Chapter 32
Chapter 32
Hello, it's me
I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet
To go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya
But I ain't done much healing
Hello, can you hear me?
I'm in Viridian dreaming about who we used to be
When we were younger and free
I've forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet
There's such a difference between us
And a million miles
Hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore
Hello, how are you?
It's so typical of me to talk about myself. I'm sorry
I hope that you're well
Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happened?
And it's no secret that the both of us
Are running out of time
So hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore
Anymore
Hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore
White felt Archy's head raise off her knee as something rustled in the trees ahead. She looked up just in time to see a Golett watching them between the forest trees. Since Golett was a somewhat artificial pokemon, it showed no emotions at the sight of the human and her Arcanine. It merely stared at them eerily, like a short statue.
The human girl smiled and told it quietly, "Hello, what are you doing here?"
The Golett continued to stare at her. A few lights on its body lit up and flickered off and on.
"Are we trespassing on your land?" She continued. "We won't be here long, just a day. We'll be gone tomorrow."
"I doubt it can understand you," Archy snorted as White got up to kneel in front of it.
"Shut up, I'm trying to make a friend that isn't a boy," White whispered from the corner of her.
"How do you know he isn't a boy?"
"Goletts' are gender less!"
But right when she began petting it, there was a loud crash and a yelp behind her. Her hand shot back and the Golett jumped up and began screeching in a robotic voice, "GOLETT, GOLETT, GOLETT!"
White whipped around to see Jo Jo scuttling over a bush while holding a ball between her pinchers. Behind her was Sky Blue, who had tripped over the bush in an attempt to catch his Galvantula. He was now lying on his stomach on the ground while Jo Jo scuttled over to Archy. The Arcanine had jumped up with surprise and his fur was on end.
The Golett was startled by the noise and began marching away, back into the trees while still chanting it's name. Anger and frustration flared inside White's chest as she looked back at Sky. He was trying to push himself of the ground with her own staff.
"What was that for?!" White snapped, rounding on the one eyed trainer.
"I didn't mean to scare your friend away!" Sky Blue muttered as he stood up and leaned on the staff. "Do you have any idea how difficult it is to catch a Galvantula with only one good leg?!"
White had only been with Sky for only a few hours and she was already going insane with annoyance. It was the day after their conversation with Blazestar, and everyone had split into their groups. The first group was Danny, Margaret, and Leia, the second group was Mira, Fiona, and N, and the final group was her, Amos, and Sky Blue. While she did have Amos to keep her company, he had went to get materials for their campsite. That meant that White had been only with only Sky Blue and Archy. Archy was more serious and calm, so he didn't bother her. Sky, on the other hand, was noisy, interruptive, and irritating.
Unable to take it anymore, White picked up her bag and swung it at Sky's face. Unfortunately, he ducked just in time and she ended up slapping Archy instead. Ignoring her Arcanine's yelp of pain, she tried to hit Sky's back with her bag. This time she was successful, and the force of her bag caused him to yell and fall on the ground.
Taking advantage of his inability to get away, White tried swinging her bag at his head. He once again avoided the hit by rolling onto his side.
"HOLD STILL, YOU LITTLE BRAT!" White shrieked as the boy scrambled to his feet and ducked behind a nearby tree.
"No, I like my face the way it is!" Sky argued.
White saw both Jo Jo and Archy duck behind the log they had been sitting on minutes before as she ran to hit Sky Blue. He ducked once again as she sung her bag at his face. However, instead of hitting the tree, she had accidentally hit Amos instead, who had just walked out of the trees carrying some wood. The trainer yelped and dropped the logs as his hands flew up to cover his nose.
"Oh gosh, I'm so sorry, Amos!" White gasped, dropping her bag as Amos ran to get his bag. His nose had started bleeding.
"I leave for ten minutes and you're both already at each other's throats!" Amos snapped as he pulled out handkerchief and put it to his bloody nose. "What did he do now?!"
"He is a loud, annoying, immature BRAT!" White howled while gesturing to Sky Blue, who had ducked behind a bush. Jo Jo had also scuttled behind the bush to hide with her trainer.
"We all know that! What's he done besides that?!"
"I try to make one friend, ONE FRIEND that isn't a human boy, and he scares it away!"
