Going Deep
While Robbie was on the phone, Emma hovered outside of his door watching him closely. He didn't look like he was talking to a client. Why did he toss his phone into his desk drawer like that?
"Hey, Emma."
She turned around. It was Tom. They had known each other since their school days. "Hi, Tom."
"Waiting for Robbie?" Tom was carrying a brief case. He must be going to the meeting too.
"We're going to lunch."
Tom didn't move. "How are things going with you? How's the wedding plans coming along? Must be exciting." He smiled at her. "I hope Robbie knows how lucky he is."
Emma smiled too. "Such a flatterer."
"I only speak the truth."
Emma glanced into Robbie's office. He was still on the phone. She looked back at Tom. "Do you have time now?"
"Always for you." Tom led her down the hall to his tidy office. He sat at his desk while she sat across. "Talk to me."
Emma paused, trying to get her thoughts together. "Have you noticed anything unusual about Robbie?"
Tom frowned. "Like what?"
"I don't know, maybe it's my imagination. . ."
"It's okay," Tom encouraged her. "If you see smoke there's always a fire. Tell me what's on your mind."
"It's Robbie." Emma thought. "He's been. . . what's the word I'm looking for?"
"Furtive? Sneaky?"
Emma gasped in surprise. "How did you know that? So it's not just me. Have you seen anything?"
Tom nodded seriously. "Yeah, now that you mention it, a few times I would see Robbie on the phone talking kind of secretly. He would get pissed if anyone came in his office unannounced or hovered too close."
"That's exactly what he just did now. He hid his phone when I stopped in. He's never done that before, ever."
Tom thought about that. "Well it's true me and Robbie aren't exactly buddies but I don't think he would do anything shady to you. He could be planning a surprise, that's a possibility."
Emma sighed in relief. "Of course. That could be it." She laughed. "I feel so silly for bothering you."
Tom reached across the desk and took her hand. "Don't be. I'm always here for you if you need a friend."
"Thanks, Tom."
"But I wouldn't rule anything out. I'll keep an eye out on him and let you know if anything is going on."
"Thanks, Tom, I really appreciate that but I'm sure it's nothing." Emma stood up. "I know my Robbie and I trust him."
"Emma?" Robbie's voice was heard in the hallway.
"Right here!" Emma left to join her fiance.
Later that evening Harry stood in his office by the large window while sipping his drink. He watched the people in his club as they danced and drank and enjoyed themselves. The DJ was playing the latest music. His staff took care of the customers.
But his mind wasn't on his business. Harry was thinking about his phone conversation with Robbie. True, when Robbie started with his crazy ranting he felt like strangling him. But when Robbie expressed his true feelings Harry couldn't help feeling a little flattered. In fact he felt giddy as a girl with her first crush. Better keep it cool, dude, he told himself. Robbie may end up burning him.
Speak of the devil, Robbie walked right into his club. He was dressed differently from his usual conservative businessman look. Instead Robbie wore a jacket and jeans. He even wore a hat similar to the one Harry wore at the country club.
Harry felt his heart jump at the sight of Robbie. "Stay cool," he muttered to himself. He kept his eyes on Robbie, watching him go to the bar and order a drink. Robbie turned in his seat to watch the dancing. A guy approached him. Harry stared, wondering if Robbie was going to go with him. The bar was practically a meat market with guys looking for casual hook ups.
Robbie held up his hand and shook his head. The guy walked away, looking for another prospect. Harry was actually relieved that Robbie turned him down.
Then Robbie looked up towards his large window. He wouldn't be able to see Harry or his office. It was a mirror on his side. Yet Robbie smiled up at the window. He must have known Harry was there.
Harry picked up his phone and made a call to his staff. "Send him up."
Then he watched as a staff member sent Robbie upstairs. Harry stood by the window watching as he disappeared from his sight.
Someone tapped on the door. Then Robbie came in, closing and locking the door behind him.
Harry just stood by the window. He didn't speak. Neither did Robbie as he walked up to him. Harry picked up his glass and continued sipping. Robbie took the glass from his hand and gulped down the remainder of the drink. He slammed the glass down on Harry's desk, then moved closer. He gazed into Harry's eyes, as if he were searching for something. He traced his fingertips along Harry's face, pausing along his lips. Harry couldn't get a read on Robbie, only that he appeared to be studying him. Maybe Robbie was searching for that self that he kept hidden, he guessed.
Then Robbie moved in and kissed him.
Harry stood there allowing Robbie to kiss and hold him. It was getting difficult to maintain his casual manner. He could feel Robbie's urgency as he undid Harry's shirt, fumbling with the buttons before removing it. Harry felt Robbie's lips along the side of his neck before moving down to his chest. His tongue flicked along the tattoos. Harry watched as his head moved lower to his abdomen, waiting to see what he would do next.
Robbie stood up abruptly. Harry figured he'd chicken out, big surprise. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.
Instead Robbie removed his hat. "Clothes off." Was all he said.
"No." Harry said. "You do it."
Robbie took the challenge. He got on his knees and undid Harry's jeans before peeling them down. Harry stepped out of them before kicking them aside.
"Wow," Robbie said. "No underwear."
"Laundry day."
"Right."
Harry looked down at him. "So what are you going to do now?" He predicted that Robbie would wuss out again.
Instead Robbie grinned up at him, then he bent down and took Harry in his mouth.
Okay, this was a surprise, Harry thought. He watched as Robbie bobbed up and down. It wasn't bad. Robbie definitely had enthusiasm.
Robbie was moving faster. Harry was really into it. But he wanted more. "Stop."
Robbie looked up at him. "What? Did I do something? I'm kinda new at this."
No kidding. "It's great, really." Harry said. "But I think we need to take this back to my place if we're going to do this."
"Not here?"
"Too many distractions," Harry was pulling on his clothes. "I need hours of uninterrupted time to do the things to you that I want to do."
"Okay." Robbie stood.
Harry looked at him. "Are you in?"
Robbie hesitated. This was it. Did he want to do this? Here was his chance. He could say no, go back to his Emma and forget this ever happened.
Or. . .
"I'm in," Robbie said firmly, letting his hormones take over. "Let's do this."
