Chapter 17 - It ripped like a paper target

"Are we there yet?" Clarissa groaned in the back of the jeep.

"No, will you stop asking that?" Tyler growled as he turned another corner.

"No, I won't. I swear this is the longest trip we have taken to get to a Decepticon. Why couldn't we fly?" She continued to complain. Her arms lay lazily over her weapon as she stared out the window.

"We went over this, Rave!" The two men up front yelled.

She ducks down, a little scared of being yelled at. Tyler was one thing, but when Fowler joined, she decided it was time to shut up for now. No one had a sense of humor this morning. They are all to focused on this supposed con sighting. This is the third one sighting this month. Lucky for her, the first two have turned out to be duds. So, she didn't have to get in contact with team Bee, no matter how bad she wanted too. She did call Sideswipe everyday or at least tried too. It is difficult to when she is staying in the same apartment building as her coworkers. She had to be careful when she was on the phone with him. Making sure no one can over hear her.

She is sure this is just another fake call. Just another paranoid human that thinks they saw a giant robot fall apart in to five giant spiders then they crawled away. Where do people think of this stuff? This time she didn't even bother to warn the team. It just sounded way to fake for her to get worked up about. Though just because she knew she could not let them know, she still sent a warning text to Sideswipe. Which he replied with, 'Well I hope it is real, just so I can see you.' The smile lights up on her face just thinking about it.

It is about an hour later when the crew drive up on the supposed scene. They park a way away as to not spook the con. With one more check of their gear a small group, including Clarissa, make their way to the sight. They are the group to go and scope out the area, making sure it is an actual con or just a dud. The group stays low to the ground, weapons at the ready. This is the only time she has a serious face on. She keeps her eyes straight ahead and moves forward. She leads the group closer and closer. They close in on what looks like an old steel mill. The area around them silent. Not even a bird is chirping. There are no animals scurrying about. Way to quiet for her tastes.

She sends signals to the group to be cautious and close in on the building. As they moved closer they started to hear some strange noises and talking. It almost sounded like hooves on pavement, but more than four legs. Then there is the clinking of metal, drilling, like something is being built inside. Clarissa got to a window and leaned up on her tiptoes to see inside. The group behind her, helping her. The sight she sees, is not what she was expecting.

Inside the main facility she could see four maybe five spider like Decepticons, working on what could possibly be a rocket or a space shuttle. Each of them working together to get it complete. She kept watching for a few more moments before calling it. They would have to go back and get the rest of the group. There is no doubt it's a Decepticon, with the symbol and everything.

"Go back and let the others know that there is indeed a Con inside. There are five of them and they look like spiders." The other three look at her like she is crazy, at this point she wished she was.

"Spiders?" one in the group asks.

"Yes, now git. I'll keep an eye on it from a distance, in case it decides to leave." She whispers the order and the three listen and move slowly back to the rest of the crew.

Once she is unable to see them anymore, she pulls out her cell phone as she moves to a nearby bush. She doesn't want to be caught by the con. She slides in on her knees, pulling out her cell phone and quickly dialing Bee's com link number.

On the first ring, he answers, "Got something for us Clarissa?"

"Yes, it is five spider like cons and they are building what looks like a rocket. I'm assuming to use to get off Earth. My crew is getting ready now to attack. I'll send you the coordinates and get here fast." She hung up and proceeded to send the coordinates.

She stays back, watching the area, waiting for the bots. Her crew would be a little bit longer as they are going to be mapping out a plan. The bots don't have a lot of time, but if they can quickly get in and get the con while its surprised, they should be able to detain it and leave. Soon a large green and blue vortex opened up in the middle of the opening. While swirling around, Bumblebee, Strongarm, Sideswipe and Grimlock step through. Bee sees the building immediately and tells the other to surround it. Two go in the front and two in the back. Sideswipe barely hears him as he is looking for a special someone.

"Sideswipe! Pay attention." Bee orders.

"But..." Sideswipe starts.

"Yes, I know, but we don't have a lot of time." Bee doesn't wait for him to answer and he runs to the front of the building.

It doesn't stop Sideswipe from taking a look around some more before catching up. Clarissa watches from behind the bush. She wants to jump and run to him. She wants to yell to him, telling him she's here, but it would only cause problems for the team. They need to stay focused on the matter at hand. She watches them surround the building. Bee counts to three and the group charge in. From her location, Clarissa can't see what's happening inside, but she can hear the ruckus its causing. The blasters going off, metal crashing together. One of the spiders runs out of the building. Sideswipe running after it. Clarissa pulls up her weapon and aims at the creepy crawly, just to give Sideswipe the upper hand. She shoots the bug in the leg, her bullet ripping through it.

It screams at the pain of its damaged leg. It even stops Sideswipe, he stares at the damage her bullet caused. Wires hang and dangle with is torn leg. It falls to its side, screaming for help. Sideswipe turns his helm in the direction the bullet came from. There Clarissa stood in shock. Never actually seeing what the new bullets could do. This was her first time ever having to use it. She didn't expect it to rip through the con like that. She only wanted to slow it down by the slight ping it she thought it would make.

"Clarissa?" The question didn't need to be voiced.

"Sideswipe, I...I didn't know...I didn't know it would do that. I was just trying to slow him down." She cried out.

"Just grab him and go. We don't have any time left. Fixit says they are coming. Comm us later Clarissa." Bee yelled.

