chapter 8
Here you are again, finding yourself in Alya's welcomed arms. Your sullen eyes were focused on the ground as the both of you were sitting on her couch.
"I just don't get it," you said after a couple of minutes. She did not answer. She let you vent, it's for your own good anyways. "These feelings... I feel like I would just want to forget these emotions."
Alya sighed. "Isn't it hard to hide it?"
"It hurts a bit, 'cause--" you paused as her arms tightened around you. "That time with Marinette... he was so broken but then he doesn't know that someone likes him for who he really was?" It started as a ramble, but near the end it turned into a question.
You heard her breathe. "Shit," she whispered.
You closed your eyes and groaned. You untangled yourself away from Alya and proceeded to place your head in your hands. "I'm sorry. I'm so pathetic and cheesy." You let out a humorless chuckle.
Alya gave you a sad smile. She placed a hand on your shoulder. "Y/N, it's okay. Really."
You stayed silent. You're really losing your mind over this boy. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP.
"I have no one else to talk to, to be honest. I actually want to cry." A wet chuckle went past your lips. "It hurts... that I'm just here, because I know that he will never be mine. I would see him hanging out with other girls, then I would just feel insecure, looking myself in a mirror, realizing that I don't stand a chance-- I will never stand a chance-"
Cutting your sentence off was when you could feel your body stiffen, looking behind you as Alya embraced your whole torso. She whined your name. "Y/N, I love you, but you're so dumb, ugh."
"Gee, thanks."
"No, I didn't mean it like that. What I meant to say is that, you shouldn't feel so insecure."
You pried her hands off of you. "Okay, let's just change the topic." Alya, thankfully, agreed and began to talk about her newly-created blog for clothing and fashion. You listened, trying to forget about your feelings.

Months have passed. Soon, your junior high school journey will come to an end. You will say good bye to your friends and find new schools, new opportunities.
Right now, you were slouching in your seat with your classmates almost doing the same with their phones in their hands. Classes and tests have ended, now you guys just have to pass your requirements and have teachers to sign your clearances to be called a completer.
"This is boring," Alya stated. She was slumped over her desk, her glasses slightly askew. She was sluggishly sorting photos in her professional camera. Since there were no classes anymore, you opted to sit next to her. You were silently dwelling in your own personal bubble, doodling.
"I know, right?" Mylene said, ending it with a sigh. "Why don't we do something before the day ends?"
Before anyone could answer, someone suddenly knocked on the door, making the whole room quiet. Marinette opened the door, revealing Kagami with several books in her arms.
Kagami was a shy girl, but then as your high school days were coming to an end, she was trying to be more outgoing and sociable. "Is Ms. Bustier present? l am here to deliver my requirements for her subject." She presented a small smile.
The same color-haired girl that was your classmate let her inside and she proceeded to place the books on Bustier's table gently.
You stared at Adrien's back as he basically slumped forward in his seat, placing a palm under his chin. With a blank expression, you went back to doodling.
At the same time, your fellow students teased the golden-haired boy with giddy laughs and mocking words. "Ooh, my boy Adrien's got a crush!"
"Isn't that the girl from the other classroom Adrien has a crush on?" Chloe not-so-subtly whispered to Sabrina who nodded, flustered.
"Hey, Adrien! Cat got your tongue now that Kagami's here?"
All of these words made said boy to be a blushing mess. He basically cowered behind his best friend, while said best friend was laughing with the rest of his mates.
Alya, thinking it was a good idea, placed both palms in the either side of her mouth. "Kagami!"
The raven-haired girl stopped in her tracks, looking up at your seatmate with her widened eyes and her flustered face.
Alya rose up from her seat and walked towards her. "Can you do all of us a favor?" Without warning, she grabbed the poor girl's hands. They were icy like her posture. Kagami then gave her a sheepish smile, nodding as a response. That was all Alya needed, proceeding to go over Adrien and pulled on his arm firmly, still holding on the other's hand.
Your classmates, catching on to what was happening, began to chant different things like, "Go, Adrien!", "You go, golden boy!", "Take a picture, Alya!"
