Chapter Two - Friend?

Badboyhalo POV (3rd person)

Bad had been minding his own business, mining some coal to bring home, when he heard screaming.

He whipped his head around, looking for the source. He was much too far from the village for it to be a villager, and even if it was villager that was screaming, it definitely wouldn't sound like this.

The scream was faint and high-pitched, so most likely a girl. (But he wasn't positive. He had some friends who scream like girls.)

He stood up, snapping with the fingers of his right hand. The diamond pickaxe he had been holding switched to a diamond sword, glinting in the moonlight.

He crept along the ridge he had been mining, peeking over the edge.

He saw a large, shallow water pool that reflected the moon. He had seen it hundreds of times when he came out here, so he thought nothing of it. But the scream definitely came from over here...

He then realized that it wasn't coming from the pool. It was coming from above it.

He looked up just in time to see a figure flash by, then a loud splash.

The water rippled, and Bad stared at the water, noticing someone in it, laying absolutely still. Then they started thrashing, bubbles streaming from their mouth. When they sat up, Bad got a clear view of their face.

The figure was about (Y/height.)

As the moon reflected onto her face, he could see her face clearly. Her long hair flowed down her back, dripping wet (Unless you have short hair). He couldn't really tell, but her hair looked like it was (Y/H/C) and (Y/H/kind)(straight, wavy, dreadlocks, etc).

Her (E/C) eyes shone, lined with (Y/ lash length and color) lashes that fluttered mesmerizingly whenever she blinked. She had nice (Y/S/C) skin and soft (Y/C) lips. The moonlight cast an unearthly glow upon her face.

He found himself staring. But he looked away, not wanting to seem like a creepy stalker, watching a girl without her knowing--

"HELLOO?" Bad heard a voice call. He flinched. Peeking over the ridge again, he could see that the girl was standing up, cupping her hands around her mouth and yelling.

"HELLLOOOOO?!" She called again, louder this time. Bad resisted the urge to run over there and tell her to be quiet. What was she thinking, shouting like that? She'd attract tons of mobs!

He waited.

Or not, he mentally conceded after seeing that no monsters had appeared.

The girl took off her jacket, revealing a lovely figure. Bad slid down behind the ridge and put a hand over his mouth. What was he thinking?

He then heard footsteps, so he peeked out from behind the rock once again. She had gotten out of the pool and was trudging away from it. Her lips were turning blue, and she was shivering.

He contemplated going out to help her, then decided against it. He would keep an eye on her for a while, and if she really needed help, he would help her.

Y/N POV

I walked along the grass, occasionally passing animals that paid me absolutely no attention. I was starting to get tired. I had been walking for at least two hours now, and I hadn't seen any signs of civilization. I was beginning to wonder if there even was any to find.

I was too befuddled to think about the fact that I had fallen from the sky and landed in a pool of water, somehow surviving. I didn't think I was even in my own world anymore.

Don't be silly, (Y/N), I told myself.

But maybe I was right?

Some time later, my legs were getting terribly wobbly and I felt lightheaded, when I noticed something about twenty meters away.

It was a figure. A tall, bony figure that seemed to be pointing something at me. I squinted.

As it got closer, I realized that the reason I had thought it was bony was because it was literally made of bones. My nerves started tingling, and I thought that maybe now was a good time to start running.

But I couldn't look away as the creature came into full view. It was a real, genuine skeleton, made of bones that clattered and clinked as it moved. Its eyes were hollow sockets, and its bony fingers were holding a bow that indeed had an arrow nocked, and it was pointed straight at me.

I couldn't move. I'd never seen anything like it. What was keeping it together? Was it an animatronic, or perhaps some sort of extra-large windup toy?

It poised its bow to shoot, and I unfroze, turning and running as fast as I possibly could. My legs pumped, my heart racing. I heard the string being drawn taut, and I dropped to my knees when I heard the arrow fly. It whistled over my head and impaled itself in the side of an unlucky sheep, which bleated in protest and fell over on its side. Instead of gushing blood like I expected, the animal just went poof, leaving behind a couple of slabs of meat and wool.

What the...

But I didn't get time to think about it when I realized that the skeleton was now looming over me, a new arrow nocked in its bow. It was staring down at me, its hollow sockets boring into my skull.

I froze up again. I hated when that happened, and it happened all the time. If anything frightened me, I just froze. And that stupid little flaw was about to get me killed.

I squeezed my eyes shut, preparing myself for the arrow to pierce through my skull and end my life.

But it never came.

I heard a metallic swoosh, and the clattering of bones as they fell to the ground.

I slowly opened my eyes to see a dark, hooded figure standing over a pile of bones, a blue-tinted sword in their hand.

