Weaknesses
Adelynn and Haruhi exit the room where they had their check up. Haruhi sighs sadly.
"Don't worry, he's just a sexist prat." Adelynn scoffs.
"I'm going to get changed." Haruhi said as she drifts down the halls. Adelynn shakes her head and walks to her room to find her own change of clothes. She enters and as she does, walks calmly to her wardrobe and shivers at the cold draft the window let in. She looks to her left and scowls at the window and walks to it, locking it shut. She looks up at the sky to see storm clouds brewing. She sighs, thinking about Haruhi and how she was going to have to calm her down during the storm. She turns back to her wardrobe to see a figure leaning against it.
"Hi Ross."(English) She greets boredly and walks into the bathroom, leaving it particularly open.
"You're lucky I got up there first." He scoffs. "If the others had seen you break that guys neck your cover would be blown, and my paycheque doubled."
"I sorted it didn't I? I got rid of all three and no one got hurt." Adelynn said as she strips off her clothes. "Get me an outfit, will ya'."
"Haruhi got hurt. If them prats out there got emotional over her injuring herself and complained to their parents we'd get shit for it." She could hear him shuffle through draws and slam them, showing how pissed he was.
"I don't know why you're annoyed ? They don't even like you." Adelynn shrugs as she jumps in the shower quickly.
"That's because they know their parents payed me to stick with them." She heard clothes hit the floor.
"They what?!" Adelynn shouts as she doesn't bother with shampoo and jumps out the shower quickly. "So I had to make a bond with them, go through the rules of undercover ops, again, and you don't because they know." Adelynn huffs in disbelief as she pulls on the white shoulder less top and tight blue jeans.
"Exactly that, they need to be able to trust you and you did that. If they find out then they'll be hostile towards both of us." Ross informs her. Adelynn sighs as she walks out the bathroom and looks at the full mirror.
"How am I meant to conceal a weapon in this?" She asks with a frown.
"You're not. I carry the weapons from now on. You're best at hand-to-hand anyway." Ross said as he pushed himself off the wall. Then he sends her a smirk, one that managed to get on her nerves. "So you remember me yet?"
"From school? I know you were in my special ops classes." She drys her hair with a towel. Then she felt hands on her sides, lightly dancing up her sides. She suppressed her shiver and grabs his shoulder, wedging him between her and the wall, but it didn't help. He was still taller. He grins down at her.
"Remember your first lesson? With the older ones I mean." He smiles smuggle. Adelynn nods, scanning him over for anything. "Then you'll remember that their was only two players left then." He raises an eyebrow, watching the flicker of recognition in her eyes. She nods as she steps back from him with a slightly look of surprise.
"No wonder why I don't recognise you, you had blonde hair then." She shakes her head as a light laugh slips out her lips. "Middle school was the best." She smiles as she remembers being told to fight all her class mate, survival of the finest, and only her and Ross were left.
"Yes, all we had to worry about was who had the best scores and who to beat next. And our other missions. The darker side of life is so much easier than the posh one." Ross chuckles. They both lock eyes, both with a faint smiles on their lips as bright blue clashes with a dull blue. Ross looks down at her, the girl of 16, he himself 17, but yet she looked so mature, as if she had the weight of the world on her shoulders as well as the wise air around her. He leans forward, as quickly switches their positions. He holds himself up by placing a hand by her head, and leans down so his shaggy hair touches her forehead as she scans his every move, waiting for just the right moment to make her move. He smirks as she rolls her eye.
"You know you love me, little birdie." He coos in her ear. She chuckles as a light smile plays on her lips, but her eyes stung holes into him.
"You wish, pretty boy." She runs her hand up his neck, and tilts his head up so he stares up at the ceiling. His eye twitches in annoyance. It was bloody annoying on his behalf when he tried to tease her, because she could always one up him. He looks down at her, only to find her gone and the door clicking closed behind her. He growls under his breath. She had locked him in. So now he'd have to climb out the window.
Takashi, Mitsuki and Adelynn quickly got dinner ready for everyone. Just as they set the crabs out on the table Kyoya enters.
"Ta da! The crabs are all boiled!" Mitsuki smiles.
"I'm sorry that there aren't any maids here now." Kyoya apologies.
"We're the ones that are staying in your villa Kyo-chan." Mitsuki tells him.
"Takashi, go call Haru-chan in." Mitsuki orders. The twins sigh. Adelynn looks over to them in questioning. "It's awfully gloomy out there, huh? It looks like it might rain."
