A few hours later I opened my eyes and lightly tightened my grip around Luna's waist. I snuggled down under the blanket in the cold room, and just laid there with my eyes open. I didn't want to wake her. I wanted to just stay like this for a while, but eventually she started moving and woke up.
"Oh sorry, I didn't mean to make you move." She said snuggling up to me under the blanket.
"No, it's ok. I should probably go anyway." I said as I started to sit up. She quickly grabbed my shoulder and gently pulled me back towards her. "What?" I asked softly looking at her as I laid back down.
"I'm not ready for you to leave yet, that's all." She whispered. Her roommate's bed was still empty and it was still really cold from the snow falling outside, so I pulled the fluffy blanket back up over us and wrapped my arms around her pulling her towards me. She laid her head down on my chest this time and snuggled into me. To be honest, there was no other place in the world I'd rather be then right here with her. The sun hadn't come up yet, for all I knew it was three am.
She didn't go running when I told her about what happened, instead she held on tighter and made me feel ok with what happened for the first time. I was thankful for that. Now here I was, she knew my deepest darkest secret. She knew what had made me so mean and rude to most people. She knew everything now, and she didn't run away. I think I was still in shock, so much so that I didn't even hear her talking to me until she lifted her head.
"Chan?" She asked again.
"Huh?" I asked tearing myself out of my thoughts.
"Are you ok?" She looked worried. I smiled down at her and nodded my head.
"I am now, go back to sleep" I whispered kissing the top of her head as she laid back down pulled the blanket up under her chin and fell back asleep.
All I had to do now was find out why she couldn't see all the colors that I did. I had to find a way to get my mom to let me into my dad's old office. Since he'd been a soulmate researcher at another university, he had books the general public did not. The hard part was going to be getting past my mom. She still resented and hated me for what happened with my dad, and I didn't see her giving that up any time soon.
The next morning the sun was streaming in the window that was between the two beds. Luna was still wrapped up in blankets and cuddled up next to me. I carefully shifted onto my side as to not to wake her up. I gently brushed the hair back off of her face and watched her sleep. Her full eye lashes almost brushed her cheeks and her heart shaped lips were just barely parted open. I had to admit I got lucky, she was beautiful. Not everyone gets a soulmate as pretty as her.
After a moment she opened her eyes and I kissed her forehead. "Morning" I said quietly.
"Mmm, Morning" She whispered back. "I could get used to this, you know. Waking up to you." She smiled.
"Yeah?" I asked, "Me too." I finished laughing.
"Then why'd you try to leave last night?" She asked sitting up a little and resting her head on her hand.
"I don't know. I didn't want Bora coming home and all that I guess." I really wasn't sure. "My fight or flight response is usually stuck in the on position in relationships. This is all new to me"
"She went out with Seungmin last night, she won't be home for another few hours. Besides, Bora's been rooting for you this whole time, Chan."
"She HAS?" I asked shocked, "But I was being such a jerk!"
"She's empathic like that. She could tell you were playing hard to get."
"HAHA!" I laughed, is that what Bora thought of me? That definitely wasn't it...well? Maybe it was? "Ok, I gotta go. Jisung and Bin don't react well when I'm out all night."
"Oh fine." She conceded. Saying goodbye to her was getting harder already.
I put a finger under her chin and lifted her head to look at me. Her eyes met mine and I kissed her goodbye.
"I'll definitely see you later, Lu" I said pulling away from her. She pulled me back in one last time.
"Ok." She whispered. As I got out of bed and put my jacket back on, she snuggled back up under her blanket and almost instantly fell back asleep. I kissed her temple before opening the door and leaving quietly, smiling to myself as I went down the stairs and left her dorm.

After finally getting up and taking a shower, making oatmeal in my room, and cracking open a book to read Bora finally came home.
"Aren't you coming home late." I joked with her.
"Oh please. Like you didn't have Chan here all night" She laughed, but quickly stopped when I didn't look up from my book and noticed the smirk on my face. "DID YOU HAVE HIM HERE ALL NIGHT?" She yelled loudly.
"Ow. My ears." I said dropping the book and covering my ears.
"Did you? Was he good?" She asked excitedly.
"Yes, and it wasn't like that. He had something to tell me and it really upset him, and we just talked through it. By the time we were done, it was too late for him to walk home."
"Have you figured out why you're still only seeing red?"
"No, but his dad apparently has some books that might help, but Chan's mom won't let him in the house to see them. It's a long story." I waved a hand towards her as I pretended to be really interested in my book.
