Chapter 11 - In the End
Clarissa continues to pace in her living room. The news stopped playing when electricity in Crown city seemed to go out randomly. Now she has no news, no word from Sam. She has nothing, and it is driving her crazy. She even called Tyler and he doesn't know anything. Then a few moments later he calls her back.
"They are evacuating the city." He says on the other line.
"What? Why?" She wonders.
"Apparently giant robots from a movie set are wreaking havoc downtown." She can hear the sarcastic in his tone.
"Giant robots. Hmmm I wonder what they really are." she says sarcastically. Tyler huffs on the other end.
"Do you need a place to crash?" Clarissa asks, pacing some more.
"Nah, this gives me an excuse to visit my mother." She can't stop the laughter flowing out of her lips.
"Tell her I say hi." She says in between giggles. He gives her a fake laugh and hangs up, leaving her alone in the dark again.
The news comes back on several hours later. There is nothing being mentioned about what happened earlier that day. Nothing and it made Clarissa even more nervous. Sideswipe has yet to text her. Not a hey or a I'm fine. Nothing. Its around ten at night and she decides to go to bed. She just hopes when she wakes in the morning, Sideswipe will have texted her. She strips out of her clothes and crawls under the covers. Curling tightly together, pushing her face into the pillow. The smell of her lover lingers in her pillow, making her miss him even more. Small wet spots form on the pillow as tears lightly fall from her sadden eyes.
Time has seemed to slow for her. Days have passed, and she hasn't heard from Sideswipe. Today is her first day back on the track. She was hoping he would be here to support her and cheer her on, but there has been no word. She chooses to put all her focus into riding.
"You don't have to start yet if you don't want too." Tyler come from behind her. She can feel his stare on her back.
"I need to start. If I don't start now, I never will." She says lowly.
"I know, but..."
"Don't start. He clearly doesn't care as much as I thought." She interrupts. She grabs her helmet and pulls it over her head. Without waiting for him to speak any more she revs the engine and races off. Riding like she never stopped. Like there was never an injury prohibiting her from riding. Like riding a bike, you never forget.
A few weeks go by, her racing getting better and faster every day. Tayler told her the other day she might be ready to start racing in the leagues again. She pulls over after thirty laps. Pulling her helmet off and shaking her hair out, she kicks down the kick stand.
"How was that?" She wonders, walking over to her coach.
"That was really good. Your almost back up to your original time." He shows her the time on his stopwatch. She should be smiling, excited. Jumping up and down, but instead she just grunted and walked over to her bike, grabbing a terry cloth and rubbing down her sport bike.
"Why don't you head home? You can be done for today." Her shoulders fell forward, her head bowed. He walked up to her and set a comforting hand on her back. This gave her the invitation to turn and push herself into his chest. Tears streaming down her face in a silent cry. He wrapped his arms around her, rubbing her back. He sets a light kiss on top of her hair, running his hand through her vibrant blonde hair.
"Do you want me to take you home?" He whispers. She sniffles before looking up at him.
"No, thank you, but no I'll be alright." Her voice hoarse. She tries to give a small smile, but she can't even manage that.
"I miss him." She admits.
He kisses the top of her head again, "I know."
She drives home in her Dodge 3500. Her finger taping against the steering wheel along with the music. "It's so unreal, Didn't look out below, Watch the time go right out the window, trying to hold on, but you didn't even know, wasted it all just to watch you go, I kept everything inside, and even though I tried, it all fell apart, what it meant to me, will eventually be a memory of a time when, I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end, it didn't even matter, I had to fall to lose it all but in the end, it doesn't even matter." "One thing, I don't know why, it doesn't even matter how hard you try, keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme, to remind myself of a time when, I tried so hard." She sang along with the song.
She took her turn off the bridge, making her way to her place. Then a few speeding cars drove past her. She wouldn't have thought anything of it, but one particular red sports car caught her eye. "So, when did he get back or did he ever leave?" She growled under her breath. She did the fastest Y turn she has ever done. Her rage bleeding into the fuel of the revving engine, wishing she was on her motorcycle.
"SAM!" An aggravated feminine voice yells from the other side of the junk yard. The Autobots and humans look at each other in confusion. Except for Sideswipe. A nervous twitch seems to form on his face as he quickly transforms and drives off into the direction of the voice.