"Speaking of gloomy. . . There's someone even more gloomy in here than the darkness outside. If you're going to mope like that. . . Then you shouldn't of picked a fight with them." Hikaru comments.
"You're right Hikaru, but it's not our fault he's incompetent." Adelynn shrugs. Tamaki humph's in the corner, staring out at the rain as his pout grew larger in size.
"You look nice Adelynn, but it doesn't seem like you." Karou comments as he looks her over. Adelynn smiles.
"That's because I didn't, Ross picked it for me." She said. Even though the twins and Kyoya looked calm, they were imagining Ross being stuck outside in the rain.
"Why?" Hikaru asks as he crosses his arms, a eyebrow raised.
"After I heard that he took out them me after they attacked us, I had to thank him. It turns out we have a lot in common, and not just the fact I'm American." Adelynn chuckles.
"But your still Japanese, and your nothing like him, he's-"
"Hikaru, I suggest you rethink your wording." Kyoya interrupts, his glasses flashing. Hikaru scowls and leans further back in his chair. The doors to the dinning room open and in walks Haruhi who's in a pink dress.
"Haruhi, did you buy that dress yourself?" The twins ask as they look at her in awe.
"My dad must have replaced my bags for me. He always wants me to wear stuff like this." Haruhi raises her hands to cross over her chest. The twins grin as they stick their thumbs up.
"Go dad!" They cheer.
"You look lovely Haruhi." Adelynn smiles.
"Haru-chan, you look cute." Mitsuki compliments. Ross soon enters and they all seat themselves at the table. Mori, Mitsuki, Adelynn, Haruhi and Tamaki on one side and Kyoya, Karou, Hikaru and Ross along the other.
"Bit stuff in here, huh?" Hikaru inquires. Adelynn tries to keep the smile off her face, finding it funny.
"Let's eat, Haru-chan!" Mitsuki sweat drops as he watches the tense atmosphere radiate off Haruhi and Tamaki. "I'm sure the crabs we caught today are delicious." Haruhi picks up the legs, snapping them one by one, making Tamaki stiffen with every crunch or crack of the food.
"These crabs. . . Are in-crab-ible. Get it?" Haruhi laughs at her own joke as Adelynn sniggers.
"Aren't you eating too much, to say the least?" Tamaki asks, watching Haruhi cautiously.
"I thought you weren't speaking to us?" Haruhi and Adelynn chime, both of them supreme ing their smiles as they chomp on crab legs. Just as Haruhi snaps a leg a piece flys off and hits Tamaki in the face. Adelynn coughs as she laughs and grabs her drink, trying to calm herself down. She peers at Tamaki from behind Haruhi and smirks, annoying Tamaki.
"Y-you're not being cute." Tamaki stutters as he shrinks away from Haruhi. Mitsuki looks at both of them, his jaw hanging open. Haruhi ignores him. Tamaki scowls and slams his hand down on the table. "Okay, I get it. You're not going to reconsider what you've done. Fine then, I'm going to bed. Kyoya, show me to my room." Tamaki said as he got up and storms out the room.
"Alright. Well, if you'll excuse me too. . ." Kyoya said as he stood up too. Once they both leave the room, Haruhi puts the crab back on the table and calms down.
"Maybe he's right, maybe I should learn karate." Haruhi said. Adelynn peeks at her through the corner of her eye, continuing in eating and not speaking up. It wouldn't be a bad idea.
"So that's it. He got to you huh?" The twins sigh.
"It wouldn't hurt you to learn marshal arts or something." Hikaru told her.
"But it's not like we're going to force you on it." Karou said.
"Besides, that's not the issue here."
"We were all a little worried about how reckless you acted, you too Adelynn." Hikaru said.
"What do you mean?" They both ask. Adelynn looks at Haruhi, she could see were Haruhi went wrong, but not herself.
"We didn't cause you guys any trouble or anything." Haruhi said. Both widths sigh as they shrug their shoulders.
"That's not true Haru-chan, I think you should apologise, 'Kay?" Mitsuki smiles. "You made us all worry, especially Tama-chan. I think you need to apologise to him the most."
"So you were worried about me, but why?" Haruhi asks. Everyone one sighs. She was too dense.
"You're hopeless." The twins say as they hand their heads.
"You think. . . Guys I'm really sorry." Haruhi apologise sadly. The twins and Mitsuki grab her in a hug as coddle her. But Haruhi's face turns green as her stomach makes noises.
