Chapter 4 (rewrite)
The city lights flickered across the room as Sania finally lay her body on her bed, her mind still stuck on the hours she had left behind.
The engagement party of her sister had come to an end, after she had spent 40 minutes stuck in an elevator with Jimin, playing rock, paper, scissors.
He sure had a twisted way of playing silly games, but Sania couldn't fully blame him. He didn't know how his words always sounded misleading to her ears, nor was he aware of how much she suffered by being in his presence.
Those minutes felt like an eternity when she was alone with him in such a small place, unable to run or look at anything else but him.
How his eyes become like crescent moons when he smiles, how his face lit up. How beautiful he is. All things she shouldn't have been noticing at all, let alone admiring them like a love-sick fool.
"Gosh, why, just why?"She ruffled her hair in frustration as she sat up in a sitting position, regretting all her life choices.
How could she get out of this mess without hurting anyone? She couldn't just pack her things and go back to New York after she had promised her mother to return for good, and she had even moved all her things over and applied to so many places for a new job.
She had already left everything behind to get back with her family again, yet now here she was, finding herself unnecessary.
It would be best if she could just run and pretend she had not recognised him either. But still she would have to meet with him here and there, especially after he was to become officially her sister's husband.
"This is a mess. Such a mess." Sania's head hung low as she felt her throat getting tight, and tears welled up in her eyes.
She had never thought that her love would turn out like this.
"Dear, are you awake?" Her mother's voice made her snap towards the door and collect herself quickly, fixing her hair and swiping her tears away, before she opened the door for her.
"Oh, here you are?"
"What is it, Mom? Do you need something?"
"Oh no, dear, I was checking on you. You know it's been so long since I last had you in the house...I was just thinking...Do you want to sleep together, like when you were a kid?"Her mother's offer caught Sania by surprise, but she smiled soon enough, agreeing on the spot.
"Great, change into your nightgown and come over. Your sister is already waiting." Mrs Laila (Sania's mother) cupped her cheek endearingly before she turned around to leave, and Sania smiled even more as she rushed to her wardrobe.
Getting changed was so easy, and she did so messily and in a hurry, as she was craving to cuddle with the two most dear people in her life, after such a long time. There were so many nights that she had missed their warmth when she was left alone back in New York. She felt like a child again, as she rushed out of the guest room she was occupying and into her mother's room.
"Make way for me, "She uttered as she scooted into the bed, pushing her sister over while Ria laughed at her enthusiasm.
"Ah, my little sister is still such a baby," Ria uttered as she enveloped her in her embrace, and Sania nestled her head on her shoulders, while their mother laughed and threw her arms to embrace them both.
"I am just a girl," Sania joked, making the three of them chuckle a bit more.
"I can't wait for you to come live with me."Ria expressed her desire once more as she looked at Sania with eyes full of happiness, reminding her of the fact that she had to go stay with her and Jimin. A thing she had yet to accept fully as a reality, especially because she wanted so much to do the exact opposite and just disappear from the face of the earth.
"Hey, what is with that expression? Don't you want to go?" Her mother noticed how her face fell at the mention, and Sania forced herself to smile a bit as her eyes travelled from her to her sister.
"I need her to come for a while, Mom, I promise you can have her stay with you again later." Ria turned to her mother and explained, thinking that her mom only needed an excuse to keep Sania there, because she already wanted her to stay with her, but Ria wasn't going to let that happen, because she had things that Sania could assist her with.
"But isn't it a bit weird for a third person to be moving in with a newly engaged couple? Won't she be in the way?" Mrs Laila uttered her concerns, and Sania took the initiative to back her up on that.
"Yes, it will be awkward. I think it's better if I just stay somewhere near. I can get my own apartment so I have my own privacy, and you both have yours too, and I can visit whenever you need me."
"Don't say nonsense. Jimin's place is big enough for all of us, so why pay extra money? Besides, it will take time for you to find a place to rent, and I need you immediately."Ria insisted on giving Sania a look, which made her understand what she was referring to, so Sania just sighed, knowing that she couldn't back out of helping her sister just because she was in more trouble than she could ever tell her.