I felt a momentary wave of dread. Was this new person going to try and kill me, too? Then I realized that they had killed the skeleton that had been about to kill me, so I guess they were nice...?

Their sword suddenly disappeared, and they reached a gloved hand out to me.

"Hey," they said. The voice was kind and seemed male. "Are you okay?"

I slowly nodded and took his (their?) hand, letting myself be pulled up onto my feet.

"My name is Bad," he said. I gave him a confused look.

"I know it's a strange name," he admitted. "My real first name is Halo, my last name is Bad. But I prefer to be called Bad."

I nodded.

"You don't talk much, do you?" He said. "That's alright."

The truth was, I was bursting with questions. But I kept getting distracted by this new person. He was dressed in a black hoodie lined with red, black pants, and black combat boots. His face was completely obscured, though it was very confusing because it looked like he had a face. His eyes, however, were completely white. Surprisingly, this wasn't creepy. I could see his nose, but it didn't look like he had a mouth. Wait, no-- he did. But why was his face all black? And it wasn't like just really dark brown-- it was kind of grayish-black, like the graphite of a pencil.

His hair was the same color, barely peeking out from his hood.

"I saw you fall from the sky a few hours ago," he said. "I wasn't sure whether I should've helped you or not, so I kinda just trailed behind you until you needed help. I hope that doesn't sound creepy."

I shook my head and attempted to speak, but his face was strangely mesmerizing. It was oddly coal-like, and it shone whenever the moonlight hit it. His white eyes were bright, two glowing orbs in the night.

He noticed me staring at him and self-consciously pulled his hood down.

"A-are you confused by my skin color?" He said timidly. "I don't really know why it's so dark. I was just born this way." He pouted. Then he lifted his head. "Are you afraid of me?"

My eyes widened, and I shook my head vigorously. "N-no, I-I'm not s-scared--"

"Ah! So you do talk!" He exclaimed.

I furrowed my brow. "W-well of course I...of course I t-talk!" I said.

"You stutter a lot," he noted.

"Hey!"

"Sorry," he said. "I tend to make observations like that randomly. I stutter too."

I bit my lip, wrapping my jacket around me. "I-I'm (Y/N)."

He smiled. "Nice to finally know your name. Ah! Are you cold?" He asked, realizing that I was shivering.

I almost said no, not wanting to trouble him, but I felt that if I played it down I would get hypothermia. I nodded.

I expected him to give me his sweater or something, but instead he reached into his bag that was slung over his shoulder (which I had only just noticed was there) and pulled out a large blanket that shouldn't have been able to fit in the bag, which was only about the size of a beach ball. I thought to myself that it had maybe been rolled up in a ball to fit better. But when he pulled out an entire bow, my eye twitched. Sure. First being able to survive a 1000+ foot fall from the sky, then a living skeleton, and now this mysterious character with pure black skin pulling miscellaneous objects out of a bag that didn't have the physical capacity to hold them, like Mary fricking Poppins or something. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled out a magic umbrella and started prancing around, singing "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down!"

He handed me the blanket and kept the bow for himself, slinging the bag back over his shoulder.

I wrapped the blanket around me. Bad motioned for me to follow him.

"Follow me, (Y/N)," he said. "I'll take you to the place where I live. We can get you all cleaned up and fed."

I muttered a thank you and began walking next to him, both of us in total silence.

Well, this is awkward, I thought.

I suddenly heard a rustling sound to our right and jerked to the side, colliding with Bad and nearly knocking him over.

"Hey, what--"

His face reddened, making him look like a really dark strawberry when he realized I was clinging onto him. "Uh... (Y/N), what are you doing?"

I realized what I was doing and quickly let go.

"Sorry," I said. "I heard something. It scared me." I looked over to where the sound had come from. I expected it to be a cow or a sheep, but my eyes widened when I realized that it was a spider. A giant spider the size of a bumper car, with hairy, spindly legs and eight glowing red eyes. I paled, and I began to feel lightheaded.

"B-Bad?" I whispered. He hadn't yet noticed the spider.

"Yeah?"

"Its a sp... A s- a sp- sp- ahhh!" I screamed.

He whipped around. "What-? OH JEEZ!"

I saw him unsheathe his sword and run towards it, but my consciousness was fading. I have a deathly fear of spiders. (I know that some of you probably aren't afraid of spiders, but I just put this in here for the plot) and seeing a five-foot-long one wasn't great for my arachnophobia.

Just as Bad sliced the monster, my knees buckled. He turned around, grinning with pride. "I managed to kill it without taking damage! Isn't that--" He saw me falling and rushed forward to catch me. "(Y/N)!"

His voice echoed through my ears. Blood rushed to my head.

I fainted.
