((Y/N)'s POV)
After a tiring week, I'm looking forward to a relaxing Sunday. I woke up a bit late then I used to as I can actually see sunlight from the window. When I got downstairs, it was still quiet, with the queen and Aoi being the only ones who were already awake.
"(Y/N)-kun, you're awake. Sit down, dear. Breakfast is almost ready." Said the queen as she was frying some bacon.
"Um... is there anything I can help you with?" I then walked over to the kitchen table. "I can help you prepare the tableware."
"Don't worry, I'll take care of it." Said Aoi, but she's still busy cooking though.
"Please, it's the least I can do." With that, I took some plates and stuff and arranged the table.
"The table seems quite proper for a simple breakfast. You're good at this." The queen referred to the tidy table.
"Well, I've taken some part time jobs in fancy restaurants before. I guess some habits just stuck with me." The queen and Aoi chuckled at that.
After a while, the others went downstairs and ate breakfast with us. It was quite nice, although not very peaceful, with some of them bickering and messing around.
"So (Y/N)-kun, what are you up to today?" The king asked.
"Not much, your majesty. I'm actually thinking of taking a break." The king then chuckled.
"I guess that make sense. You had quite the long day yesterday. I was surprised to see Akane carrying you home. You looked like a mess." The others were just confused at that.
"You were with Akane?" Asked Aoi. "What were you two doing?"
"Well, while I was on my way back yesterday, I felt someone grabbing my shoulder. I looked around and saw Akane."
"Hmm... must've been horrifying." All of them except for Akane said in unison. I guess they've experienced the same thing too huh?
Akane, though, she just sat there looking embarrassed. I can't help but laugh.
"H-Hey! You're laughing at me again!" She protests.
"Sorry, Akane. I just suddenly remembered what happened. I can't help it." She then pouted as the others were looking at her, quite confused.
"But it was your fault. I said it because of what you said!" I can only chuckle at the embarrassed look on her face.
I then looked around to see the others staring at us, especially the king and queen. They seemed... intrigued.
"Eh? When did you two get so close?" The king jokingly asked.
"Yeah, the first time you two met, she was so shy that she ran straight away. What happened?" Asked Shuu.
"Well, she mistook me for you the other day. We talked for a bit, and I tricked her to speak normally in public. She's hated me since then." Akane responded with a 'hmph' as I said that.
"Wait, Akane-chan can speak in public?!" Hikari seemed so surprised. I guess that's justifiable after what I witnessed the other day.
"Well, it was more like she's yelling." To say that their jaws dropped would be an extreme understatement.
The king then stood up and immediately took my hand.
"(Y/N)-kun, I will put my trust in you. I will leave curing Akane's shyness to you." The king humbly said. It was as if he's desperate.
"Um... I don't think I'm qualified for that, your majesty."
"Nonsense! I've seen the results and I'm quite satisfied. I'll leave this matter to you. In fact, if anyone has troubles, wether it's about the election or not, (Y/N)-kun can help."
What's with this king? Doesn't this mean more work for me?
"What, so he's our psychiatrist now? I don't need him to tell me what to do. I can manage myself." Said Kanade, who then stood up.
"Um, Kanade, you have a speech planned today, don't you?" The queen said with a mysterious smile.
"Yeah, I'm heading out soon."
"Then take (Y/N)-kun with you." I almost spilt my drink as I heard that.
"Huh?! Why should I?" She interjected.
"Because you don't seem to trust him. Just give him a chance." Kanade could only sigh in defeat. I guess the queen's orders are absolute.
"Fine. If you don't hurry, I'll leave you behind." She then walked away.
Ugh, I guess it means that I have to say goodbye to my day off...
Timeskip a while...
Okay, so now I'm supposed to follow Kanade around for her speech. As I went outside, I was immediately met with an irritated Kanade, who just stood there with her arms crossed.
"Come on, we don't have all day to wait for you."
God, she's annoying. But still, I have to do my job.
"Here, at least you can help me carry my bag. I have important documents inside, so be careful." She then handed me a bag that she could've easily carry herself.
I can only force a smile...
"Your words are my command, Kanade-sama." I reluctantly said as she just hmphed. (Is that a word?)
With that she just walks away as I followed.
"So, where are we going?"
"You just follow me." She simply responded.
"So, what will you be talking about?"