She saw Amos look at Archy for some idea of what she was saying. The Arcanine merely shrugged as he laid back down on the ground.
"What friend?" Amos asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"She tried talking to a Golett!" Sky Blue answered as he tried standing up from behind the bush now that the danger was passing. "Wasting you're time, if you ask me."
"Oh, and talking to you isn't?!" White snapped.
"Ok, ok, White, just calm down, please!" Amos told her pleadingly. "Sky, maybe you should just go for a bit. Please."
Thankfully, Sky Blue left immediately, though it was probably because he didn't want to be hit by White. It did take him a few moments to stand up, but he then took Jo Jo's rubber ball and left. The Galvantula waved one of her legs at the other two humans before following her trainer.
Trying to pass over he awkward silence, White went to pick up the wood Amos had dropped. She would occasionally risk throwing a glance at him when he was occupied with stopping the stead flow of blood coming from his nose. She felt extremely guilty about missing Sky and hitting him instead. Then again, she also felt guilty about trying to hurt Sky Blue overall. White knew she had to be a better example and stop hitting everyone who angered her, but it was just who she was.
Her heart sank at the thought of her younger self. How carefree and sweet she was before the incident. The incident that made her grow up and drop her carefree personality. She had learned the truth, the truth that life was no fairy tale.
After remembering all the pain of eight years before, White remembered how she promised Alan how she would tell Amos everything about the terrible events. It occurred to her that this was the best opportunity to tell him this. She had already decided that you'd rather not have Sky Blue with them with discussing this delicate matter. With him gone and not knowing how long he would stay out of their hair, it was probably best to take advantage of the situation.
White jumped as something nudged her elbow. She turned to see Archy standing closely behind her. He looked concerned about her behavior.
"Are you alright?" He asked her quietly.
"No," White whispered with a slight shake of her head. "I don't think I've ever been this less right."
The Arcanine glanced over at Amos before continuing, "Are you going to tell him everything now?"
"I've thought about it."
"Would you like me to stay while you tell him?"
White shook her head again and told him, "No, you should make sure Sky doesn't come back for awhile. I would like you to stay, but-"
"We can get Penelope and Hamycus to do it, maybe even Raichu or Di-Di could go," Archy insisted. "I believe I am needed here more."
The trainer was about to protest, but words failed her. She instead grunted and nodded. She set the wood in the center of the clearing before walking toward one of he farthest edges away from Amos. She took four pokeballs off her belt and released the creatures from inside.
Di-Di the Gorebyss, Raichu, Penelope the Dewott, and Hamycus the Tepig popped out with loud squeaks and cries. They all stood in front of White, awaiting their orders. Well, except Raichu. She was brushing her tail with an irritated expression on her face.
"Can you all go find Sky Blue, please?" White asked the pokemon quietly. "When you do, I want you to distract him for an hour or so. Can you do that?"
"Okie dokie!" Di-Di replied while Penelope and Hamycus squeaked and oinked happily. Raichu grunted but nodded nevertheless. Then the four pokemon scurried into the trees to search for Sky Blue and Jo Jo.
With one problem shot down, White straightened up and turned back around to walk over to Amos. She moved one of the others logs over so she could sit across from Amos.
"Is something wrong?" Amos asked as she sat down and looked up at him. "You look kinda pale."
"I'm fine," White said dismissively while Archy sat next to her. "But I do want to talk to you. It's a...a very delicate matter."
"What are you talking about?"
"I...I need to tell you something of extreme importance. What I will tell you will not be told to anyone, it will stay mainly between the two of us. The only people you can talk to about this is Sky Blue, N, Margaret, or myself. Do you understand me?"
Amos looked a little nervous and worried about this, but he said, "Of course, I guess, but what are you talking about?"
White sighed and admitted, "Look, you and others have been kept in the dark about a certain matter. It's very sensitive to Sky Blue and even myself. We rarely talk about it, but the time has come for us to tell other people about it. We decided to tell both you and Margaret about this situation."
"What situation? The only thing I'm aware of is Team Flare wanting back that Gardevoir and that girl, Fiona."
"They are not just after Fiona anymore," White told him quietly. "They are targeting Sky Blue and Margaret as well. I promised not to tell anyone about Margaret's past, but Sky Blue gave me permission to tell you about his and why Team Flare wants him."
