. Donghyuck seemed to have no say in what he does, even if he tries to be his own comedy self. Something was off about these two, and no one seemed to mind. But I came to the decision to dig a little deeper...maybe try to spark an actual conversation between the two.
As we were making our way towards the bus stop, Jess had gotten into her own car which it seemed to be her mother picking her up. She turned to wave at us for the first time, and smiled a gentle smile. I smiled back as she did, and the car sped down the street within a flash. Jeno cleared his throat and cut the silence, "Let's go get something to eat guys."
"Ew, I won't digest with you around me."
"Why do you have to be soooo optimistic Ryujin." Jeno sarcastically replied as he nudged Donghyuck's arm. I swore that Donghyuck was out of it, and how his face was already turning pale as if he was turning sick. He tried to agree with the other, but I interjected immediately, "I'm busy. I have no time with you losers."
I fixed my backpack before turning around, but Jeno grabbed my arm and pulled me back to where I was standing before. I flinched in response, and tried to tug away my arm with all my might, but he wouldn't even budge. "I'm serious Jeno. I have to go."
"You are so damn hard to start a conversation with."
He then pushed me to the floor, and I scraped my knee against the pavement. All you could hear is the car horns along the streets, as the afternoon has shifted slowly into the evening. I glared angrily up at him, but his gaze at me felt like he was treating me as a bug. I yelled back in anger, "What the hell?"
He bent down and pulled my face close to his, as I could feel his heartbeat rising in anger. His ears turned red in heat, and his expression got darker. "Stop fucking think that you're the queen. You entered into my territory, and you play by my rules. Understand that?"
He then kicked my backpack onto the curbs of the street, and walked away arrogantly. I groaned in annoyance, as I stood up limping. Donghyuck had his hand out for me, but I shoved it away. "You're such a two-face person Hwang Donghyuck. Why are you even friends with that bastard?"
Donghyuck didn't respond as he looked over at me once, walking over to my backpack and threw it onto the floor next to me. My eyebrows knitted together to express my disappointment, but he didn't seem to care either. He walked away afterwards, and coughed to himself as he did. But within my hand, he quietly slipped a bandage between my fingers, walking to where Jeno was after. They both disappeared down the street, and I looked down at my hand to see the uncovered bandage resting between my fingertips.
The bandage seemed to represent his disbelief of Jeno actually hurting me every time. And the bandage was something that made me realize how different Donghyuck was...and how he was not like Jeno...and how he was under the same spell as I was.
