Rumors, Secrets, and Lies
(For those of you who don't know what Jayden looks like, there's a picture. That's him. Story time!)
Jayden's POV:
"And that concluded our presentation on human cells," I finished saying.
"Interesting... But the presentation was supposed to be on Pi," (Math teachers name) said.
We both sat back down and sighed, embarrassment written all over our faces.
(Y/N) looked around the classroom.
"Hey, Jayden, have you seen (C/N)? He told me he wouldn't want to be absent when we presented."
"Nope. Why are you asking?" I questioned.
"Can you keep secrets?" She whispered. She played with her fingers. I know her well enough to know that's a nervous habit of hers.
"Of course I can."
"Well, you see...I kinda have a crush on him."
The guy I ran over on Saturday, he was the same guy (Y/N) likes.
The same guy that Abby is dating.
If any of them finds out, I am in deep trouble.
(Y/N)'s POV:
While I was waiting for Jayden's response, I started listening to two girl's conversation because it was better than listening to peoples' boring presentations. This and because Jayden takes forever to respond.
"Did you hear the rumors?" One of the girls said. I could tell she was trying to be quiet, but was failing badly.
"The ones about (C/N)? Yes I have! I heard he's at the hospital... I wonder why..." The other said.
Once she mentioned (C/N), I did my best to pay more attention to the conversation without drawing too much attention to myself.
"I heard he got ran over by a car!" One of the girls announced.
Both of the girls gasped, and I did too.
I think Jayden was listening too because I heard him gasp as well.
When I looked at him, he was pale, well, paler than usual.
If Abby hears this rumor, she'll freak out and demand answers.
"Those presentations were very lovely...very lovely indeed," (Math Teacher's Name) said sarcastically.
"Teacher!" Abby yelled from where she was sitting.
"What is it?" The math teacher eyed Abby.
"Are the rumors true? The ones about (C/N) getting ran over?"
Her voice was shaky and it sounded like if she were about to cry.
"Yes, I believe they are," The math teacher said while pulling out a picture from a cabinet. "Here's a picture the police took during the crime scene."
Jayden started laughing and the whole class looked at him, even me.
"That picture is a picture of a shadow! It's a fake picture!" He snickered.
Confused and slightly frightened, the teacher slowly put the picture back in the cabinet while Jayden continued laughing.
"Please see me after class," the teacher told Jayden.
This statement caused Jayden to stop laughing. Like magic, his smile vanished from his face, in replace was an obedient looking expression.
"Why did you do that?!" I whisper shouted to Jayden.
"It's funny how people believe everything they see online," He confessed.
Regularly, Jayden would demand the teacher give him the picture and he would figure out who the shadow belonged to even if it took him his whole life.
But this time, he didn't do that.
He just laughed, laughed like it were a joke. Like one of his classmates was definitely not in the hospital because of a serious accident.
So I decided to act how the normal Jayden would act in this situation.
"Can I see the picture?"
When I said that, Jayden's black eyes widened in what I assumed was fear.
When the teacher handed me the picture, I studied it for a good while.
It was a simple photo really.
The car was upside down so I couldn't tell what kind of car or color it was.
The photo was taken with flash.
(C/N)'s leg was seen in the corner of the picture.
And a shadow was visible by the upside down car.
Jayden snatched it from my hands.
I expected him to rip it or burn it but he just whispered, "thank god" then returned the photo to me.
"You were right, this is fake," I mumbled as I put the picture in my back pocket.
I heard Jayden sigh in relief.
After school...
Jayden stayed after school to work on something I think.
I heard my name being called.
I followed the voice and ended up facing my mother.
"Do you have any idea of how many days you haven't been home!?" She sounded angrier than ever.
I don't think she cared about the people who were staring at her.
"Like four or five," I told her.
"You are grounded! No leaving the house for a month!"
"Mom no I-"
"2 months!"
"Can you let me ta-"
"5 months!"
"Stop it!"
"8 months! It's official! Now get in the car!"
I was quiet the whole ride home, I didn't dare say another word. 8 months locked up in my room was more than enough. I couldn't possibly be given an extra month for saying a word.