The rest of the bots came out, trying not to look in shock. They don't know what happened, but they are unsure if they want to know. Clarissa stared as they moved quickly, not even noticing Fixit trailing along after them. The groundbridge opened and they ran through. Sideswipe took one look back at her, his mind running through what just happened. Unsure of what to think. She mouthed 'I'm sorry' to him right before he jumped through. Now she is alone, and pieces of the con lay about in front of her. Not many, but enough to show she got him. But she isn't sure how to feel about it.

"Rave! What happened?" Greggory shouted behind her. She jumped at his voice, shaking herself out of her daze.

Some of the guys ran to where pieces of metal lay. Some ran into the old building, weapons at the ready, not knowing that they are long gone. Though the rocket did get left behind. It is enough evidence to show that she didn't make it up. Along with the scrap metal. She looks at her superior, unsure of what to say at first. So many emotions are running through her mind. She is angry at not knowing what the ammo was capable of, sad that she hurt the con so bad, not that he didn't deserve it, but still. She is confused on what Sideswipe is thinking, hoping he knows its not her fault.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She woke herself from her daydream, almost smacking Greggory in the face with hers.

"What are you talking about?"

"I know you see those pieces on the ground. I shot one of the cons and his leg practically exploded off. What kind of ammo did you give me?" Greggory took a step back, she followed. Pushing him against a tree. Everyone stopped what they were doing to watch the outcome.

"It is a new ammo, you knew that. You know regular bullets can't penetrate their metal. So, the geeks back at the lab made something that could."

"Where are they?" Fowler cut in.

"They ran off. I tried to stop them. I fired, shot the leg off one, but the others helped carry him away."

"Why didn't you call us? We would of moved faster." Greggory growled.

"I was a little in shock with the whole leg getting blown off thing. I wasn't expecting that. I was expecting something more like a stun gun or something. Not an explosion." Her voice rises the more she speaks. Her golden orbs staring daggers at Greggory. "And even then, how the hell was I supposed to call when it wouldn't have mattered. There were five of them. Five giant spiders. They could of easily killed me, but I got fucking lucky. So, fucking lucky."

"Well at least its wounded. We might be able to catch up with them." Greggory growled walking away from the two.

"Yeah, good luck." She mumbled under breath.

"What did you say?" He stopped and turned, staring angrily at her.

"Nothing." She called to him with a smile on her face.

He scowled at her but said nothing more and went back to the group to send them off in teams.

*With Team Bee*

No one on Team Bee has seen damage quite like this. All of their Cons have come back in one piece. While the rest of Fracture is in stasis, Fixit works on the wounded appendage of him. The spiders leg is heavily damaged. All the critical wiring in its leg is torn apart. It will take more than just welding to get the leg put back together. The team stands around, watching Fixit work. Not being a medic has him at a disadvantage. They can only hope he can get it back together and hope the nanites do the rest of the work.

"This is the best I can do for now. Stick him into a stasis pod and hope that his self-healing will do the rest. What did this?" Fixit asked as Grimlock picked up the prisoner, looking at the other bots.

The group turned to Sideswipe. He was the only one who saw what happened. The only one that saw what Clarissa did. No one knows what she used or how she did it. They only know she bears witness to it.

"Clarissa shot him. I watched his leg get blown off and when I looked to where it came from. She was standing there, staring in shock. I don't think she understood what happened. I don't think she knew that was gonna happen. She said she only wanted to slow him down for me." Sideswipe explained.

"Do you believe that?" Bee asked, looking straight at the young worrier.

"Of course I believe her. You don't?"

"I didn't say that. I think we need to hear her side of the story."

"Well I do to, but I don't know when she will be back home."

"I told her to comm us later. I'm sure she will and explain everything."

Sideswipe's shoulders slouched forward, no words to say anymore. He didn't know what to think right now. He only hopes that Clarissa will call them soon. All they can do now is wait. But lucky for them, they don't need to wait to long, soon there was a beep from the command center. Fixit answers the call and Clarissa's face shows up on the screen.

"Hey guys." Her voice sounds sad and her eyes are looking away.

"Hey Clarissa, are you alright?" Bee asks, looking at her in concern.

"I didn't know the ammo we got was going to do that. We were given it, but this was the first time we got to use it. Well I got to use it. I honestly thought it was just regular ammo. I didn't expect it to rip through it like a paper target. I'm really sorry Bee." She felt the need to explain herself. She didn't want anyone to blame her. It wasn't her fault.

"It's okay. Fixit was able to fix the con as much as he could. He is in stasis now." Bee explained.

"So, he's okay? Not that I care, but I made a promise when I said cons weren't going to die by human hands."

"Yes, he's stable for now..."

"Babe when you coming home?" Sideswipe walked close to the screen. Interrupting his leader.

"I'm hoping this weekend. I have to finish filing some reports then Tyler and I will be on our way back. We are getting this weekend off." She exclaims, looking at her bot with a light smile on her face.

"Thank Primus!" Sideswipe shouts to the sky, making her giggle on the other end.

"I just wanted to let you know about earlier. I swear I knew nothing about it. My superior did send out teams to look for the bug. I somehow convinced him that the thing ran away."

"It's okay. We know you wouldn't do anything on purpose. We just need to be more careful than ever now. I don't need any of us getting shot by one of those. You'd be out for the count for a while." Bee says in understanding. "We will see you when you get back."

"Sounds good. Later guys." She sent a wave and the connection cut off.