"Don't they just want him because of his ability to make something out of almost anything? That's why Team Plasma wanted him."
"No, it's much, much deeper than that."
"Well, why then?"
White looked away from Amos and stared at a tree instead. She closed her eyes as terrible memories of eight years before overwhelmed her.
He must know, a little voice told her wisely, he can help him. It will be known sooner or later. It's better if you tell him than have him learn from a different source. Remember last time? He almost killed you after learning the truth.
The older trainer opened her eyes and looked him straight in the eyes. She then started the story and began, "Well I guess the story begins with the Aura Guardians."
*~*~*
Amos felt even more puzzled at the mention of the Aura Guardians. He lowered the handkerchief from his nose and questioned, "What do the Aura Guardians have to do with Sky Blue?"
White smiled for the first time and chuckled.
"I remember asking Ray, my deceased Lucario, the same question eight years ago," she admitted. "Do you know what Aura Guardians are?"
"Yeah, a little bit," Amos answered, trying to remember his lessons from school. "I remember learning about the Aura Guardians in school. They were supposed to be highly trained soldiers in the medieval era. Legends say that they possessed great power that helped win battles."
"Well, I guess that's some of it, but they really did possess a great power. Sadly, the Aura Guardians were hunted down and killed after one king became ruler of a region. Some of the Aura Guardians survived, so they are not completely extinct. But still, they are extremely rare. There are a few people who are aware that they are Aura Guardians, but most don't know, they will never find out their true identity. Others aren't born Aura Guardians, and are taught in the art. Most Aura Guardians today are actually pokemon, like Riolus and Lucarios."
Amos felt increasingly puzzled at this so he asked again, "But still, I don't understand what they have to..."
His voice trailed off. He felt stupid for not seeing it, but he was startled by this discovery.
"Are...are you saying that Sky Blue is actually an Aura Guardian?" He stammered.
"Well, he's not a full fledged Aura Guardian," White admitted. "But, yes, he is an Aura Guardian. He is only half Aura Guardian. We believe he would be a full Aura Guardian if it weren't for this...illness he has..."
"Illness? He's sick?"
This time, instead of White answering, it was Archy. The Arcanine straightened up and told him, "It's a mental illness that was passed down from his mother. We guess that he is the first person to have both rare DNA. However, the Aura Guardian side of him and the mentally ill side are at war inside of him. The war between them had been tolerable for the past eight years, but it's now reaching a climax."
White seemed to notice how hard Amos was processing this new shocking information. She bowed her head and said quietly, "I know it's hard to grasp. We don't have all the information either. We're still confused in a lot of areas of Sky Blue's kind. Like Archy said, he is most likely the first of his kind, but he's also the last of the Aura Guardians. I have only heard of one other human Aura Guardian, and most other Aura Guardians aren't aware of their powers. Most of the Aura Guardian population are pokemon."
"So you didn't tell us because of how rare his people are?" Amos asked while raising an eyebrow.
"That's only half of it. You and Leia are still young. We weren't sure if you could be trusted with keeping the secret. Not even Mira knows, but we don't tell her because of...personal reasons."
"I'm still confused, what does the illness have to do with anything? Sky seems fine!"
"On the outside he may look fine," Archy started seriously. "But on the inside he is fighting a war. A hopeless battle. Neither side can triumph, and neither side can be defeated. To survive, Sky needs both sides to be equal."
The Arcanine tilted his head in thought for a moment. He seemed to be thinking of how best to explain Sky Blue's predicament.
"Let's say that we have a boat in the middle of the ocean," the Legendary Pokemon explained. "Each end of the boat has a different cargo. However, the number of cargo on each side is uneven. Since one side outweighs the other, the end with the most weight sinks into the ocean, causing the entire boat to sink with it."
"So," Amos interrupted, trying to grasp the meaning of this. "You're saying that the Aura Guardian-thing and the mental illness are uneven? Each side becomes more and more powerful than the other, causing Sky Blue to 'sink'?"
"Well, yes," White agreed. "In order for Sky Blue to be balanced again, his two sides have to become even. They have to be tamed and calmed."