"Storm the place and take 'em!" She joked.
"Might be a little more complicated then that, but we'll figure it out."

Later that day, I was going to make one last ditch effort to get into my dad's study. Pulling up outside of my parent's home was never easy for me. The same two story dark blue home with white windows and doors, and black shingle roof. I got out of my car and took a deep breath as I walked up to the front door. I could see my mom's car in the driveway and shook my head trying to clear it.
Ringing the doorbell caused my heart to pound almost out of my chest. I could hear movement inside and my mom opened the door already looking upset with me.
"Didn't I tell you last time not to come back?" She said annoyed.
"I know, just please hear me out. I need a book from dad's study--" I started.
"No. You're not touching anything of his!" She said, beginning to get upset.
"Mom. Please. I need to know something in that book. It's just one. Please." I begged, because at this point I wasn't above begging.
"I've told you no a million times Christopher. How are you not getting the message?" She slurred slightly. I was going to have to tell her. I didn't want to, but here goes nothing.
"I found my soulmate, mom" I said softly, wanting her to understand how important this was.
"You what?" She stopped dead, her eyes wide. "You found what?"
"I found her...." I said my body going limp as I was starting to give up.
"Criminals don't get soulmates, Christopher." She spat out at me.
"I'm not a criminal!" I said loudly, I was trying not to yell, but her insistence on the matter was starting to get to me.
"You're wearing yellow, mom. The house is blue, your shoes are red. I can see colors."
She stood there softened for a moment, I could see the gears turning in her head while she thought about how her murderer of a son could possible have been matched with a soulmate.
"I don't understand." She said not taking her eyes off of me. "You shot your father in cold blood."
"I DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE!" I yelled for probably the thousandth time since it happened.
"Ok ok, just wait here." She softly closed the door. Through the window I could see her pacing in the living room while holding her dog Melon. Melon was a small white Lhasa Apso she'd gotten shortly after my dad's untimely passing. Promptly after kicking me out of the house.
"Ok, I made up my mind" She said as she came to the door again.
"And?" I asked her hoping she'd let me just grab the one book I needed.
"Bring her for dinner Friday night around 7pm. Then you can have your ONE book." She said while still holding Melon.
"Why?" I asked confused.
"Because I want to meet the girl that will someday marry my son despite what he's done." She said closing the door in my face so hard it blew my hair back off of my forehead. Despite how I knew this was going to be a horribly uncomfortable situation, I was going to get the book. Now I just had to explain it to Luna.

"Ok, I need a favor." Chan said as he paced through his room. I sat in the middle of his bed cross-legged watching him.
"OOOOk" I mumbled back confused.
"So, my dad was a soulmate researcher for one of the universities here in Korea. He has this huge office full of books relating to his research. There's a book in there that I need. It might help explain why you can only see red."
"Uh-huh" I replied still a little confused.
"I've been desperately trying to weeks now to get that book from my mom. The thing is, she's not fond of me, not since what happened. So, I went yesterday and spoke to her again. I told her that I'd found you and that I needed the book. She agreed on one condition, that we go for dinner tomorrow night. She wants to meet you." He blurted the last part out while he continued to pace. "It's just I know we haven't been together that long, and I know this is kind of last minute, but --"
In the middle of his pacing and mumbling I got off his bed and stood in front of him, "Breathe" I joked putting my hands on his arms.
"Sorry, I just...I know she's going to turn this into something bad, and I just want you to be prepared. I'm really nervous about what she's planning to do. Just don't take anything she says seriously, ok? Just let it all roll off of your back. I promise, she's just trying to scare you off. It's just one night, ok?" He said letting out a big breath he'd probably been holding for a while.
"Channie, it's ok. Let's do it." I said looking at him and wrapping his arms around my waist to reassure him it's going to be fine. "Let's get that book, ok?"

7pm. Friday. We stood outside my parents home and Luna smoothed out her skirt for the third time.
"Just don't tell her you only see red. Ok? She'll jump on that like a hungry lioness on the hunt." I whispered to her rolling my eyes.
"Got it." She whispered back. She did look pretty in the red dress she had on. Guess red must be her lucky color now, if people had those.
"Christopher." My mother said as she finally opened the door and promptly walking away Melon following along with her.
"Mom" Chan said back as he rolled his eyes and grabbed my hand pulling me inside with him. In the living room my mom sat down on the couch and eyed Luna from head to toe and back again. Luna patiently stood there allowing my mom to make her feel like she was under a microscope.