"I'm not feeling so good." Haruhi groans as she runs out the room with Takashi and Mitsuki trailing behind her. Adelynn shakes her head with a sigh. The rest of the boys look to Adelynn once Haruhi disappeared.
"What about you Adelynn?-" "- you made us worried too." The twins walk over to her.
"I was fine. I had it under control." Adelynn shrugs.
"But we were worried, we're your friends, we don't want you to get hurt." Karou adds. They walk behind her, but only Ross was still sat, staring at her and able to see the guilt in her eyes. Ross roles his eyes. Adelynn looks down at her plate sadly.
"I still don't understand." She repeats.
"Adelynn." Ross spoke as he leant back in his chair with a scowl. "We talked, we-"
"Stop with the 'we'. It's sickening." Hikaru cut him off with a glare.
"Hikaru?" Adelynn questions, unsure of what to say by his sudden snap.
"Adelynn's our friend. She's known us longer. You know nothing about her. You may think you do, but we mean more to her than you ever will." Hikaru tells him. Adelynn squeezes her eyes shut. Hikaru looks at her expectantly as does his twin and Ross.
"Go on then. Pick Adelynn. Those you care for most." Ross challenges with a smirk. Adelynn rose from her chair and walks towards Hikaru, her face covered by her hair. She stops in front of him, her hand holding her arm as she rubs it shyly. Ross was waiting for her to come out with the crap she spouts and make them see him in a different light, make them trust him by spouting how it wasn't fair as she didn't know everyone equally, the normal shit that he was terrible at compared to her. But he widens his eyes in surprise as Adelynn hugs Hikaru. It differently surprised everyone else, too.
"I-I'm sorry for making you worry. . . I just had Haruhi's safety in mind. I didn't want her to get hurt so I jumped in after her. . . I-I . . ." Then she mumbles something incoherent as she buried her face into his shoulder. Hikaru gently pats her back and his face was a jumble of things. Karou tilts his head at his twin. Hikaru mouths 'I think she just needs a hug.' And ushered his brother over. Karou walks up behind her and hugs her and his brother, giving her a reassuring squish between both of them. Ross gets up and walks around the back of Hikaru to Adelynn's eyes held everything she was feeling. The mixes of emotions she held. The fear, the surprise and other odd emotions. Ross knew this too well. She took after her dad very much. And that was bad. Both twins let go of her and she stands still with her cheeks pink.
"You better?" Karou asks as he pats her back. She hums and nods, not trusting her voice.
"Can I ask something?" Adelynn asks them both, looking at both of them. And Hikaru and Karou nod nervously. She looked so nervous and shy, as if she would break any moment, the total opposite to her usually cocky self.
"Would you still trust me, even if. . . I dunno. I just feel like, you guys don't exactly, except me?" It came out as a weird question that she couldn't put into words.
"You mean, will we ever leave you?" Karou smiles knowingly with a smile. "Of course Adelynn. We'd never leave you, you're one of us." Karou smiles as does Hikaru.
"Yeah, you can't get rid of use. We're best friends." Hikaru chuckles. Adelynn sends them a beaming smile.
"Thanks guys." She grins as she walks confidently out. The twins stay in their spot for a second, and look at each other and shrug.
"PMSing." They conclude in unison. Adelynn drops her smile into a scowls as she walks down the dark hallway, out of sight of the twins and turns to glare at the looming shadow.
"You said yourself I needed them to trust me." Adelynn crosses her arms, huffing at him; knowing exactly what he was thinking.
"It not me that's developed feelings for any of them. It's you who would break once they find out your just their bodyguard and get paid to be with them. They'll treat you as badly as they do me. . . And they'll leave you. All by yourself." Ross uses her words against her, looking at her boredly.
"So not true, but what are you getting at?" Adelynn growls.
"It was in your file. Abandonment issues. Your scared to make a bond with others, because if they break down your walls and realise what you are, you'll crumble. I can't have someone protecting this group if they're going to break down." Ross said as he inspects his nails. "Which is why you stayed away from people in middle school. Why you refused to work with others and op'ed for solos. You can't risk having an emotional connection with people like you did with your mum, you know, the one who left you." Adelynn laughs dryly.
"I have no emotional connection to them. I don't care if I get moved onto another job." She scowls. Ross shakes his head with an amused smile.
"Let's make a bet then, if you aren't emotionally involved with any of them, that involves Haruhi, then I'll leave you alone and return all your pay." Ross smirks. "But if you are, then you'll have to tell them everything, how you are their bodyguard and ordered to stay by them by their parents, how you tricked them and leave them. Forever." Ross negotiates.