Amos shook his head and admitted, "I guess I understand some of this, but I'm still confused..."
White put her head in her hands at this. At this sudden movement, Archy twitched nervously and adjusted his position. For a moment, Amos thought the older trainer was crying.
She lifted her head up and muttered, "I thought we could explain this without digging up old history..."
White looked him in the eyes, and Amos could see unshed tears in hers. He didn't say anything so she could speak more freely.
"I guess it all started when I met Sky Blue," White began with a calm voice. "I had been traveling with my pokemon for a year, trying to find a new home. It had been storming, and I couldn't get off the route we were traveling on. I was alone with Pichu when a boy and Mismagius found us. They took us in and cared for us, and brought my pokemon back to health.
"I got to know the boy who took care of us while we stayed in their company. He had told me that his name was Skyler Azul, an orphan who had lost both his parents and younger sister. He had told me that after his parents died, his aunt and uncle could only afford to take care of one of the two children alongside their daughter. They decided to take in Kelly Azul, Sky Blue's sister, and wait to adopt Sky till they had more money. He did not want to live in an orphanage, so he took his possessions and ran away. His sister ended up going with him since she didn't want to be parted from him. She died a year or so later in the forest fire that had driven me and my pokemon out of our home."
Amos felt slightly annoyed. Most of this he had already knew, or at least guessed. He had no idea what this had to do with anything.
Then White continued, "My pokemon and I decided to take up their offer on staying with Sky and his Pokemon. We lived happily together. We were a family. I was raised along side Sky Blue, and we were taught basic human education together. We also learned how to defend ourselves. That's actually how it all began. Ray had been teaching us how to defend ourselves from enemies. I had already shown great skill at the subject, but Sky, not surprisingly, had a difficult time defending himself. Ray tried using a technique of a sensitive nature to force Sky into defending himself. He tried once, but failed. On the second time, he was so overcome by rage and fear that he was able to use the attack Aura Sphere."
"Aura Sphere?" Amos repeated. "But that's a pokemon attack, isn't it?"
"Yes, but it's also an attack that can be learned by human Aura Guardians. Aura Sphere is an attack where the user digs up the deep feelings and memories, or his aura, and let's it loose, resulting in an Aura Sphere. Ray was concerned by this. Apparently he was too young to even know how to do such an attack, even for an Aura Guardian.
"A few weeks after that training session, I witnessed part of Sky Blue's darker nature. Our caretaker, a Mismagius whom we called Missy, passed away after being infected by a plague that killed hundreds of young and old pokemon. She was the closest Sky and I had to a true mother. When she died, I tried to talk to Sky on my own. I tried to comfort him, tell him that we would be alright. He didn't like that...he didn't like that at all."
The young trainer watched as White closed her eyes and touched her cheek gently with her real hand. Amos had a good idea what happened, and he felt disgusted by it. He didn't want to hear anymore, but he knew that White wouldn't be telling him any of this if it wasn't important.
"Sky felt ashamed of himself after that," White croaked after a moment. "He became depressed after Missy's death. Rapi had tried to be a mother to him, but he would push her away. He was so deep into his depression that we began to worry that he would take more drastic actions. Ray had his suspicions that Sky may try to end his life."
"And did he?"
"Well, if he did, we never heard about it. I think he might've tried once. I remember one time he disappeared for a few hours and he came back with Ray. He never said what happened .
"A few weeks after Missy's death, we finally fell on a fortune. One stormy night, me, Sky Blue, and some of the other Pokemon got lost in town. I was alone in an alleyway hiding in a box when a man came and found me. I didn't recognize him, I never saw his face. His took off his coat, and he gave it to me. Actually, it was this one," she added, pulling at her turquoise overcoat. "Even after all these years, I still haven't quite grown into it. Anyway, he just handed it to me and left. A few minutes after he left, Sky Blue and the others found me and I told them about my experience. I then put my hands in the coat pockets and found a wallet. We found more than one thousand dollars inside."
"One thousand dollars?!" Amos echoed with shock. "Who gives away a thousand dollars like that?!"
"We wondered the same thing. For the next few days, we went around town and asked people if they knew anyone who owned the overcoat in order to return the money. Nobody knew anyone with this coat, so we kept the money and I got to keep the coat."
"What did you do with all that money?"
