What happened to this place?

Laiba and Dorothy were sleeping soundly, until the sound of clucking woke them up.

"The fck is that?" Laiba whispered, so Dorothy couldn't hear.

Dorothy yawned.

"What's that?" Dorothy asked.

"I was tryin' to lay my egg, that's all." A voice said.

Laiba shot up and looked around.

"Ay! Who's there?!" He said.

"Billina?" Dorothy asked, causing Laiba to look down.

"Who now? Didn't you have Toto with you last time?" He asked.

"Who else?" Billina asked.

"What're you doing here? Have you been here all night too?" Dorothy asked.

Billina sneezed and shivered.

"I've never been so wet in my whole life." She said.

Dorothy caressed her head, causing Laiba to smile.

"Oh, who's this?" Billina asked.

"Oh! This is Laiba, my big brother!" Dorothy said, taking Laiba's hand.

"Adoptive...big brother. Nice to meet you, Billina." Laiba said.

"Mm, nice to meet you to, dear." Billina said.

"How big is this pond anyway?" She asked.

'What pond?' Laiba thought, before looking around, seeing sand and rocks.

"She's right. It's a pond." He said, standing up.

"Where did all the rest of the water go?" Dorothy asked, holding Laiba's hand.

"Where did Kansas go?" Billina asked.

Dorothy and Laiba looked around, seeing rocks, sand and grass.

Billina flew on top of the crate.

"This is some place for a chicken coop." Billina said, causing Laiba to snicker.

As Dorothy and Billina talked, Laiba felt something was off.

'The alarm wouldn't ring unless something was really wrong. There's something else here...I can feel it.' He thought.

"No, Billina!" Dorothy said, catching Billina.

Laiba was shook out of his thoughts and looked at the two.

"If this is the land of Oz, then this is the deadly desert." She said.

"Deadly Desert?" Billina asked, fearfully.

"Yep. If I remember correctly...anything living that touches it, turns to sand, right?" Laiba asked.

Dorothy smiled and nodded.

"It surrounds Oz. Last time we flew over it in the old house." Dorothy said, getting out the crate and getting on a rock.

"Just my luck." Billina groaned, as Dorothy picked her up.

Laiba followed her, standing on a rock.

"If we stay on the stones, we'll be fine." Laiba said.

Billina clucked nervously, as the two made it over the rocks and onto the grass.

Laiba felt like something was watching them.

He turned and jumped.

A rock with an eye was staring at them, but when it noticed it was caught, the eye vanished.

'Oh hell no.' Laiba thought.

"Dorothy, we need to go." He said, taking Dorothy's hand.

"What happened?" Billina asked.

"You don't wanna know." He said, as they walked on.

"Let's find something to eat for breakfast." He said, trying to brighten the mood.

"It's about time." Billina said, causing Laiba to laugh a bit.

"Then we can go to the Emerald City and see our friend the Scarecrow." Dorothy said.

"Okay." Laiba said.

"Scarecrow?" Billina asked.

"He's the King of Oz, Billina." Laiba said.

Later

They made it to a tree, holding pails.

"That's not odd at all." Laiba said.

"It's a lunch pail tree." Dorothy said.

"What happened to breakfast?" Billina asked.

"Now I know we're in Oz." Dorothy said, putting Billina down.

Laiba looked around for any good ones to grab.

He saw a few red ones and grabbed 4.

Two for him and two for Dorothy.

"Here kid." He said, handing them to her.

"Oh, thanks Laiba." She said.

He smiled and nodded.

"Wanna share lunch Billina?" She asked.

"Just a minute. Nice couple of worms here." Billina said, pecking the ground.

"Wonder what's inside." Dorothy asked, as she pulled the top off the pail.

Laiba did the same.

Dorothy reached in and pulled out a ham sandwich.

Laiba reached in and pulled a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich.

Laiba looked behind him and froze.

The rock had a face and was staring at them again.

His eyes changed as he growled at it.

It seemed to get frightened before vanished.

'I hate that damn thing. It's gonna be a pain in the arse isn't it?' He thought, as he ate.

Elsewhere

A face appeared on the stone wall and began to talk.

"Your majesty, they have returned to Oz."

"Good. Keep an eye on them."

The face looked down for a second, as if wanting to say something.

"What's the matter? What is it?"

"They have a...chicken with them."

"A CHICKEN??!!"

With Laiba, Dorothy and Billina

They walked in the forest, looking around.

"Where are all your friends? Where is everybody?" Billina asked.

"I don't know, Billina. Oz is pretty big." Dorothy said.

Laiba was looking around, concerned.

"I don't know about this, Dorothy. Something feels off. Wait here, I'll be right back." Laiba said, before dashing off.

"W-What is blazes?!" Billina asked.

"Laiba has powers of some kind. It makes him very strong." Dorothy said.

When Dorothy and Laiba met back in the past, he told her about his powers and what he does for others.

A few minutes later...

Laiba came back, with a troubled look.

"Dorothy...something's wrong. Come on." He said, taking Dorothy's hand and running.

Billina clucked and ran after them.

"Laiba! Dorothy! Wait for me!" She said.

"Wait...this is the yellow brick road!" Dorothy said, as she saw the crumbled road.

"I know...but that's not the only issue." Laiba said.

"Oh no. What's happened?" She asked, as they kept running, not knowing a rock was watching them.

Elsewhere

"Your majesty, they have discovered the yellow brick road and are on their way to the Emerald City."

"Good. They won't get passed Mombi."

Back with the trio

They kept running, until they made it out the forest.

They stopped, Dorothy and Laiba looked ahead, seeing something bad.

"Is that...?" Dorothy asked, gripping Laiba's hand.

He nodded.

Billina caught up with them, Dorothy picked her up.

She wiped her tears on Billina's feathers

"Well, Billina, that was the Emerald City." Dorothy said.

"Yep...it was." Laiba said, voice cracking slightly.
