Reality Check Part Two

Robbie was called into the old man's office. He knew what was coming when the assistant informed him. Dammit! He sat at his desk exhausted with a mountain of work before him. He reached into his drawer and pulled out a bottle of Tylenol. It was only eight thirty in the morning and already this day was sucking.

He thought about that morning when he woke to a hand stroking his head. Thinking it was Harry he took the hand and kissed the palm. Then he felt the long sharp nails and realization hit. He woke to find Emma there.

"Hi, baby." She said, still caressing his hair.

Robbie quickly sat up and looked around. "Where's, where's Ha--"

"Who?" Emma asked.

Robbie shut up. "Nothing. What's up?"

Emma laughed. "What's up? I came home early, that's what. It was the same old thing so I decided to come home. Aren't you glad to see me?"

"Yeah, sure, baby, I missed you." As Robbie hugged her he looked around the room. Where was Harry? The bedroom door was closed. Was he hiding somewhere in the place?

While he was getting ready for work Robbie peeked in the closets and other rooms. Harry must have somehow snuck out. He would have to call him later.

Now Robbie was stuck here at work, feeling like hell. He didn't get a lot of sleep last night. He tried not to think about why. That was so risky having Harry come by the house, but then again it was the risk that made it so exciting.

Wait. Reality check.

What if Emma had come home sooner? What would she have said if she had seen him bent over the dining room table with Harry right behind him? Or if she had found them in their kitchen or caught him going down on Harry in the bathtub? Robbie didn't even want to know the answer to that.

Feeling like he was going to the electric chair Robbie went into the office where Grandfather sat behind his large desk. Robbie closed the door behind him and dragged himself to one of the chairs. Grandfather glared at him. What else was new?

"What's the problem, Robert?" Grandfather got right to the point. "You've been behind in your work lately."

Robbie shrugged. "Just had a lot of stuff on my mind. Wedding and all that."

Grandfather scoffed. "Seriously? You let outside influences get in the way of this business? What kind of businessman are you?"

"The kind that's going to run your business someday." Robbie spoke up.

"Not like this," Grandfather said. "This is a billion dollar corporation, I'm not going to leave it in the hands of someone who's too busy worrying about what color bouquet they should have at their wedding."

Robbie stared into his lap. Already the old man was making him feel like crap.

"You were supposed to have the outline of that project finished weeks ago," Grandfather demanded. "I haven't seen it yet. What are you waiting for?"

Robbie didn't say anything.

"Tom has already done his work and then some." Grandfather went on, voice like ice. "He's gone above and beyond for the Kays. Maybe I should leave the business to him since you clearly don't have the heart for it."

"No, no," Robbie mumbled. "I'll do it. I'll finish my work."

"You're damn right you will!" Grandfather said. "I've been too soft with you."

When was that, Robbie wondered.

"No more days off," the old man said. "You're working late nights and weekends to catch up on your work and do your project. If you want a place in this company that is."

"But I was suppose to take Emma--"

"I suggest you tell her you won't be able to make it."

Robbie trudged back to his office. Son of a bitch! Well he definitely won't be able to see Harry now. He was going to be stuck in this office forever. Unless. . .

No. He was a Kay and this was his birthright. If he wanted this business he was going to have to put his nose to the grindstone.

Felton stuck his head in the door. "Need any help, Rob?" He had a small smirk on his face that Robbie wished he could smack off. Did this guy know what the old man said?

"No thank you." Robbie said stiffly. "I got this."

Felton was leaning against the door frame. "Sorry we won't see you at Kendall's party later."

"Right."

For the rest of the day Robbie went through the paperwork on his desk, typing on his computer. His eyes ached and his back was killing him. But he plowed on until everyone left. He heard the cleaning crew going through the offices. Soon he was the only one on the floor. It was pitch dark outside. He was hungry and tired. He only got a fraction of his work done. There was so much more to do and with a deadline coming up it was overwhelming.

Robbie's phone buzzed. He wondered if it was Emma wondering when he was leaving. Not anytime soon, he thought.

It was Harry: Hey how you doing?

Seeing Harry's name was like a sudden shot in the arm. Robbie sat up, feeling a rush of energy. Harry!

Robbie texted back: Stuck at office with a mountain of work. 😔Hbu?

Harry: At Kendall's party. Emma said you were working. Want company?🤗

Robbie thought about it. Better not, he had too much to do.

Robbie: Tempting but no. Enjoy your party.🎉Talk to you later.

Harry: okay love you.😚

Robbie was surprised at those little words that mean so much. He had told Harry that right when they were going at it. Did he mean it? He did.

Robbie: luv you too.😙❤

Robbie put his phone down and thought about their relationship. They were getting closer with each day. With Harry he felt so alive and on top of the world. Did he have that with Emma? He loved them both. This was so confusing. He had to think about this some more.

With his new found energy Robbie went back to his work, trying to shrink down this pile. A sudden noise stopped him. There it was again, it sounded like footsteps. As far as he knew he was the only one in the building, not counting the security guard downstairs.

The footsteps were getting closer. Robbie stood up. "Hello?" He moved from behind his desk towards the door. "Who's there?"

The door opened and Harry appeared, holding up a bag from a fast food restaurant. "Hi, it's just your delivery guy here."

Breathing a sigh of relief Robbie ran over to him and hugged him tightly. "Oh man, am I glad to see you."

Harry laughed as he hugged back. "Are you talking to me or the food?"

"Both." Seeing Harry felt like sunshine after a long rainy day. Robbie held onto him, basking in his warmth. He didn't want to let go.

Harry looked behind Robbie at the desk. "Wow, is all that your work?"

"Yeah," Robbie grumbled. "I've been doing this shit all day."

Harry kissed him on the side of his neck. "Need a break?"

He didn't need to ask twice. Robbie returned his kisses. They moved towards the desk.

At the party Emma was talking to Kendall in the corner. "What happened to Harry? I thought I saw him with you."

"You did. He left." Kendall said. "All he said was that he had stuff to do. Where's your guy?"

Emma sighed. "Stuck at work, playing catch up. I don't know what's going on, we hardly see each other. I cut my trip short to spend more time with him and he practically had to rush out. We can't live like this, I'm going to call him now."

Emma took out her phone from her purse and dialed his cell. There was no answer so she called his office.

"Ohh!" Robbie groaned. "Jesus! Harry, God!" He was lying across his desk right on the paperwork he had been working on. His shirt was open and his pants were around his ankles. He was lying back enjoying the "break" Harry was giving him.

His cell range a few times. He ignored it, letting it go to voicemail.

Then his office phone rang, loudly and persistently.

Harry stood up from between Robbie's knees. He leaned over and picked up the phone, pressing the speaker button. "Hello, Mr. Kay's office." he said in a southern accent, making Robbie snicker.

"Uh, hello, it's Emma Watson, I'm looking for Robbie," the voice said from the other end. "I thought he was there."

"He was," Harry drawled. "He's not. . .in. . .at the moment."

Robbie snickered again.

"Oh, okay," Emma said. "Can you give a message to him, uh, I don't think I know you."

"I'm Harold, I'm a temp here just helping out."

"Okay, Harold, have Robbie call me as soon as he's able." Emma said.

"Yes, ma'am."

"Thank you, Harold."

"No problem."

Harry hung up. He looked down at Robbie. "Okay, where were we?"

Robbie smiled up at his devious friend. "You know where, Harold."

Harry knelt back down. Soon Robbie went back to his moaning and yelling, all thoughts of Emma and work gone from his head.