"Used it on the stuff we needed, like food, new clothes, supplies. A good chunk of it was spent on resources, but we set aside some of it to splurge on. After quite a few "family" discussions, we decided to leave Unova. Not permanently, just a trip. So, after a week of planning, we finally left the grotto and started our trip.
"We first went to pick up a new member of the family in Undella Town, the place where we would be departing the region. Purr, my Liepard, had been left with a group of Pokemon while she was a Purrlion. They were able to fulfill her needs better than we were. So we picked her up and were able to afford two tickets to a far off."
Amos didn't need to be told what region that was. He then said aloud, "Kalos."
"Exactly," White affirmed. "We only planned on staying for a week. We went from Undella Town to Ambrette Town. The beginning of the trip was alright. We traveled from Ambrette Town to Lumiose City. We weren't going to every city, but we planned on visiting our top three. We only got to see Lumiose City, unfortunately."
White's expression grew darker at this. Amos knew that they were getting closer to the reason behind this private discussion.
"We planned on staying in Lumiose for just about two days. On our second day there, me and Sky wanted to explore every inch of that city. We kept most of our Pokemon in their pokeballs. Only Pichu and Sky Blue's Eevee stayed out. We wandered into a very dangerous part of the city without knowing it. We were in a dark alleyway when we were confronted by a group of boys. They were about thirteen years old, three years older than Sky."
The older trainer stood up at this point. Amos waited patiently as she paced around the clearing twice. She seemed to be gathering her energy to admit this one part of the story. White then came back to Amos, but kept her back to him. Archy had also looked uncomfortable. He had bowed his head and stared at his large paws.
White then spoke again, her voice cracking as she talked.
"They at first wanted to battle after seeing all our pokeballs," she said horsely. "When we refused, they then ordered us to drop the pokeballs and give up our pokemon. They got angry when we told them we would do no such thing..."
Amos knew she was definitely beginning to cry as she continued on, "T-They attacked us, and at that moment I forgot everything Ray ever taught me. I-I was petrified by fear, I had no idea what to do. B-But...but then h-he protected me... Sky Blue attacked them. It was one against seven, but he beat them all. Oh, it was so scary...it was like he became an animal. He bit, scratched, and hit everyone of them. One of the boys ran for help. Sky had lost all sense. Ray escaped from his pokeball to stop him, but Sky overpowered him...and then that's when he began to use his aura. While he threw as many Aura Spheres at them as possible, he was releasing a powerful energy around the alleyway... he wouldn't stop screaming..."
White then turned to face Amos. Large tears were streaming down her face thick and fast. She was losing control of her own emotions, and it startled Amos. He rarely ever saw her cry.
"It was all my fault!" She cried. "I just hid in a corner while Sky fought those sons of an Absol! I didn't try to help! I was so terrified..."
"Whitney," Amos started as he stood up and put his hand on her shoulder. "That wasn't your fault. Anyone would be scared in a situation like that. You were like nine years old! You were still a child!"
"Sky Blue got in all this trouble because of my cowardice!"
"Anyone who wouldn't be scared in a situation like that is stupid or lying. Whit, your behavior wasn't that much out of ordinary."
"We've been telling her that for years," Archy growled. "She doesn't listen to us. Whitney, calm down and sit."
White sniffed and sat down next to her Arcanine while Amos sat back down as well. He was finding most of the story frightening, and he wasn't even there when it happened. He couldn't put his brain around Sky Blue hurting people. It was impossible and unthinkable.
"I'll take over, shall I?" Archy began grimly. "Well what White said isn't entirely true. She did help Sky. All that power made him weak, very weak. From what I heard from Ray, he collapsed and had, well...a fit. He sobbed and screamed on the ground, but White tried comforting him. She was the only one who could get close to him. Then the boy that went for help came back with several officers."
The Legendary Pokemon paused as White began sobbing again. He then continued on, "When they tried taking him away from White, he attacked them as well. He had also gained a remarkable strength from his powers. He had the strength of at least two grown men. They ended up sedating him because he caused so much trouble. He was then kept in the local police station after that. He was too dangerous to be held anywhere else. I don't really know that much after that."