Your best friend placed the boy next to the girl, and their faces couldn't get any redder. They were standing incredibly still, almost as if they were frozen for years now. She brought out her professional camera and focused the lens on the two, but suddenly, her cellular phone rung, vibrating on her desk next to yours. Your steely gaze went from them to the phone, the chime of the ring tone silenced everyone's cheers. The contact says, "mom".
With this, the owner of the phone groaned with her knees buckling and her shoulders sagging. "Mom," she dragged out. Alya hastily skipped a set of stairs before stopping in front of you, retrieving her cellphone. "I'm just gonna take this outside," she announced. "Meanwhile--" she tugged on your arm, making you stand up in your seat.
It happened so fast. The next thing you knew, she handed you her camera and yanked you towards the front, facing the two. "You do it," Alya finished before answering her phone and exiting the room. She closed the door.
Silence ensued.
You turned around, facing the excited looks of your classmates. Kim bursted out, "Go on, Y/N! Take a picture!" They all continued to howl. You rolled your eyes inwardly and turned around again, now facing the forced smile of the two.
You have to put on a fun smile. You are basically calling yourself a clown now. "Stay put!" Your tone was unusually high-pitched, as it was meant to be if you want to convince your people that you're happy.
In the lenses of the camera, you saw Adrien leaned slightly over Kagami, presenting a kind smile, making her smile wide as smile. It only increased the hilarity of the crowd. (a/n: gotdammit i am cringing)
You counted down from three to one, finally pressing the button, capturing the moment. You captured another one, only this time it's from a different angle. The two changed poses, either an open-mouthed smile or a peace sign thrown. Other than that, they were still closer than ever. The proximity was killing you.
Finally, in what felt like forever, Alya finally entered through the door. "Hey, guys! What did I miss?" She said with a gleeful smile. She saw you holding a camera, pointing towards the two, making her smirk. "How'd it go, Y/N?"
"Oh, it was fine." You grinned, giving the camera back to her. "Here."
"Thanks." You swore that there was something in her eyes that makes you want to just-- explode. Alya then turned to Kagami, not noticing the silent deadly glare you were giving her. "Well, you can go back to your classroom now, Kagami. Thanks for doing the favor."
You forced her. You replied in your mind.
Kagami didn't say anything other than a nod and a wave. She left the room in such a peaceful manner. Well, she did grew up in Japan after all.
When she left, the room continued its chats. Adrien went quiet, but he was being comforted and encouraged by his best friend. You and Alya went back to your seats without another word, but you were sure the both of you are going to talk about the incident later after class.
"Do you guys have an idea on what to do before the year ends?" Rose asked loudly.
"Hey," Marinette spoke up. "Why don't we exchange memorable gifts before the day of our graduation?"
Mix sounds of agreements were heard. "Doesn't matter what you wanna give and to whom you're gonna give it, you can give gifts many times you want!"
Max exclaimed, "That's a good idea!"
"Yeah, kinda like our Valentine's Day," Nathaniel said, making you grimace slightly. That was a horrible time. "But this time, there are no limits, right?"
Again, the whole crowd agreed. You were not opposed with the idea of giving gifts. Although it left you some kind of mark, it wouldn't hurt to try again. School is ending after all. You will all transfer to a new school filled with new faces and a new environment. You haven't decided which school you'll be enrolling to next year, but it depends on the job you wanted to have once you finish the course. What are the things you are most passionate about?

You and Alya walked side by side, on the path you both usually take when going home.
"Are you okay with earlier?" She turned to you, still walking. You did not return the gaze, instead you stared at your moving feet.
"I don't know, Alya, you tell me." You shrugged with one shoulder.
She went silent. "I thought it was a good idea if you--"
"Since when was that a good idea?" You snapped, finally looking at her in the eyes. But when you saw her frown, your expression immediately softened. "Sorry," you muttered.
"I'm sorry too. I was just making sure if you've already moved on. School's ending, after all."
"Yeah, uh." You gulped. "I-I'm trying, Alya. It's a slow process, but I'll get over it soon."
Alya smiled. "Proud of you." You smiled back. "Anyway, do you have an idea for our gift-giving?"
"I don't know," you answered truthfully. "But rest assured that I will give you one."
"Yay!"