"So you're my son's soulmate." She mumbled finally.
"That's me." Luna said taking a seat on the couch next to me.
"Hmph" she huffed eyeing Luna again.
"I'm sure my son hasn't told you much about himself, he doesn't usually play well with others." My mom drawled with a glass of champagne in one hand and Melon in her lap.
"Uh, actually he has told me quite a bit" Luna responded, politely putting her hands in her lap.
"Ha, I doubt that, Yuna was it?" She said waving Luna off. "I bet he hasn't told you what a criminal he is, have you Christopher?"
"Luna." I corrected my mother. She was already starting to piss me off, but that's what she wanted. She wanted me to get all upset just so she could deny me the book and that wasn't going to happen. Not tonight.
"He has, but he's not a criminal. He was in a terrible situation. He had no other decision to make." Luna said confidently not even flinching. I smiled to myself quietly as she stuck up for me against my dragon of a mother.
"Mom. Enough with the third degree." I said trying to get my mom to take her fangs out of my girlfriend.
"It's ok, Chan. I don't mind." I held my hands up and leaned back against the couch in surrender.
"Dinner's ready" My mom butted in as the butler let her know. We all went out to the dining room and sat down around the table, as food was brought out to us.
"So, Luna. You're seeing color as well? Or is my son just a basket case?" She asked waving her fork rudely in my direction.
"I am." Luna replied confidently.
"Hmm. What color is that?" She pointed to the salt and pepper shakers on the center of the table which thankfully were red.
"Red." She replied coolly while taking a bite of her food. That seemed to satisfy my mom for the moment as she did start to realize that maybe I wasn't as bad as she'd been making me out to be for the last few years.
"I just don't understand." My mom muttered. "You killed someone, you don't deserve such a thing as sacred as a soulmate, Christopher. You don't"
"But that's not your choice." Luna spoke up defending me. "The universe makes that choice. He didn't kill him for fun"
My mom looked at her in shock, still not seeming to understand that I'd told Luna the entire story. "He--He told you? Ev-Everything?"
"He did" Luna once again replied calmly taking another bite of food. I was enjoying this. My mother constantly trying to scare off Luna, and Luna standing her ground.
"I told you mom, she knows all of it. Stop trying to scare her off." I said as my mother put her silverware down and cleared her throat. I could tell she was surprised that I wasn't making this up.
"So tell me why you need this book so badly if everything is going the way it should." My mother asked.
I stopped chewing what was in my mouth and swallowed too soon, almost choking on it as it went down. I looked over at Luna panicked and could feel the book slipping out of my grasp. Luckily, Luna swooped in and saved the day.
"We're taking a genetics in soulmates class. We've got a final project and really want to do well. So we were hoping we could just borrow the book and return it when we're done with the project." She slipped in.
"Mmm" My mother wiped at her mouth with a white linen napking. "Well, as you know your father would have wanted you to follow in his footsteps. I suppose I should honor that." She concluded. "Go get the book, Christopher. JUST the one book you need and it better be back here in one month."
"Thank you, mom." I said bowing and excusing myself from the table and moving to my dad's office.
The dark green walls and dark cherry bookcases looked so much different in color. The old brown books lined every single case. His dark walnut desk still sat in the middle of the room with the wide round window behind it. Piles and Piles of papers still sat on top of his desk as if he was going to come home at any moment and kick me out. His desk chair was still facing the window as if he'd been awake thinking about something before he came to get me. I knew I was only allowed in here for the book, but the room still smelled like his cologne. I tried holding back everything that was rushing forward in my brain, but I dropped to my knees in the middle of the room. Tears falling down my cheeks and I choked on my own sobs. It all looked as if he'd just been here five minutes ago.
"I'm so sorry, dad" I cried "I'm so so sorry."
"This is why I never let you in here, Christopher. I didn't want you to feel this way." I heard my mom say from behind me. I felt Luna help me up off the floor as I wrapped my arms around her and put my face on her shoulder.
"It's ok, Channie" She whispered holding me up. "Let's get the book and get outta here ok?" I sniffed loudly and walked over to the exact bookshelf where the book was like I'd just been here yesterday. I grabbed the old tome off the shelf and tucked it under my arm, taking one last look at the office before my mom came up behind me and put a hand on my shoulder.
"Time to go, honey" My mom said quietly in my ear, for once not calling me by my real name.
