Jin's POV:
I left Namjoon's office after fixing his documents, and making sure everything was in order.
My phone was vibrating like crazy, making me anxious to answer it so it would shut up for once.
When I took the device out of my back pocket, it was blowing up with messages from, guess who...
Lucifer! He spammed my phone with messages that weren't even worth replying to.
I called the Douchewad and made up an excuse to be able to go to Sin-X later on in the evening, ultimately changing my shift to a much later one than my usual time, but I didn't care.
If it means not having to get another beating from Mister Jang, then I'll make up every single excuse I can, just to avoid him.
He drove a hard bargain, but eventually I got my way, especially since I was his most spoiled stripper in the club.
Now with one thing out of my mind, I looked back at what he wrote to me and felt like sending him a virtual ass whooping through the screen.
I put my phone away, then stared back at Namjoon, who was in front of the desk.
"Seokjin, can you fill in these papers for me while I head to an important conference meeting?" His scent was seriously diving me insane.
"Yes, boss." I answered with a sassy tone, which would have been meant for Mister Jang, but I had to let out, at least a portion of my anger out somehow.
My boss didn't think much of it and just thought it was my normal tone of voice, but then he headed back, pointing his index finger upwards while thinking of what to respond.
I froze, waiting for an answer.
"Were you being sarcastic?"
"When." I answered, supporting my elbows on the desk.
"What do you mean, when? You just spoke to me using a sarcastic tone." Seeing
how oddly offended he looked made me smirk.
"Come again?" I acted like I knew nothing of what the man was saying, keeping him teased.
"You just used sarcasm with me, Secretary Kim. I heard it. I felt it." No matter how much he spoke, I still found a way to turn the tables on him.
"Who... Me? Mr. Kim, I really don't understand you." I played the roll of a good dummy, surprisingly, because Namjoon seriously thought that I was still confused.
"Don't do that." Namjoon finally laughed, figuring out that I was teasing him the entire time.
I smiled, feeling like I had released all of my anger out in the form of laughter, earning happiness through teasing my own boss.
"You're just making me late for my meeting, Secretary Kim. You realize that, don't you?" He began to make me feel guilty, getting back at me for teasing him earlier.
"Who, me?"
"Nooooo, the guy in the office next to yours, of course." Now that he was being sarcastic, I was beginning to feel challenged by him, so I continued being sassy.
"His name is Secretary Kim, as well? Wow!! Amazing!" I clapped.
"Keep this up, you might just get fired." My boss walked away. I knew I had pissed him off, but I couldn't help myself.
The anger I felt towards Mister Jang was enough for me to take it out on anyone in front of me.
And unfortunately, it had to be Kim Namjoon, my own boss.
The 'somewhat' better boss I once thought was perfect for me, was now making my life impossible.
Not to mention, my mission.
I began to fill out the documents, feeling a cramp in my hand, halfway through.
My anger was leaving me crippled. What made matters worse, was when my phone started to vibrate again.
I answered it, only to increase my frustration.
"Did you end up in a wheelchair because of my whip, sweetie?" Oh, how I wish I could shove my hand through the phone and virtually rip Mister Jang's tongue out.
"I'm busy at an important dinner with my brother, boss." I felt a rush of blood reach my head, burning my body from the inside with anger and resentment towards him.
"Aww, is somebody mad? I didn't even hit you that hard, come on!" His response almost 'sounded' to him as if he had just softly scratched my back.
"Have you seen my body? You nearly mutilated me." I responded, as quiet as could, all the while, holding back on screaming over the phone at him.
"Be here by 12:00 AM, tonight. That's when your new shift starts. Goodbye, gorgeous." He hung up, and my shoulders slumped down again when I relaxed.
Not long after one call of mine had finished, another one went through, but this one was different.
It wasn't from my phone, it was from the office phone on my desk.
"Volts Edge Technology, Secretary Kim speaking. How may I help you today?" I answer with a smile, even though the caller wouldn't be able to see it.
"Hello, I would like to speak to the head of Volts Edge. The young man named Kim Namjoon." My mind relaxed.
