Chapter 12 - Its in my blood
"You ready to go?" Tyler shouts from the end of the trailer, just finishing locking it up. The trailer is already hooked on the dually ready to go. Clarissa stands by the brand-new fencing, saying goodbyes to her babies. "Yeah but we have to wait for Denny to get here. I wanted to go over some things with him first. He should be her soon." She yells over her shoulder. Tires rolling over the gravel driveway are then heard, getting louder the closer they come. "Speak of the devil." She stays straight-faced and walks closer to the truck. Tyler joins her at the front of the truck and they both watch the shiny red Lambo come slowing to a stop.
The door opens, Clarissa holds her breath in anticipation of seeing Sam. It has been about a month since she has seen him. But instead of Sam coming out of the driver's seat, Denny is the one to step out. "Denny, Sam let you drive his car?" She asks, a hint of jealousy can be heard in her tone. "Oh, uh yeah. He wanted to come, but he had...had paperwork to do." Denny smiles a guilty smile and rubs the back of his neck as he speaks. Under her breath she mumbles a few curses. She already knows he's lying, but unfortunately, she can't say anything about it. "Well come on." She turns and makes her way to the barn, Denny following quickly behind her. "Wait for me!" A young voice calls out from the other side of the Lambo. "Oh, sorry Rusty. Let's go. You're alright if he comes and helps out, right?" He asks sheepishly. "Of course. That's perfectly fine. I did say he could exercise them while I'm gone." She says cheerfully. Russel catches up and the three walk into the barn.
She starts by telling them whose tack go to whom. Then she explains the feeding schedule. She made a list of everything they need to know. What to do and how to do it. It turned out to be a very long list, but she is very particular about everything. She doesn't want anything to go wrong. "I will be gone for a month. If anything goes wrong or you need something, call me. If I don't answer leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Unless it is an emergency then call Tyler. His number is at the bottom. Don't forget, Koda will walk all over you if you do not be firm with him." The last bit is pointed to Russel, knowing the youngster will want to be with the more free-spirited horse. He gives her a thumbs up and runs outside to pet the horses.
"Anything else." Denny asks folding up the instructions. The two then walk slowly out of the barn. "No that is it. If I think of anything I will call. But I'm sure I didn't leave anything out." She says confidently. Then a change of subject, hitting her off guard. "Have you talk to Sam?" She stops short at the question. Unsure of what she should say to that. "No, why do you ask?" She brings back her composure and claps her hand behind her back. "Just wondering. He has been pretty sulky since your break up." "Well that's his fault." She growled. "I know, but I also think you're the first thing he's cared about since he came here." Denny stops and turns to look at her. "Now that the cat is out of the bag, you are all he talks about. I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I think you should at least talk to him." He gazes at her for a moment before turning and walking to the sleek car.
"Alright let's go." She walks briskly towards the driver side of her truck, but before getting in, she glances at the bot hiding in his alt mode. She doesn't say anything but sigh, then hopped in the driver seat. Tyler jumped into the passenger side seat. Both slamming the doors closed at the same time. "Are you sure you don't want to say anything to him?" Tyler whispered to her, looking lightly at her. "No, he doesn't know I know. It's probably better this way anyway." Her words barely audible. She put the truck in gear and followed the lambo out of the driveway and on the road. The sleek red car floored and sped off leaving them in the dust. A small smirk played on her lips as she continued at the speed limit.
"We won't hesitate, To break down the garden gate, There's not much time left today, Life is a highway, I wanna ride it all night long, If you're going my way, I wanna drive it all night long, Through all these cities and all these towns, It's in my blood, and it's all around, I love you now like I loved you then, This is the road, and these are the hands" She sing as loud as her lungs would allow her too, trying to keep herself awake at 3am in the morning. She will occasionally glance over at the sleeping Tyler, not at all surprised he hasn't woken up from her tunes. They are only three hours from their destination, the first spot in this tour. Then she would sleep a few hours, do some interviews then sleep again and race the next day.' Should be one hell of a time' she thought to herself, smiling a small smile.
"I saw that. What are you thinking about?" She jumps and jerks the wheel a little bit, not expecting Tyler to wake up. "About tomorrows race." It is the truth; the race is all she should be thinking about. "Is that all?" she glances over to him, he still has his eyes closed. "Yes, I need to keep my focus. This is my first race back in the game." she replies. "I'm glad your trying. I know a lot has happened the last few weeks. You got this. I have faith in you." He sent her a lazy thumbs up and she can't stop the giggle leaving her lips. His eyes opened, and a grin laid on his lips. "Its so good to hear you laugh." Her face slowly turns a deep shade of red, she's glad its dark and he can't see it. Though, he has seen everything there is to see about her. She shouldn't feel embarrassed by anything anymore.
(With Sideswipe)
Sideswipe races after another con down the back woods. Chasing after cons is the only thing keeping his mind busy, keeping him from going insane. Though he always takes the time to make sure he is in front of the picture box to watch the races Clarissa are in. Tonight, is going to be no different. He hasn't missed one of the three races she's had so far and he ain't going to start now. "I swear to primus, con, if I miss this race. I will personally tear out your spark." He growls taking another fast turn to keep up. "Haha you can't catch me!" The con says in a sing song voice. This makes Sideswipe let out another deep growl. That resonates from deep in his voice box.
He does a quick transformation, gripping one of the trees with a servo and launches himself at the con, landing on top of the fragger, knocking him out. "Thank primus. Your voice was beginning to get annoying." He says, wiping away condensation from his forehelm. He grunts as he heaves the con over his shoulder. "Alright, lets get you back into your stasis cell." He mumbles to the dead weight con and he starts his trek back to the scrapyard.
He throws the con into its stasis cell, making sure it's closed he jogs over to the diner. Russel is waiting there for him along with Denny, Strongarm and Grimlock. "It hasn't started yet has it?" He questions as he sits down, as close as he can. "Not yet, but they are getting ready to start. Look there's Clarissa!" Russel shouts excitedly after answering Sideswipe. They all stare intently at the small tv screen. The camera follows the black and blue racer, her last name sewed proudly on the back of her racing jacket. "Go Clarissa!!" The group shouted as the green flag was waved. Sideswipe watches closely at the women he has hopelessly fallen for.
She hunches low and close to the tank of her bike, barely using the clutch to switch gears, revving up. Going faster and faster. Her knee scraps the hard pavement as she rounds the corner, letting up on the gas enough to make the turn. There is no need to see her face to see how determined she is. Her body language tells it all. The way so leans with the bike, almost like she is molded to it. With barely a flick of her wrist she revs up the engine. The scenery whipping past her as she flies. Though, its not something she focuses on, it's the next turn, the guy or gal next to her, trying to pass her. It's that checkered flag she will see when she comes to the last lap. The way the engine feels beneath her, carrying her over a hundred miles per hour.
It's the feeling of home.