At the house at 11:15 p.m...
"Go to your room and get some sleep! I'll deal with you in the morning!"
I obeyed.
Jayden's POV:
I had to stay after school just to work on a package with 300 math problems. All because I laughed at a picture of a shadow. To be honest, that was a complete waste of my time. I knew how to do every problem in that package even without a calculator. I then realized that (Y/N) hasn't come to my house. She finally decided to go home. I sat down on my couch and turned on my laptop.
Just as I did that, I heard a knock on my door.
'Probably (Y/N)' I thought to myself.
"Coming coming," I said while walking to the door.
I opened the door.
Standing by the door was a guy.
He wore a white hoodie and skinny jeans. He had jet black hair, a carved smile on his abnormally white face, and what shocked me the most was that he had no eyelids.
"Jeff the killer?" I asked him.
"Yes," he simply said.
"I thought you were just a legend!" I yelled out.
"I'm real, alright, Jayden." Jeff said while letting himself inside.
"How do you know my name?!"
I was terrified. A serial killer who turns out to be real knows my name!
Jeff turned on the television and clicked on the news channel.
"Look at that, you're famous!" Jeff pointed at the television screen.
The screen showed the scene when I ran over (C/N).
I tried to act dumb.
"That's not me..."
"It's clearly you. You know it is."
"But it's a shadow!"
"That's why! It's you... Stop pretending you don't know what I'm talking about."
I sighed and changed the subject.
"Why are you even here?"
"I checked the window where (Y/N) is always at. She wasn't there. So I decided to talk to you before you leave," Jeff said without looking at me.
"I have a message for (Y/N)... Tell her that if she won't come with me, I will kill her."
"She's never going no where! I'll tell her whatever you want, just, don't kill her. Please?"
Jeff stood by the door and laughed.
That was all.
He then left the house.
I shrugged and continued using my laptop.
The door opened once again.
"One last thing. Can you tell me where (Y/N) lives?" Jeff said quickly.
Though it was stupid, I sighed, and opened my mouth, knowing I would regret it later.
"Alright," I replied.
(Y/N)'s POV:
I couldn't get any sleep!
It has been two days since I last seen Jeff.
I can't sleep without hearing his laugh and seeing his creepy smile.
Addicted, if that's what you call it.
I'm addicted to Jeff.
But he's a killer.
Why do I keep thinking about him? I hate him. Even though I've been with him for a short time, he's already proven himself untrustworthy and pretty much an enemy to me.
"I miss you already, Jeff," I said to myself.
"I miss you already, Jeff, the girl with the (H/C) hair said," Jeff mocked me.
I turned my head towards my window, only to see Jeff standing up by my bed.
His hair was blowing by the breeze of the wind from outside the open window.
Once my eyes gazed on him, I clenched my fists.
"Jeff!" I shouted at him.
To be honest, I felt like giving him a hug for some odd reason.
Half of me is really happy to see him again but, the other halve is ready to punch his face.
"(Y/N)...I need you to come with me," Jeff said.
"I can't trust you," I said as I tried to fall asleep.
It was quiet for the next thirty seconds until Jeff broke the silence.
"Trust fall. Let's do trust fall right now. I bet this will prove myself trustworthy."
I rolled myself out of my bed and stood up, my back facing Jeff.
I started falling backwards then Jeff's phone rang.
"Hold up I got a call," Jeff said as I was practically plummeting to my death.
"What!"
I tried standing up on my feet but I lost my balance which caused me to plummet backwards quicker.
Just as I was about to hit the floor, I felt Jeff's hand on my back, causing me to stop falling.
He had his phone in his left hand, and his right hand on my back.
He used his right hand to push me back up to my feet.
Then, he continued talking to whoever called him on his phone.
He ended his phone call then looked at me.
"You trust me now?" Jeff said while sitting down on my bed.
"How did you do that!!??" I asked him with complete shock.
"Reflexes," he said without giving too much care.
"Jeff," I told him while he took pictures of my room, "I want to go with you."
"You made an excellent choice," He told me. The tone of his voice creeped me out, but sometimes in life you have to take risks.