"You like asking questions, don't you?" She answered, clearly annoyed.
Well, if I'm going to do this because of this, then I'll at least be annoying all the way.
"Questions lead to answers, which will present solutions. In other words, yes."
"Please stop talking to me."
She's not even looking at me anymore.
"If I'm not mistaken, you don't seem to like me very much."
No response. She's adapted quickly. Ignoring is sometimes a better option.
"So, how is your campaign going, any progress?"
Yup, no comment from her. But then a woman passed by.
"Kanade-sama, Shuu-sama, good morning." She then waved at us with a smile.
"Ah, likewise. Have a good day, Ma'am."
Kanade... smiled? She answered that woman with a soft tone and a warm smile. Is she even capable of such things?
I just stared at her, shocked, to say the least.
"What?"
"You're good." She's confused by what I said.
"Huh?"
"Why can't you smile like that more often?" I was answered with a hmph as she continued to walk along.
"I have to keep a good image in front of the people, duh."
"Wow, must be hard, having to keep up a smile like that. I didn't even think that it was possible for you to be compassionate." That statement seemed to have offended her as her eyes twitched a little.
"Is that an insult, I hear?"
Oh god, what a terrifying image. If the people sees this side of Kanade, they might think that she's a tyrant, although she's kind of one... in a way.
"Um... what I was trying to say is... you look way better with a smile, Kanade-sama." I then laughed nervously as she could only sigh.
"I have to keep up this image so that I can the polls in my favor. The people wants a perfect king, then that should be me."
Even after all I said about her, I will admit that she seemed serious about what she said.
"I have to say, you seem quite determined compared to your siblings in this election."
"Just like what you said, we all have our own goals in mind. You of all people should understand my situation."
Oh yeah, I remember her saying something about a personal reason to be king.
"And what goal is that?" That is payback for asking me the same question back then.
"Which part of personal don't you understand?"
"You. I'm trying to understand you." She doesn't seem to expect that kind of answer.
"You're wasting your time. Just focus on the others. I have to win this on my own. If not, then what's the point?"
I have to say, I didn't expect such an answer too. She's a bit confusing, but interesting nonetheless.
"What's with the look on your face?" She probably noticed me staring at her.
"Nothing, what you said just had me intrigued." She appears to grow suspicious.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Among your siblings, you're the only one with a personal reason to be king. You seem to be the most determined, yet when I offer help to maximize your chances, you refused."
"So what, I told you I don't need your help. That's all there is to it. You don't have to think so hard about it." She arrogantly said.
"Yup, at first you just seem like an arrogant princess. But if winning is that important to you, you'd probably use me."
"You say that like I'm a bad person."
"Exactly. You're not a bad person." She was surprised by my remark. "It's almost as if you're not doing this for yourself. For someone else, but who? You're doing all the work yourself. What, as a punishment? Redemption, is it because of guilt?"
I was expecting her to be shocked, but no, she just smiled and laughed a bit.
"You know what, I take back what I said back at the dinner table. You really are a psychiatrist, aren't you?"
"I'm one when I'm paid to be one." She chuckled at that.
"Fine, then I'll pay you to be my secretary." She proudly declared while waving some cash around.
"Eh, what?"
"I don't want you helping me, but I don't mind you working for me."
Hmm... what is this sudden turn of event? Should I just say yes and be done with it?
"Um, I guess that's fine. I look forward to our campaign together, Kanade-sama."
"And don't call me Kanade-sama." She then walked over to me.
"Ah, then I'll call you Kana-" I was stopped when she gripped my shoulder.
"Huh, you think you can call me by my first name? That's cute." Eh? What's with this sudden change of character?
"From now on, you'll be addressing me as Madam. You're my employee now, so you're basically my slave." Her words were followed by a sadistic giggle.
Eh?! Did she just reveal her true self? Such an evil look on her face...
"Um, isn't this a bit much?"
I blinked for a second but then a horrifying sound. I looked to my right to see a whip hitting a pole next to me.
Eh?! Why is Kanade-sama holding a whip?
"E-Eh?! What are you-" I was stopped when she held the whip to my chin.
"Is that a way to address your superior?"
"U-Um, apologies, Madam!!" She then let me go before walking away like nothing happened.
"Come on, we have work to do."
Oh god, what have I gotten myself into?
Did I just made a deal with the devil?