"Sam! I know you're here" The feminine voice shouts again. Sideswipe drifts to a stop in front of the tall, blonde hair, golden eye girl, whose flawless face was contorted in anger. Sideswipes holoform jumps out of the driver side of his alt. "Babe, what are you doing here?" He says trying to keep his cool. Her hands are on her hips and she is tapping her foot.
"Seriously! You vanish for weeks and that's what you say to me! You couldn't call or stop by. What the fuck Sam?" She snaps at him. The others slowly made their way to the couple, attempting to stay hidden. "Look I'm sorry I had urgent business to take care of and I couldn't call. Please I'm sorry. I won't do it again." He pleaded. He moved closer to her, reaching out for her. She crossed her arms and back away, leaving a hurt look on his face. "That's no excuse." She claimed. "Please I'm really sorry. Don't do this to me. It won't happen again." "You said that last time. I don't believe that you actually want this. Goodbye Sam." She turned quick and walked away. He could hear her Dodge rumble back to life and black soot shoots to the sky. Sideswipe is about to run after her, until he is stopped by his team.
"Sideswipe" Lieutenant Bumblebee warns down to the holoform. Sideswipe gave him a nervous grin before going back into his bipedal mode. He transforms and looks to the ground, waiting to get yelled at. "What was that?" Bumblebee interrogates. "I didn't think she would ever come here. She is...was my girlfriend. Her name is Clarissa I kept her a secret cause I knew none of you would approve. She doesn't know that I'm not human." He explains, still looking away.
"AWWWWWW!" Strongarm cooes. The group all looked at her in confusion. "He actually cares about someone and its not just anyone, It's a human and a feisty one at that."
"It doesn't matter now you guys clearly saw her just break up with me." Sideswipe snaps.
"Go get her!" Strongarm orders.
"Woah woah. No. Its better if she isn't with you. It could only cause problems later. You don't want her to get caught by Decepticons, do you?" Bumblebee exclaims. Sideswipe can only nod. Knowing it would be better and safer if she wasn't with him. "Good, now let's get back to work." Bumblebee orders. They all turn to go back to the command center. Sideswipe took his time, still looking back at where Clarissa had run off.
Strongarm walks up beside him, a giddy look on her face.
"So, tell me how you met her? Tell me about her. Tell me everything!" She seems to jump for joy. Sideswipe frowns and trudges as he walks.
"We raced while I was on patrol one day. She was on her motorcycle and she had beaten me. It was amazing. I just had to get to know her. Turns out she's actually races motorcycles as a job."
"Is that why you were missing all those times?" Strongarm questions. Sideswipe givea a sheepish grin.
"Yeah, I wanted to support her. Sometimes I would just go hang out with her at her house. She has horses and taught me how to ride. She's got so much talent and can do anything she sets her mind to." He continues, smiling to himself.
"Sounds like you love her." He looks up at her in surprise, then back down to the dirt they were walking on.
"How long have you been seeing her?"
"About 6 months, but I don't think I love her. I do like her a lot."
"SIDESWIPE! STRONGARM! Hurry Up." Yells Bumblebee from the command center. "We shall talk later." Strongarm whispers before they broke into a sprint.
*With Clarissa*
"How can he do this to me? I thought he actually like me. How hard is it to pick up the phone?" She mumbles to herself as she walks up her driveway after parking her bike. She heads towards the barn to get ready to brush her horses. Then she notices something was off. She looks over the pasture and can't see her horses.
"What the hell?" She says angerly. Walking over, she notices that part of the fence was broken.
"Shit." Her horses have broken loose. She quickly pulls her phone out of her pocket and dials a familiar number.
"Hey Denny...Yes I was just over there...Sorry I was a little pissed off...Yeah anyway, my horses got loose. Can you keep an eye out for them? Awesome thanks." She hung up and storms to the garage to get her four-wheeler, then grabs some halters and leads. Her first stop is heading through the woods.
*Scrapyard*
"Russel!" Calls Denny after hanging up the phone. A short boy, with short brown hair came running up.
"Yeah dad."
"We have to keep an eye out for Clarissa's horses, they got out recently." Russel gave him a thumb up. Then they hear a shriek come from the back part of the scrapyard.