"Fine, fine, but just for a month or two."
"Great, I love you~"Ria hugged her again, her cheek squishing against her face, making her grumpy expression go from deadpan to a small smile.
The three of them changed the subject after that, talking about the engagement after party and how great everything was, while Sania just stood silent, wishing her mind could turn off and bring this night to an end.
---Time skip---
Sania was arranging her clothes and other belongings in her new room. After two more days of Ria begging her, she had ended up actually going along with her sister's wishes.
Ria hadn't wasted time and had come and picked her up, full of enthusiasm and happiness, thanking her along the way and emphasizing how much she was saving her from trouble. Saving her while she was getting her own self potentially cornered.
Sania had concluded for the millionth time, as she had gone over the events way too many times in her head, that she had to move on from Jimin as quickly as possible, but she was no fool to think of that as an easy task. She sighed, only recalling that goal as she finished arranging everything.
"I will be in control of my emotions, yes, I will." She encouraged herself as she stepped out of the room they had given her, knowing that breakfast must be ready already. She had yet to eat anything since Ria had come to get her at the crack of dawn.
Sania complained in her head over her sister's craziness till her train of thought came to a pause as she saw Jungkook and her sister alone in the kitchen. Her footsteps hurried at the sight, instantly recalling what she was there to do.
"Is everything okay, sis?" Sania asked her, not even bothering to greet Jungkook.
However, Jungkook didn't seem to have been insulted by the fact that Sania ignored him. He just looked her way, and even though she couldn't help but stare daggers at him, he just gifted Sania a smile and greeted her good morning.
She didn't address his good behavior, which she totally didn't like, as Sania saw his kindness and politeness as nothing but a hypocritical act. But she did roll her eyes at him just before Jimin showed up, all dressed up for work.
He had his phone in his hand, typing away, but once he noticed them all gathered in the kitchen, he halted his feet for a second, and put the device away before proceeding to approach them.
"Oh! Jungkook, I didn't know you had come."He patted his shoulder as he smiled at his best friend, then he threw his gaze towards Sania. "Good morning, sweet lady." his choice of words made her eyes grow wide as he was looking at her when he spoke, but he went and pecked her sister's lips nonchalantly and sat down to eat the breakfast that Ria had prepared.
Making Sania think that most likely, that was not meant for her. Her heartbeat rose unnecessarily, thankfully.
"And good morning to the rest of you, too." He added, making Jungkook smile.
"Sania, won't you go change. You will be late." Ria looked her way as she spoke to Sania, and she gave her a confused look in return as she didn't quite catch what she was referring to.
"Yeah, you should, Sania, you are gonna come with me to work today, and I will show you around."
Jimin informed her, and Sania's mouth dropped slightly open as she had completely forgotten that his company had actually hired her. Sania wasn't sure if she wanted to work there after finding out who the CEO of that company was, but she couldn't turn down the position that she had worked so hard for. It wouldn't be fair to her own hard work to leave an opportunity pass just because Jimin happened to be there.
Like hell, if Jimin and I leave, Jungkook and Ria will be left alone. Not happening.
"Ah, it's okay, thanks for the offer. Even without your help, I am sure I will learn the places eventually." Sania tried to avoid leaving with him even tho she knew well enough she needed that tour, simply because her sister had brought her here to help her shield herself from this Jungkook guy. And she was surely going to prioritize that.
"Are you trying to avoid me? Why? Do you like me or something?" Jimin questioned her, and Sania couldn't help but freeze in place. Her heart dropped to her feet as panic started rising inside her.
"Wha-Whaa-what are you talking about. Me-me never. With You?! Hell no!!" She strongly protested as she waved her hands in a denying manner, and Jungkook and her sister started to laugh while Jimin raised his eyebrows slightly before speaking again.
"Why? Am I not hot enough for you?" She could feel herself getting covered in cold sweat, and as they burst laughing, the realization hit her that he was just messing with her.