"I was with him when he woke up," White whispered, though tears continued to pour down. "Sky was terrified. He didn't remember anything that he had down, the last thing he remembered was confronting the boys. A short while later we were told that their would be a trail for Sky because of his behavior. The boys that attacked us had been given their punishment, but Sky had attacked the officers, so that offense was added to his trail.
"I stayed with him until his trial...I don't think people liked me being there. They kept trying to talk to Sky Blue alone, but I was always there. He didn't want to be left alone, so I stayed with him until I had no choice but to leave. It was horrible seeing that side of him...he would act like an animal...he lashed out at anyone who posed a threat to him or myself..."
Amos remembered the file he and Mira found. One of the files included the paper of Sky Błue's trial. He already knew how it ended.
"Since Sky Blue acted out of self defense, they dropped most charges," White said quietly. "But they were concerned about how powerful and mentally unstable he had been the past few days. They then decided that he would need to be cared for by mental health specialists at a hospital. They... they told me that unless he showed some improvement, it was possible that he may spend a good chunk of his life there...
"They were going to move him to a mental institution in a week, giving me only a few days to figure out a way to save my best friend. Ray had left after I told him the judge's decision, and the other Pokemon didn't know how to help. I had never felt so alone...
"Then the day before Sky would be transferred to the hospital, after I had finished visiting him, I found that Ray had returned. He told me everything that I have told you. He explained about how Sky was an Aura Guardian and how he was fighting a battle inside himself. He told me that he had the means to help Sky Blue return to normal, but Sky wasn't allowed to be outside and Ray wasn't allowed inside the station.
"I left him went onto the nearest route to...to release some of my frustration. Then I found out how Sky could escape."
White smiled slightly and continued, "I met two baby Pokemon, a Ralts and an Abra, and they told me that they had ran away from their homes. They wanted to help me get Sky back, while in return they wanted to stay with us. We had to work fast, so we didn't really plan well. I smuggled them into the police station and got them into Sky's cell. I had planned on teleporting us out by using Alan and Shane's teleportation skills. Sky instead told me to take Shane and the others to the Route 8. He would take Alan and teleport in a few hours so nobody would know that I was involved. I followed his plan and took everyone to a Hidden Grotto on Route 8. We waited for hours, but we didn't hear anything. Then, around midnight, Sky Blue and Alan came to the grotto. They said they had taken a long time because doctors had come to prepare him for the move by telling him about the hospital.
"Once he had rested, Ray, along with Shane and Alan, were able to put a mental block around his thoughts. It prevented him from remembering how to use aura and to stop him from feeling the effects of the war raging inside of him. And that, we at least thought, was the end of it."
White looked up at as she finished her story. Her eyes met with Amos's. He felt empty after hearing the story of Sky Blue's secret past. He actually felt a mixture of feelings. He felt horrified, disgusted, frightened, and scared of the power Sky possessed. But one question was still on his mind.
"What went wrong?" He finally asked, unable to hold it back anymore. "Why did it stop working?"
The older trainer raised an eyebrow before answering, "Ray wasn't supposed to die. He was the only one who could sense the aura within him and the only one who knew what he was from the beginning."
"Ray actually knew how to prevent these lapses entirely," Archy intervened. "But he was unable to proceed since Sky Blue was so young. He was the only one who had an inkling on how to do it. He never confided in his students, Alan and Shane, how to do the proceeder, so when he died, the knowledge on how to silence the war inside Sky died with him.
"Now, eight years later, the battle inside him is still raging, and the barrier around his mind is breaking. He is beginning to feel the effects of insanity, and we don't know how to help him. What we do know is that once that barrier breaks, he'll be exploding out aura while at the same time losing all common sense. He'll either physically or mentally die, meaning we will lose who he really is forever."
"Then why are you telling me this?" Amos asked with frustration. "How can I even help?"
"During the week before Sky was supposed to be transferred to that hospital, Ray disappeared to an unknown place," White informed him with a much more serious voice. "He never told us where he went, but he came back with the same knowledge we have told you. We have reason to believe that he visited a tribe of Psychic and Fighting Types. Three tribes, a tribe of Ralts and its evolutionary forms, a tribe of Abras, and a tribe of Riolus. The tribes are still here, in Kalos, today. We are hoping that they can help Sky before it's too late. We know the location, but it's getting there that will be the problem.