"What was that?" Russel questions, causing the two to begin running towards the scream. Bumblebee, Strongarm and Sideswipe caught up with them as they heard the shriek as well. They came to an opening and saw Grimlock being held bridle style by Drift and not to far away from them were three horses.
"What are those?" Asks Strongarm. Bumblebee opens his mouth to answer but Sideswipe beat him to it.
"They are horses, specifically Clarissa's horses. The black one is Koda. The lighter brown one is Jack and the larger one is Clyde." Sideswipe transforms and walked out in his holoform, slowly making his way to the horses. Koda walks right up to Sideswipe, nuzzling his face. The other bots stared in awe at the sight in front of them.
"I better call Clarissa." Denny says turning to go back up front to make the call.
"Bring them up front, would ya?" He calls as he was walking away. Russel joggs forward to pet one of the horses. Drift proceeds to drop Grimlock, causing the ground the shake, scaring the horses.
"Woah. Woah. Its okay." Sideswipe calms the horses, petting their noses.
"Sideswipe your like a horse whisperer." Russel says petting Clyde, who towers over the small boy.
"We just get along. Come on let's go up front." With a click of his tongue, he guids Koda to the front, making the other two follows as well.
As they got to the front of the command center, Denny is just getting off the phone. "Clarissa will be rolling up in a few, she has the get her truck and trailer." He stated setting the phone down.
Sideswipe gives him a nod and turns to start petting Koda again. Bumblebee, Strongarm and Drift turn on their holoforms and went to try and pet the horses as well. Poor Grimlock is unable to pet them, though he doesn't seem to mind, he has a horrified look still plastered on his face. Jetstorm and Slipstream join in as well. All seeming to enjoy the horses. The horses seem to love the attention.
"Dad think I could ride one?" Russel asks, giving his dad a pleading look.
"I don't know. That's up to Clarissa."
"I've ridden them before." Russel argues.
"Yes, but that was when you were younger. Its been some time." Denny agree but still wasn't sure.
"Please." Russel claps his hands together, begging his father.
"Wait tell Clarissa gets here, then we'll see." Giving his son a pat on the back, chuckling at his sons pouting face.
Soon they hear tires driving on the gravel of the scrapyard, making them all turn their heads, except for Sideswipe. He seems to move off to the side, staying out of the way. Russel lead the horses to the open area near the front, away from the command center. Pulling up to the open area is a large truck and trailer. The large Dodge 3500 dually came to a stop and out hopped the tall woman, though the truck made her look quite short. She is quick to grab halters and lead lines from the horse trailer and walk over to the horses. She gives a hello to everyone as she quickly halters the horses, not bothering to give a hello to the red head standing in the background.
"Thanks Denny and Russel for getting them for me." She says as she shook Dennys hand.
"Don't thank me. Thank Russel and Si..Sam. He led the horses up front." Russel elbows his dad in the hip before he could say Sideswipes real name.
"Well thank the both of you." She says looking at only Russel. She takes Koda and loads him first. As she is loading the horses she is getting bombarded with questions from Russel.
"Can I come ride them? Do you need help with them? Remember when I used to come over and ride. I was little, but I still remember." Clarissa begins to chuckle, then ruffls his hair.
"Yes, Rusty I remember. You can come ride them whenever you want. Actually, how would you like to come ride them every other day. They need exercise and I have some big races coming up." Russels jaw drops. "Yes...I mean yeah sure. I can make time." He tries to hide his excitement, making Clarissa laugh as she loads the last horse.
They all begin to chit chat. Russel introduces her to the rest of the bots that are still in holoform, giving them human names. Strongarm asks if she can come learn how to ride too. Clarissa is more than happy to teach them how to ride. She talks to Denny for a bit, while to newbies talk about how excited they are to learn to ride. She asks if he can look over her ranch while she was gone on her tour. She would have asked Sam, but seeing as they weren't on good terms, she chose to ask Denny. Also, Denny has looked over her ranch before in the past.
Every now and then her gaze would shift onto Sideswipe. He stood leaning against a wall of junk, staring at her. When she looked at him he would quickly look away. He wants to go talk to her, but what is he to say. She clearly wants nothing to do with him, but yet she is constantly looking at him. She mentioned she would be leaving for her first race of the season in a week. She says it loud enough so Sideswipe would hear. It upsets him to know she is leaving. He knows he has to do something before she leaves. He needs to try and get her back.
