Chapter 2
*Hermione POV*
The day was finally here! I was finally going back to Hogwarts! Everyone was excited despite the loss from last year.
I quickly added the last touches to my light, barely there make up and checked my trunk one last time.
I levitated my trunk down the stairs and in front of the door. I rushed to the kitchen and grabbed a piece of buttered toast. I started devouring it.
"Slow down Hermione! You'll get hiccups!" My mum scolded.
I grinned at her apologetically. "I'm sorry mum but I need to get there soon, I need to save a compartment for the train" I explained.
She sighed and shook her head at me, smiling. She probably thought I was crazy, wanting to go back after the war and everything but I moved on and so did everyone else, Now I wanted to complete my education.
I quickly finished my toast and gave my mum a kiss on the cheek.
"Bye mum! I love you, I'll owl you when I get there" I called.
I quickly grabbed my wand and crookshanks. I apparated to platform 9 3/4.
Wizarding families were scattered all over the place, little first years boarding the train. The train was billowing smoke as always and every thing felt so familiar yet so new.
I smiled and waved at my old friends and craned my neck around to find Harry and Ron. I spotted someone with platinum blond hair board the train and my smile turned into a frown.
I remembered my encounter with the ferret the other day and my frown deepened. I still didn't know what to do to get him back. But when I did, he would pay. He would pay real good. He would learn the hard way that nobody messed with Hermione Granger.
Someone placed their hand on my shoulder and I jumped. I whipped around and Ron was standing there, a grin plastered to his face.
"Ron!" I shouted and hugged him tight.
"Merlin 'Mione, I can't breathe" he wheezed.
I quickly let go and we both chuckled. Lavender appeared and waved at me.
"Hi Lavender! How's it going?" I asked.
"Good thank you!" She replied.
"Where are Harry and Ginny?" I asked, looking around.
"Oh, they've already boarded the train so come on. We better go before our seats are taken" Ron said.
I nodded and we all ran onto the train. We walked down the train, recognising some of our friends that had returned safely from the war. I smiled at all of them and they waved back.
We carried on down the train until we arrived at the compartment where a certain raven haired boy and a certain red head were making out like there was no tomorrow.
We all walked in and Ron cringed at the sight before him. I coughed awkwardly and they pulled apart immediately, alarmed.
"Well hello there Harr-eo and Ginny-et" I sniggered.
Harry blushed slightly and looked down but Ginny just stuck her tongue out at me.
"Deal with it 'Mione" she said with a grin.
I chuckled and took a seat next to the window, opposite Ginny. Harry sat next to her and Ron sat next to Lavender on my side.
I sighed and heard the train toot, signalling that the train was about to start. All the remaining students ran onto the train while their families shouted all sorts of things at them. I smiled a little and leaned my head against the cool glass, it felt quite nice.
The train started moving and I grinned to myself. Finally, after so long I was returning. Returning back home.
I closed my eyes and let everything sink in. I still just couldn't believe that we were going back!
"So how was your summer 'Mione?" Harry asked, trying to make conversation.
"Fine, thanks. Nothing exciting happened really" I said, shrugging nonchalantly.
I purposely left out the day where I was at Diagon Alley and ran into the ferret. Humph. More like he ran into me, the stupid jerk.
"So guys, I was wondering, what are your goals for our last year at Hogwarts?" Ginny asked.
"What? Like passing with good grades?" Ron asked, scratching his head. Classic Ron.
Ginny sighed. "I mean, besides from educational things like reading books and doing homework" she said, looking at me with a smirk playing on her lips. "For example, my goal this year is to try and win every quiditch match that the Gryfindors have" she said, crossing her arms across her chest smugly.
"Oh well then, my goal is to spend as much time as I can with Lav" Ron said fondly, draping his arm over Lavender.
Lavender giggled and snuggled into him. "Me too. My goal is to spend as much time as I can with Ron" she said.
"Hmm... my goal is to try and have a normal year" Harry laughed.
"It's never just a normal year Harry" I said, grinning at my best friend.
"Oh well. It's a goal. And my goals are hardly ever achieved. Remember out first year where I said I wouldn't meddle after an incident with Norbert? Well that went down the drain the next week" he laughed, recalling our first year.
"How about you Hermione? What's your goal?" Lavender asked.
I pondered for a moment. I didn't exactly have a goal this year except from reading and getting excellent grades but Ginny said NON educational so I wasn't exactly sure...
"How about to get a boyfriend?" Ginny said excitedly, sitting up.
"Haha NO thank you..." I said.
Ginny grumbled and slumped back in her seat. "Just once pleeeeease? You never want to be in a relationship" she begged
"Because Ginny, I think that it's not necessary to be involved in such things" I explained.
"Well of course it's not necessary but you obviously should get one" Lavender intervened.
"Exactly!" Ginny exclaimed, pointing to Lavender.