"And how do we test this?" Adelynn sneers, annoyed with him.
"If you panic when one of them disappears-"
"Of course I'll panic, I'm their bodyguard." Adelynn stuck her noise up at him.
"No. You always keep a cool head, that's what made you such a good agent." Ross grins, knowing he'd caught her. Adelynn pouts as she averts her eyes. "If you panic, or end up crying if one disappears on you then it proves it, it proves you care." Adelynn thought for a moment, then stepped forwards with an air of confidence that made Ross waver. She puts her hand out, wanting shake and make the deal. Ross looks hers over. The girl who'd beaten all the records at their old school, whom could kill without a regret or thinking it was abnormal, the girl who'd always been above him. He scowls at her, if he wanted to break her badly and get back at her for being reprimanded on his last job that was double the pay of this one. He puts his hand out and shakes. Sealing the deal.
"But I'll win. I'll prove to you I'm just as cold as ice has ever been. And you'll have to leave, such a shame really, I really enjoyed watching the boys rip into you." Adelynn smiles slyly. "Bye Pretty boy." She coos as she sashays down the hall.
Adelynn had gotten so caught up in the twins and Ross she forgot all about Haruhi and her fear of thunder, so when she sprints down the hall in search for Haruhi she is very shocked to see the boys all crowded around a door. The twins grin as they see Adelynn, just thinking of what she'll do to their boss in anger. Adelynn walks up to them.
"What's happening?" She asks as she peers in the room. Then her face went blank as she stares at Tamaki who looked like he was caught red handed putting his hand in a cookie jar as Haruhi sat on the floor in front of him, by the bed, with a blindfold on and cotton buds in her ears. Adelynn sticks her nose up as she steps into the room, a disapproving look on her face that made Tamaki panic, thinking she too was going to rip into his for doing something he didn't. She stopped, leant down so her face was levels with Tamaki's as a shit eating grin appears on her face.
"Never knew you were into bondage, but can you not do that here. I need to have some girl time with Haruhi." Adelynn said as she pushes Tamaki out and takes the silly things off Haruhi before putting headphones on her ears and a sleeping mask, making it more comfortable for Haruhi.
"Wow boss, you got off easy there." The twins said in unison.
"I did do anything!" Tamaki shouts as the twins skip down the hallway, singing insults. Tamaki walks to his bedroom fuming, annoyed immensely at everyone. He slams his door as he falls into his pillow and grumbles.
"You look stupid." A voice told him, making Tamaki jump.
"Oh, it's just you." Tamaki sighs in relief.
"You found out what Haruhi's weakness is, and only someone you're close to would share their secrets. You won." Ross comments dryly. Tamaki's cheeks couldn't help but turn pink.
"What are you doing in my room?" Tamaki inquires, feeling uncomfortable with the boy that had supposedly put two men in hospital and the other in the bottom of the sea.
"You know Haruhi's weakness, so I thought I should tell you Adelynn's, just in case it ever came up." Ross shrugs. Tamaki perks up.
"I'd love to know!" He smiles brightly, thinking of daddy daughter bonding with his most troublesome 'child'.
"Well Adelynn. . . Is deathly afraid. . . Of being alone." Ross said as he turns his back to Tamaki and looks out the window as rain droplets raced to the bottom.
"But, not to be mean, but isn't she normally alone. She seems to hate being with us sometimes and likes her peace." Tamaki said in confusion.
"Reading alone, riding the bus alone, walking home alone; she likes this because it gives her time to think and set her mind free. But when she is with someone, and they disappear, or simply tell her what a pain she is to be around, replace her with another, it kills her inside. She may like being alone Tamaki, but she doesn't like being lonely." Ross explains. "And it's my job as a bodyguard to keep all my clients safe, that includes their mental state frankly." Ross sighs tiredly.
"Client? You mean Adelynn knows that you are protecting us?" Tamaki asks.
"She knows about me protecting her like Haruhi knows. But I get paid more on her part." Ross shrugs.
"You always speak so mysteriously Ross, I'm sure if you smiled more and showed you kin-"
"Shut it you prat, I'm telling you this just in case I can't interfere in a situation. As the host club King you have authority over everyone else and they'll listen to you, even if they don't act like it." Ross snaps at him. "I'm just covering all my bases."
"For I second there I was worried, I thought you liked my daughter." Tamaki let's out a relieved breath. Ross glares holes into Tamaki that makes him shrink back. "Not that there's anything wrong with you I was just saying that my daughter-"
"Shut the fuck up before I knock you unconscious."