"Sky Blue is already losing control. When Margaret, Sky Blue, and N were on Route 8, N provoked Sky about the incident we discussed. Margaret said he became animal-like and tried attacking him. Alan was able to close the crack in the barrier but we can guarantee that there will be more. We've been told that he only has a few weeks before the barrier breaks.
"Then there is the problem of Team Flare. If they didn't know Sky is an Aura Guardian before the journey to Route 8, they'll undoubtedly know now. As you might already know, Sky's group was temporarily captured by Team Flare. They took samples of their blood to check their DNA. If they are reading it correctly, they'll find he's part Aura Guardian. I can think of a number of things they could do with an Aura Guardian, and none of them are good. We need to make sure to avoid a confrontation with them."
"But how can I help?" Amos repeated with more irritation.
White scowled and explained, "We would like you to be able to help us prevent Sky from hurting anyone. Besides you and me, N and Margaret are the only ones who know. That means we have to try and make sure Sky stays himself and prevent him from hurting others. Alan and Shane are also helping since they are the ones keeping the barrier in place, but when it fails, we need at least one person present that knows what's going on. Amos, I know this is a lot to ask, but could you help me protect Sky? I don't want it to be like last time where he almost got sent away. This time we know who can help him, and we have a location to go, but I can't do this alone! Please, Amos, can you help us?"
Amos looked up and his eyes met White's. This obviously meant a lot to her, and he understood that. Sky was annoying, loud, and now possibly dangerous, but he was still their friend. White knew him better than anyone, and he knew she would be heartbroken if anything happened to him, no mater how annoying he was. His stomach squirmed, and he felt the occasional pang of jealousy every time he thought about White and Sky's strong bond.
Ignoring the rest of his ill feelings, Amos finally sighed, "Alright, I'll try to help, but I don't think I'll have the same effect as you do."
White also sighed, but it was with relief. She wiped her eyes with her coat sleeve before saying quietly, "Thank you, thank you so much. It means a lot to us."
He was about to say 'no problem', but the words died in his throat. He began thinking about Mira, how terrified she was after seeing all those things about Sky Blue in that file. He felt guilty after seeing how distant she had suddenly become with Sky and even White. Mira, Sky Blue, and White were family, they only had each other. He couldn't let their bonds crumble away like this.
He had to come clean, he had to tell White the truth.
"White, I have to tell you something," Amos blurted out before he even figured out what he would tell her.
"What is it?"
Amos took a deep intake of breath before telling her slowly, "White, do you remember when you argued with Deborah about if she read that folder?"
"Yes, why?"
"Well Deborah wasn't the only one who read it. Mira and I read it too."
White's face turned pale. Archy also looked uncomfortable and nervous at this piece of information.
"What?" White whispered, her lips barely moving.
"We found it when leaving Ambrette Town," Amos continued quickly. "We were going to give it to Mira's Spritzee so she could give it back to you, but Deborah found it. She read it too, but promised not to tell anyone. She decided to give it back to you herself so we didn't have to get in trouble..."
Amos watched White, who had stood up and began pacing around the clearing. He thought for once that she would actually began beating him up like she did with Sky. All he could do was wait for her reaction.
"Well I guess I always knew she would find out someday," White muttered as she sat back down. "What did you already know before I told you all of this?"
"Just that he was mentally ill and was going to be transferred to a, well, asylum..."
"I see..."
After a moment of silence, White then asked, "Is Mira ok?"
"What?"
"Mira, how is she? How did she take it?"
"Pretty well, I guess, she was a little shocked but...White, I really am sorry..."
"It's not your fault," White told him dismissively. "It's mine. I should've just been honest from the beginning. Thank you for telling me this. I'll figure out what to do later. It's going to be getting dark soon. I'll try and start getting a fire going."
She then stood up again and walked over to the wood she piled up in the center of the clearing. Archy glanced at Amos before accompanying his trainer to help with the fire. Amos stayed where he was. His mind was racing with everything that White had told him. He still felt sick and concerned about Sky Blue's past. He also feared for him if he really could die from the aura and sickness.
This trip is becoming more and more like my first journey, Amos thought to himself as he got up to help White. Hopefully nobody will die this time...