"Namjoon is hosting a meeting at the moment, but I can notify him about your call later on." I waited for the caller to respond, while still filling out the pile of papers Namjoon had previously handed over to me.
All of this multitasking has me thirsty.
"Thank you, my name is Kim Yeoshin. What's your name?"
"I don't give out my real name, but I do go by Secretary Kim. I'm Volts Edge's newest secretary." I heard a laugh coming from the other line.
"A manly voice like yours belongs in another profession, not as a secretary."
"Men can be secretaries too, you know." I kept calm, but the usual smile I give to any of my callers, had vanished.
Whenever I get a call, I smile, not caring if the other person can't really see it.
It's just the way I am.
But now, my smile had faded off into a flat, motionless expression.
"Yeah? And do men wear pencil skirts and walk in high heels too? That's a job meant for women." The man's laughter was like cutting through a wire on an invisible time bomb I had wrapped around my heart.
I was on the edge of exploding.
"I don't see what's so wrong about it, you jerk." My professionalism jumped out the window for a split second, as I swore at an unknown person, unable to contain my anger.
"Well... You know what they say about secretaries: They're the type to seduce their boss just for a little extra cash." My eyes widened.
"Who told you that..."
"No one told me. I already knew. Why do you think Namjoon's fired so many of them?" Fired? I had no idea that Namjoon even had secretaries before me.
With that, the man left me hanging just as I was about to ask him about the secretaries Namjoon has had before, and the reason why he's fired them.
I remained with a mystery that turned my anger into pure curiosity.
~~~
By the time Namjoon returned, I handed him over each signed file, surprising him.
"Do you need anything else, sir?"
"No. Thanks for doing this, Seokjin. It's been a long day..." His sigh left me so hypnotized, I nearly forgot about what I was supposed to tell him after the conference meeting was over.
I later on remembered, calling out to my boss.
"Oh, you had a call earlier. It was from Kim Yeoshin." Namjoon was about to take another
step away from me, but my voice reeled him back in with a facial expression I've never seen before.
He seemed hurried and frightened.
"Are you okay?" His head nodded, but his voice said otherwise.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier when he was in the call. You're my secretary, this is what you're paid for." I stood up, rolling the expensive chair so far away, it collided against the
wall.
"Oh, look! I believe it's time for me to leave now. Have a beautiful day, Mr. Kim."
Kim Namjoon: The only man I thought wasn't like my old boss, turned out to be just like him.
I pressed my finger down on the elevator, but it took too long to open, so I headed for the stairs.
The minute I was about to exit, I felt someone grab my wrist and drag me back in the building.
"You are not to leave this office until you've completed your full hours and according to the clock, you still have three hours left." I clenched my jaw, jerking my arm away from Namjoon while heading back to my office.
The moment I sat down on the chair I had pushed before with anger before, I fell to the ground when it broke, becoming a laughingstock of everybody around me who saw when I had fallen back.
Very few were laughing. In fact, some were even asking if I was okay, but in my eyes, everyone was pointing fingers, staring at my weakness while laughing.
Out of all of the workers who offered me their helping hand to get back up on my feet, I remained on the ground, not wanting to be helped by anyone.
That was up until I felt a hand yank me up. I looked back and saw the man I had walked out on before, Kim Namjoon.
My face turned red with embarrassment as I still heard people laughing.
"That's enough. Instead of laughing at this injured man, why don't you get back to work?"
The individuals all parted ways under their boss's command, leaving me alone with him.
Out of all the things I did to him, he still defended me.
Why? I don't understand.
"Are you hurt?" My stomach fluttered, and I felt the urge to dunk my face in a bucket of ice so that it would stop turning so red.
"I... I'll get back to work now." I lowered my head, facing the computer screen next to me.
"That's not what I told you to do." The man turned me over, forcing me to stare into his eyes.
"Are you hurt?" He repeated his question.
"Yes. Because of you..." My thoughts were so loud, they came out of my mouth without me even noticing.
Oh God, I'm screwed now...
