Like That

The car was quiet. Mark was asleep. Jack was driving on a backcountry road where only the occasional car or house passed on by. The sun was just peaking on the horizon and Jack had the radio on a low volume to 'The Vinyl Cafe'. He had become accustom to this station on their time on the road. The soothing voice of Stuart McLean and the stories of Dave were hilarious and he found himself loving it all.

Looking at a passing road sign Jack sees a sign of civilization soon, which he was pretty happy about. He's had to pee for about an hour now.

"Jesus fucking christ the sun," Mark groans from the passengers seat as he wakes up, shielding his eyes.

"Here if you look in the plastic bag you'll find Motrin,  and..." Reaching up Jack digs around in the car for a pair of sunglasses he spotted earlier. "These!" Jack says as he tosses them to Mark. Looking at them Mark narrows his eyes.

"These? These are... interesting," Mark says. Looking over Jack laughs as he now gets a good look at them.

They couldn't be more than twenty bucks with plastic jewel flowers covering the sides of the lenses that were a cheap looking rose gold. The rims were thick and black while they still kept there overly circular lense shape.

"You are gonna look hot," Jack laughs as Mark sticks them on and looking over he sees, he actually looks really hot. "Verdict. You look like one sexy motherfucker in those gaudy Walmart glasses," Jack laughs and looking in the mirror Mark grins.

"You know what? I'm keepin' these on cause I do look really hot," Mark says giving a even bigger grin towards Jack which of course, causes him to laugh hysterically. "Still need Motrin though," He comments as he tugs the bag to his lap. "Oh my god," Mark says as he dumps the bag on his lap.

"What?"

"I forgot about these," Glancing over he sees two disposable cameras on Marks lap.

"Oh yeah! I bought those and I guess just forgot,"

"Well wherever we got them I know how to use them,"

"How?"

"I'll take a camera. You'll take a camera and when we part ways I'll take your camera and you'll take mine. To have something of each other," Mark suggest and a warm feeling spreads through Jack. He likes that idea.

"I'll take your memories and you can take mine," Jack smiles. "That's a really sweet idea actually," Shrugging Mark pulls out the teddy bear Jack also forgot about.

"Okay sap I'll take the first photo," Mark laughs as he squishes the bear to his face and snaps a photo of himself as he gives the classic duck face.

"I'm very excited to have that be my first memory," Jack laughs and Mark just lets out a simple sigh.

"It's gonna be hard," he comments and Jack doesn't even have to ask what he's talking about.

"Yeah... It is," Focusing on the road Jack tries to keep his head on his shoulders. He knows that it's going to kill him.

"We've got to make the most of it," He says a moment later and Jack cast a quick glance at him.

"Yeah. We do," He simply answers as he turns of the road to go to the nearest town.

"Ten hours," Mark says sighing again. "Only ten hours more. That doesn't even seem fair,"

"Actually now its more like seven hours," Jack mumbles and Mark groans as he lets his head fall against the window.

"We've got to find a fun activity to do. We have to," Suddenly Jack spots the tippy top of something he knows will have them both in stitches.

"I think I found something," Jack grins.

This was one of those pop up fairs. The random one put up in the middle of town right behind Wally World that was their to drag in all of the tiny town surrounding it. It was one of those kind of fairs but nonetheless the moment Jack pulled into the parking lot Mark was already beaming.

"A fair? This is perfect!" Mark shouts as he practically bust off the car door. Laughing Jack follows him, seeing he's still in his sunglasses. "I've never been to one in my life," Mark grins as Jack buys the tickets.

"Wait seriously? Never? Not even once?" He asks as they walk through the crowds of laughing families.

"Never was one near us but I saw them and read about them and always begged my parents to drive me and Ethan to one but they just never got the chance," Mark answers as he bounds along the worn out grass, suddenly tugging Jack to a fair game. The classic ladder game, that was pretty much almost impossible.

"Mark..." Jack warns as he is reluctantly pulled in to play.

"Come on," Mark begs flashing his classic puppy eyes, "For me?" He says pursing his lips. Groaning Jack rolls his eyes and gives the man working the game a dollar.

"Fine but only once," he says as Mark grins.

They quickly watch the person in front of them fall off really easily and Jack rolls his eyes in his mind. No one wins these besides a slim few.

"Okay darling you're up, so win me that bear," Mark jokes and Jack flashes him a thumbs up suddenly very motivated to actually succeed.

As Jack steps up he tries to remember Felix doing these. Not matter how much of a dick he was he always could complete these when the fair came to town. It amazed everyone and Jack had done it only once before and never again but looking back at Mark who flashes him a goofy grin he's filled with such determination he knows that he'll now do it a second time.

So taking a step up he places his foot on the bottom rung and just goes for it. The ladder swings under his weight but Jack tries to keep steady. Soon he finds himself halfway up the ladder before it swings down and has him hanging with all his might upside down. Mark lets out a disappointed noise that soon switches to surprise as he sees Jack began to climb again. Even the booth runner seems impressed.

"Go Jack!" Mark cheers much louder than before as he reaches his hand up an rings the bell loud and clear. Falling straight on his back he sees the store clerk give an impressed look while a few people clap slightly.

"What color?" They ask hand waiting to grab a colored bear. Smiling Jack looks to Mark.

"Green," Mark answers and they hand the bear to Jack who delivers it right to Mark.

"To my dearest pretty boy I award this bear to you to win over your undying love to me," Jack says making his voice deeper and more official. Playing along Mark stands straighter and takes the bear.

"Not the best darling but this'll just have to do," Mark answers coldly before flashing a massive grin as he breaks character. "No I'm just kidding this is really sweet," he says pulling Jack in for a hug before they move on and soon find themselves walking down the grass as night falls and the rainbow lights come on.

"I've only ever seen pictures of a carnival at night but never at dusk and I must say it's much sweeter," Mark comments as he nuzzles closer to Jack.

"Thats tr-," Jack starts to speak but cuts himself off as he spots the ferries wheel. The best of the carnival activity and right now it had no line. "Come on!" Jack shouts as he yanks along a confused Mark. "We've got to ride it!" He says rushing through the crowd bumping and hitting people on the way before he skids to a stop infornt of the large windmill.

"Two tickets please," Jack asks as he fishes out the money to the clerk as he practically runs Mark in.
Taking a seat Jack has a beaming smile on his face. He absolutely loved ferries wheels, even if he had to shut his eyes the entire time due to his ridiculous fear of heights. He still liked the wind whipping across his face as he felt his body raise higher from the ground. He liked that he could sense that he wasn't okay but at the same time he still knew he was.

Suddenly a large clicking sound remained Jack to squeeze his eyes tight as the ferries wheel began to spin. Spinning higher and higher until he feels it stop.

"Jack? Why do you have your eyes shut?" Mark whispers and Jack smiles.

"I'm terribly afraid of heights," he answers and he feels Mark get something out that he soon finds out is a camera as the snapping of it goes off. "Did you take a photo of me with my eyes shut?" Jack asks raising his eyebrows and Mark chuckles as he goes to rest his head against Jacks shoulder.

"Something like that,"
