chapter thirty-eight
"alright, why couldn't we find you anywhere in hogsmeade yesterday, draco? we know you went." blaise zabini gave his friend a hard stare. draco was distracted, though, as he was too busy staring down at his phone. he'd sent potter a good morning text, but the green-eyed boy hadn't responded. he was slightly offended.
"i was avoiding you." the blond claimed eventually, setting down his phone face-down.
"why?" blaise continued, sitting across from his friend with a vexed look on his face.
"because you're boring, and i had someone more fun to spend time with." the grey-eyed boy snapped, meeting blaise's brown eyes dangerously. draco's phone was equidistant from the two of them on the table, and the blond noticed the dark-haired boy eyeing it quickly.
"it's the app, isn't it? you've finally matched with someone you're interested in. is she who you snuck off with that other day too?" blaise asked, and harry's words echoed in draco's head:
'thank merlin for heterosexuality being the norm.' he grimaced.
"something like that." the blond decided, staring at his nails disinterestedly.
"was it daphne's sister again? astoria, or whatever? it was, wasn't it?" the dark-skinned boy asked.
"it was not astoria greengrass, and it will never be astoria greengrass." draco claimed.
"then who was it?"
"that's none of your business."
"malfoy, i'm your best mate. i should know who my best mate's spending his free time with. you, her, me, and pansy can all go on dates and stuff."
"we'd never go on a date with you and pansy." the blond rolled his eyes. his phone vibrated mockingly on the table, and both the boys stared at it for a moment. just as draco went to grab it, blaise snatched it away and sprinted from the leather sofa of the common room, towards his dorm. draco was hot on his heels.
the dark-skinned boy unlocked the phone, as he knew draco's password, and opened the app at lightning speed. draco tried to grab his phone, but zabini kept holding it just out of his reach. he shoved draco backwards, and the blond stumbled as his best mate stood in the doorway of his dorm room.
"merlin's beard, draco... you're talking to potter?" blaise asked, eyes widening, and draco's stormy eyes brewed.
"you didn't need to know that, you insufferable twat! that's my business." the blond snapped, snatching his phone from his friend.
"i didn't even know you were a pouf. theo said he matched with you on seekr, but i figured it must've been some kind of bug or something. now that i know you're-"
"you've matched with potter too, blaise, so don't you dare start with me about how the app couldn't possibly match two men together unless they were gay, because the app focuses on compatibility, not bloody gender." draco was enraged at his friend for going through his phone. it wasn't any of his business.
"and you think you and potter are compatible? draco, you're bloody oil and water. you'd never work. unless you're just looking for someone to bed, which by the looks of those messages, i'd say that's the case..."
"i could strangle you right now, zabini. stay the fuck off my phone, and if you dare tell anyone, i'll ruin you." the blond threatened, and the dark-haired boy eyed him carefully before backing into his room and closing the door. the blond stood seething in the hallway, and then went across to his own dorm, slamming the door behind him.
he changed the password on his phone and deleted the app. he couldn't talk to potter until this blew over... he just couldn't.