Why did everyone want me to get a boyfriend? Boys didn't ever give me a second look let alone want to date me. I stood up and brushed myself off.
"I'm going to the bathroom. I'll be back in a minute" I announced and pushed out of the compartment.
I didn't really need to go to the bathroom, I just had to get myself some space to think. I walked down the carriage.
Think about what? Hmm... I don't know... goals? What did I actually want to achieve this year? I groaned with frustration when I couldn't think of anything that didn't involve studying somehow. I really needed to get a social life.
I smirked as I heard Ginny's voice in my head telling me the same thing, trust her to nag about 'loosening up'.
I walked down the carriage, waving at old friends. I looked through their compartment windows and grinned.
I quickly carried on, going further and further down the carriage.
I suddenly spotted Blaise Zabini coming out of a compartment. I don't know what made me did it, but I decided to walk over to that very compartment.
I hesitated before quickly looking through the glass, trying not to look like a weirdo. What I saw didn't shock me exactly although it did startle me a bit.
The ferret was sitting, sleeve pulled up, inspecting his dark mark with a frown etched upon his handso- FACE. Stupid and very ugly face. Heh heh.... ;-;
The dark mark on his arm was faded, you could still see it but it was a little faint. A little voice in the back of my mind was nagging me to walk away and forget whatever this was. But obviously, being me, I pushed the door open and stepped in.
His head snapped up with a scowl plastered on his face, looking for the intruder in that moment of privacy, he quickly hid his arm from sight. However, when he saw me he replaced the scowl with a flirtatious smile/smirk. I'll call it a flirtatious smirle!
I rolled my eyes at him and crossed my arms over my chest.
"Why, hello there Granger, what brings you here on this fine day?" He asked.
"My feet" I sneered.
He smirked at me and spread his legs out on the floor, crossing them and looking careless.
"So Granger, about the other day don't take it to heart okay?" He sniggered.
I glared at him and took a seat opposite him.
"Oh shut up, I don't even listen to your nonsense anyway so what am I supposed to 'not take to heart'?" I snapped.
"Correction Granger, not nonsense but facts" he smirked.
Merlin, this boy pissed me off so much. I felt like ripping my hair out. I bit down on my lip, not letting him have the satisfaction of seeing me annoyed.
I looked back up at his face and I could've sworn that I saw his silver eyes stray to my lips before immediatly looking back up at my face but it was probably just my imagination.
"What facts?" I asked, trying to keep the outrage out of my voice.
"You know, when I said that you couldn't seduce anyone" he said, looking me directly in the eye with that infuriating smirk plastered on his face.
I wanted strangle him, no kidding. I stood up and scowled at him fiercely. If looks could kill, he would've been long dead.
"I bet I could seduce YOU if I really tried" I threatened. "But what would be the point on spending my precious time on you?" I spat.
He broke out laughing, clutching his stomach. He doubled over and the scene reminded me exactly of what happened in Diagon Alley.
"Good... One Granger. Y-you ssseduce me?" He chocked out, laughing.
He didn't sound bad laughing, if only wasn't at my expense. Wait WHAT? Be quiet stupid mind. I must be really tired...
I kept a straight face and glared at him. After a bit he wiped the tears from his eyes and looked back up at me.
"OH! You were serious?" He asked, looking shocked and like he was about to burst out into laughter again.
"Dead serious" I spat.
"Pfffft" he said and chortled.
"Just watch Malfoy. You'll see. You will regret laughing at my modesty" I threatened.
"Will I know? What will you do Granger? Bore me to death with books and facts? Or maybe suffocate me with your baggy clothes?" He replied snarkily, uncaring of the fact that I was looking ready to kill.
I was seriously thinking of hexing him badly but thought better of it. I would get in trouble and I did not want to get in trouble on the first day!
"You asked for it Malfoy. Just wait and see what I do. You'll be sorry" I shouted.
I stormed out of the compartment, shoving past Blaise Zabini on the way out. I heard Malfoy chuckling behind me and glowered.
I quickly walked back to our compartment and entered. I stepped right into a full on make out session from all my friends. I sighed and sat back down in my seat, feeling a bit of regret and resentment because of being left out but also because of the stupid ferret.
I stared out of the window and came up with possible revenge plots..

So there we were in the great Hall, waiting for the sorting ceremony to finish so we could eat already. My stomach growled.
Harry looked deep in thought while Ron was looking impatient, for the food probably. Everyone knew how Ron would get into a strop when he didn't get his food on time.
"This is taking so long" he whined as a new Gryfindor joined our table.
"Be quiet Ron! It's nearly finished. I'm sure you can wait" Ginny scolded.
Ron pouted and crossed his arms. The whole scene made a smile tug on my lips. Just then professor McGonogall stood up and we all fell silent.
"Welcome back" she said, pausing. "I hope you are all well"
Mutters of disagreement swept through the hall. The headmistress raised her hand and we all fell silent once again.
