Chapter 8

He grunted, and smiled, "getting a little cocky I see."

"Pfft, never." I rolled my eyes. He pushed me off, and I stepped back.

"You're pretty good, I guess."

"That was just one move." I bragged.

"Well, you may have been underestimated with your skills."

"Clearly." I crossed my arms, and stared at him. "Now what?"

He stood up, grunting and shrugged. "What do you think?" He asked.

"I don't know. You're the one who's supposed to tell me what to do."

"I'm a part of your imagination-"

"Excuse me?" I asked.

"Well, it's more complex than that, but we'll just say that for now."

"That's doesn't help very much." I gritted my teeth.

"Anyways you need to get out of this hospital, as fast as you can, get them to run all the tests in like a few days, I don't know, just get out-"

"Why?"

"Zane, is coming back. It's time for you to end him-"

"I can't kill him!"

"He assaulted a police officer-"

"Detective."

"Same thing," he waved it off. I huffed, and glared at him.

"There's a huge difference."

"How so?"

"Well it's more complex that that," I mocked.

"You are really childish-"

"Aren't we all sometimes."

"Whatever, anyways I was getting at a point."

"What's that?"

"Uh...right. Okay, so you're a DETECTIVE so if you do kill him it may as well have been self defense." I stared at him for a minute.

"...Just curious how much do you know about our... process?"

"Not much, but enough to know that you could claim it as self defense." I rolled my eyes.

"I hardly know you, but I already hate you."

"I get that a lot, but besides that point."

"You're very bad at explaining."

"I know shut up!"

"Well I'm going to go while you think about how to explain that. Okay?"

"Whatever."

"Bye!" I waved.

I sat up in my hospital bed, and grabbed the notebook and started to write down the dream, leaving out the part about killing Zane. I heard a knock on the door.

"Come it." I called. The door opened, and Fallen walked in. "Hey!" I smiled.

"Hellu!" She smiled. She sat down in a chair next to the bed. "So how's our crippled doing?"

"I'm not crippled," I crossed my arms. She laughed, and leaned back in her chair.

"I'm teasing you."

"I know." I laughed. I looked at her grey eyes, and furrowed my eyebrows together. "Fallen, WHY are you so stressed?"

"I'm not stressed!" She replied.

"Your eyes are the windows to your soul, and your soul is telling me you're stressed... so what's up?"

"Since you're gone right now I'm stuck working with, Arden." I held back laugh, and covered my mouth.

"I'm so sorry." I snorted. She gritted her teeth.

"It's not funny! All he wants to do it eat! He can't get any work done! It's really annoying," she ran her finger through her hair.

"Well I should be out of here soon, hopefully."

"Why are you even in here?"

"Tests. Something about my past, which I try to avoid, but at this point it's unavoidable." I started to record our conversation.

"Are you writing down what were talking about?"

"Yes."

"Uh... why?"

"Because they told me to write down whatever I feel like writing or something like that. I forgot why though." I shrugged, and finished writing, and tossed the book on the floor. "Anyways, anything been happening since I've been gone?"

"Nothing too interesting aside from looking for, Zane, and answering a few noise complaints, the usual." I sighed and sunk back into the pillow. "Oh, also captain said when you get back he has a job for you... just for you."

"What the hell does that mean?"

"I don't know."

"Captain Shey, has never given a crap about what we do with our jobs, as long as we catch the correct culprit... now that I think of it... I don't really remember what he looks like." I frowned.

"Well didn't you say that you had a minor concussion?"

"Yeah... well that may be it," I shrugged. The door opened, and a doctor walked in.

"(Y/N), your examinations are over for now."

"Really!?" I felt my smile appear. "Even after all the weirdness with my brain and what not?"

"Yes. Now is your friend here to pick you up?" I looked over at Fallen with pleading eyes and she sighed.

"Yes sir, I'm her partner. Here to pick up my ol' friend here," she smiled, clapping me on the back, which caused me to wince. "Sorry," she murmured.

I shook of the small twinge of pain, and stood up. "Let's go now! Somewhere more glorious, like work!" Fallen sang.

I let out a laugh, and followed her out of the building. I got in the front seat of the car, and Fallen got in the driver's seat. "So, what quest you going on, oh brave soldier?" She teased.

"I don't know. Maybe I'm gonna go... do... something."

"Well, that would be ideal," she laughed.

"To be honest I don't know why the captain would want to see me. I don't think I've ever had some sort of significance... have I?"

"Not that I can recall, I mean. Aside from you being able to detect lying, no matter how good a liar they are."

"Well... that's because I'm good with emotions, and all the humbo jumbo." I waved my hands around.

"Sure, okay. So where'd you learn all this 'humbo jumbo' from?"

"Myself. I... before the end of my freshman year I couldn't feel emotions-"

"Hogwash!" She snapped.

"What?"

"It means nonsense," she rolled her eyes like it was obvious. "Don't you ever read?"

"Not really," I replied.

"Anyways continue."

"Well then I meant this guy... named Aaron and we-"

"Please don't tell me you got pregnant in high school-"

"FALLEN!!!"

"I'm sorry!"

"Anyways we fell in love, and I could suddenly feel emotions. I don't know how, but I could. Okay?"

"Wait... Aaron? Wasn't there a guy named Aaron at Lover's Lane? Aphmau's boyfriend, or something like that?"

"Uh..."

"WAS IT HIM!?" She asked, with wide eyes.

"Yes... yes it was him."
