Poppies

"You know? I sorta like this," Mark says and turning to him, Jack cocks an eyebrow.

"Like what?"

"Traveling. Being on the road, not knowing how you'll really make it tomorrow but knowing that you'll make it because you know that you couldn't not make it," Mark pauses, "Does that make sense?"

"You like the uncertainty of the road," Jack rephrases and Mark nods, grinning.

"Yeah that... but not in the angsty teen way,"

"Of course not," Jack laughs. "In the most pure adult way right?"

"Oh definitely," Mark jokes and that makes Jack laugh. Smiling he turns to the open window, warm air filtering through. The outside was nice and kind. Wildflowers, the sun, and miles and miles of hills. So many hills Jack can't help but grin. Pulling out his camera he snaps a photo.

"Giving me this memory?" Mark asks raising his eyebrows and Jack chuckles.

"Yeah I am pretty boy and trust me, it's a good one," He responds smiling as he pockets the camera.

"Well it better be because I've been giving you lots of sweet memories," Mark states and Jack laughs.

"Like the one of your Wendy's meal? Good like that one?" Jack jokes and suddenly Marks laughing with him.

"Exactly like that one," He laughs and Jacks laughter fades off leaving him with a light smiles as he goes back to the window.

"We've got four more hours," Jack randomly says, his voice soft.

"Really? Four hours," Mark asks scrunching his eyebrows and Jack nods. "That- that seems like so little. Doesn't it?"

"Seems like it," Jack answers softly. "It seemed like just yesterday when you arrived at Ohio. Red hair and a voice as deep as the Grand Canyon," He smiles and Mark laughs.

"Still have the voice but the hair is just a tad different," Mark grins as he casts a sideways look at Jack. "I remember thinking how fucking wild you were when you yanked me from gym class for a smoke outside of school,"

"I remember thinking how god damn hot you were as you took off your shirt in gym class," Jack recounts and Mark laughs hitting him in the shoulder.

"I also remember you calling me a stripper and asking me if I liked LSD," Mark says and Jack laughs as he recalls his memories.

"Oh yeah! I did do that and you know what the funny thing is?" Jack asks and Mark grins.

"What?"

"I've never done LSD in my entire life," Then suddenly, even though its not that funny, they both burst into gut busting laughter as if it is the funniest thing in the world. Marks laughing so hard he's afraid he's gonna drive off the road and Jacks sure at this point he would've driven off the road.

"Oh my god why are we laughing so hard?" Mark asks as he decides it would be best to pull over and Jack shrugs as he doubles over.

"God I have no fuckin' idea," he says, wiping the tears from his eyes as he calms down. Regaining some sense he looks at his surroundings to find that they've pulled over... right next to a field of poppies. Jacks face alights with a smile as he fumbles to get the door handle open quick enough, wanting to run straight into the flowers at full force. Noticing what he's doing Mark follows Jack who's now running straight towards, and into, the massive field of straights flowers.

"Mark! Look!," Jack shouts as he gazes in amazement. The earlier wildflowers were pretty and there were lots but nothing like this. This was thousands upon thousands of unleashed red flowers the fill the field as far as the eye can see with a warm hue. They blew slightly in the breeze and words couldn't describe it and a picture couldn't capture the beauty of them. "They're beautiful," He shouts to Mark who's simply watching Jack, a slight smile on his face. "Come on!" He shouts, pure kid like joy scribbled onto his face. "You have to dance with me," Jack grins and Mark chuckles.

"You see a field of flowers and the first thing you want to do is dance?"

"No," Jack giggles, "Not just dance. I wanna dance with you," Jack smiles and he sees Marks face alight with a soft grin.

"We can dance darling," he calls out as he runs through the flowers to Jack. When he reaches him Jack goes straight for a hug. Savoring the feeling of Marks body. Then he pulls back, cradling Marks cheeks.

"Can we kiss then dance?" Jack whispers and Mark grins.
"You dork," he laughs as he pulls Jack in. Noses bumping and the kiss is messy and unsynchronized and overall a massive con-jumble of lips and tongue but to them, it make sense. It makes more sense than the world. So they kiss. In a field of a thousand flowers and a thousand thoughts. Pulling back Mark flashes a massive smile.

"Now we should dance," So they do. Mark pulls on Jacks hand as he twirls and spins him as laughter booms from both of their chests. Jack spins and spins until he's spun so much he's sure he's going to puke. Falling over they lay in the field, on their backs as the sky in their ceiling. Flowers cradling their body's.

"I like this," Jack grins and Mark turns to look at him.

"Yeah I like this too," Signing Jack stares at the sky.

"I wish I could just live out here with you,"

"Me too," Mark says as he turns to Jack and looking over Jack scoots into his open arms. His head on his chest and Marks strong arm wrapped around his body.

"The house could have large open deck," Jack comments and Mark smiles.

"We could sit out there and drink morning coffee,"

"Then at night the moon would rise and we would start the day over again," Jack finishes with a light smile on his face. Mark makes a slight hum of delight and squeezes Jack tighter.

"That would be nice,"

"Yeah..." Jack says sighing as the sun and the poppies dance around him. "It really would be,"

A/N
We are, sadly, on the ending streak. Three more chapters or so after this one and then I'll be writing my authors note goodbye. It saddens me to think how far this story has come and how little is has to go. Ive fallen in love with these versions of Jack and Mark but don't worry I have a new story to come (or 2) and I like those quiet a lot but how was this chapter? Sweet and sad or something in between because I'm trying to wrap everything up and next chapter with be sad and I hope that you'll like it. So as always thanks for reading and keep going.