"I know you are all wondering why you are back here. Simple. To finish your education" she said, looking around the hall at all of us.
"We are fully aware of the fact that lots of you have suffered greatly as results of the war. Yes, it was hard on everyone but that does not mean you shouldn't finish your education. Education is the key to a successful life after all" she stated, I really had to agree with that. I threw a pointed look at Ginny and she shrugged at me, grinning.
"Now, after the feast we would like everyone except the 7th years, the ones that are redoing and the normal 7th years, to leave. Thank you, that is all" she said and sat down.
We all shared looks, wondering what was going on. Ron was just taking ravenous bites of his chicken leg, he couldn't care less. We all chuckled, at least some things didn't change.
We all started eating, satisfying our growling stomachs. We all laughed and talked about our summers.
During the feast, I quickly sneaked a glance at the ferret. He was talking to Theodore Nott and Blaise Zabini who had his arm wrapped around Pansy Parkinson, I assumed they were a couple. (A.N. Theo will be a big part of this ^-^)
Malfoy's eyes were brighter than at the time of the war. He was laughing and eating. I felt a smile tug at my lips and my eyes quickly widened. I shook my head and quickly focused back on my food, not daring to sneak another look at him.
After the feast, all the students, except the seventh years of course, left. All the seventh years were left behind, sharing looks of concern and curiosity.
"I wonder what's going on" Harry whispered, face grim.
Ginny grabbed Harry's hand and gave him a comforting look. Harry smiled and relaxed.
I smiled a little at the sight.
"I'm sure you are all curious as to why you were kept back. Well listen closely and you will find out" she spoke, silencing the mumbling.
"This year I, the new Headmistress, have decided to break a few traditions and try something new" she said before the hall exploded.
Everyone was suggesting wild ideas about what was going to happen.
"LISTEN TO ME" professor McGonogall's voice boomed across the room. We all fell into deathly silence again.
"Now, we all know this is shocking for you but think of it as an experiment. We have decided to test it out with your year because if the idea does not work out it won't affect your education as much as it would to youngers" she explained.
Some people were lost, some outraged and some happy and positive towards the whole idea.
To be honest, it didn't bother me much just yet but then again, I didn't know what this 'experiment' was.
"I'm sure you all are aware of how much the lack of house unity affected us in the war" she said and everyone glared towards the slytherin table, which was emptier than normal.
They all squirmed under the glares and shrugged.
"And that is why the first change was getting rid of the school uniform just for the seventh years. We feel like if you are able to wear your own clothes, you are able to express yourself and originality instead of following old traditions of rivalry" she said, addressing all of us.
Everyone nodded, quite liking the lack of uniform. No objections... yet.
"The second change is relatively bigger. The second change is that we will be getting rid of house common rooms and dorms" she said.
Everyone shouted questions like 'where will we sleep then?' Or 'where will we hang out?' Or 'where are we supposed to celebrate after winning Quiditch matches?' The last one was from Ginny.
Professor McGonogall sent up red sparks with her wand, making the talking die down.
"As I was SAYING, house dorms and common rooms will be abolished, for your year, and replaced by separate ones that you will be sharing with a group of 6" she stated.
More mutters broke out, everyone confused.
"3 girls and 3 boys in each living area. All dorms are separate with a shared common room. We have decided who you are put with" she shouted above the noise.
Everyone started sharing screams of outrage.
"This is an outrage!" Cormac McLaggen shouted.
"I demand to know who we will be put with" Seamus Finnigan shouted.
"My father will hear about this!" Malfoy shouted.
We all stopped to stare at him. His father was in Azkaban. He shrugged off all of our stares and sat down again, looking a little embarrassed.
"Sorry, old habit" he shouted.
We all shook our heads. What a ferret.
"Thank you Mr Malfoy. Carrying on, we have chosen people you are all used to, everyone will have at least one friend with them. Other than that, the others will be from different houses. This change will help house unity and help you socialise with new people" She said.
Everyone was still mumbling about the unfairness of it all but it was better because everyone was assured that they would have at least one friend.
"Tonight will be the last night you will sleep in your house dorms. Tomorrow morning you will be escorted to your separate dorms by your head of House like myself, Professor Slughorn, professor Sprout and professor Flitwick. That is all. Oh wait one more thing, Quiditch tryouts will be starting next week" she said and sat down.
"I can't believe this!" Ron moaned.
"I know! How can we do this? We are so used to our houses" Ginny whined.
"I'm sure we'll manage" I said quietly.
Harry raised an eyebrow at me but offered me a comforting smile.
I could feel a pair of eyes on me and looked up. The ferret. When he noticed me staring back, he smirked and winked at me before turning back to his friends.
I rolled my eyes. Poser. Then I had an idea. A plot. A scheme. To get back at Malfoy for making snide comments and laughing at my modesty.
My eyes went wide as I planned it all out in my head. I knew it was completely outrageous and absolutely illogical but at least I had a goal now. An aim. A mission.