Sania couldn't help but grow mad, and she left her facial expression to showcase her annoyed emotions clearly, giving them all a death stare that made them stop.
"Sorry, you don't have to make that face, I was just teasing you." He stated and smiled kindly before proceeding to take another bite from his breakfast in the midst, which Sania caught him mouthing at her sister 'she is grumpy ' making Ria giggle.
Sania looked at them with a desire to slap the shit out of all of them, but she composed her urge and instead went upstairs to get ready, mostly just because she wanted to get away from them at that moment.
When she returned, she noticed that Jungkook was no longer in the kitchen and that made her feel relieved.
"Let's go, Sania," Jimin spoke as soon as he saw her and quickly got up from his chair, heading to take his black leather briefcase. Then he proceeded to wait for her by the door as she rushed to bid 'good day' to her sister, and then she followed him out the door.
"How did I end up actually going? Agh~ " Sania complained as she walked out of the house and towards his car.
Once inside, not many words were exchanged, aside from him reminding her to put her seat belt on. And certainly, Sania felt thankful that the ride was filled with the sounds of the radio rather than more awkward conversations.
She had spent the whole day with him at work, and fortunately, there he behaved more seriously, a thing that she was relieved over, cause her heart can really not take much when it came to him and his so-called jokes.
Even a small smile was able to make her heartbeat increase; even the simplest words could make her love him more, and that was not good at all. Yet she thought she had concealed it well enough, as she had not run to hide anywhere yet, nor had she let her mouth say anything inappropriate. Yes, yes, she had praised herself at the end of the day, for behaving like a normal, unfazed person would.
It almost gave her motivation that maybe, being normal and not getting affected by his existence would be easier than she had thought it would be.
They returned home at around 21:00, and to Sania's surprise, once she entered, she noticed that the lights were all turned off.
Where did Sis go? At this hour, she should be home.
She wondered as she looked around and proceeded to switch the lights on, while Jimin just walked in and casually took off his jacket and loosened up his necktie. A move so simple, yet he really looked too attractive while doing that.
Or in her eyes, so it seemed.
"Ehmm, do you know where my sister could be?" Sania reluctantly addressed him, and he gazed past his shoulder to face her for a moment.
Once again, he looked too hot while doing that.
Damn, just why? Does he ever look ugly?
She cursed at herself and her own thoughts for finding everything he was to do attractive. Sania felt like she was under some kind of spell or some black magic curse. A spell that was making her go against her logical thoughts that kept screaming to her that it was wrong of her to view him in that light.
"Didn't she tell you? She will be gone for two days on a business trip to Japan." He calmly stated but his words made her feel anything but calm.
Two days alone with him??!! WHY!!
She couldn't help but feel her panicking feelings rise, making her not know what to do. Feelings that started showing as she started pacing up and down, forgetting the presence of Jimin, who was now staring at her in confusion.
Once she noticed his stare and realized that she was acting weirdly, she stopped immediately, looking around awkwardly, lowering her head, and cursing under her breath.
"I-I will go make us dinner then." She finally found something to utter and divert his attention elsewhere. She spoke those words with enthusiasm while avoiding looking at his eyes before quickly making her way upstairs to change her clothes and prepare something to eat.
When she came back, Jimin was no longer in the living room, a thing that sure was pleasing to her, and a small exhale of relief had managed to escape from her lips before she finally made her way to the kitchen and started cooking dinner.
She pulled out her phone, scrolling for cooking tutorials, as she wasn't that good at cooking without instructions. Then, after she found one that looked delicious and easy enough, she started preparing the meal. She was halfway done when a slight coughing sound caught her attention making her lift her head and meet with a wet-haired Jimin who seemed like he had just finished taking a shower.
Sania's heart was almost flying off her chest only by glancing at him, so she quickly lowered her head again and pretended that she had to stay focused on what she was cutting.
However, she couldn't help but struggle to throw away completely the thoughts of him that were dominating her head. The feelings that filled her heart whenever she was around him were just too many. The love she had been waiting to meet again for years was in front of her, but she had to ignore him, and that sure was not an easy task, as it wasn't an acheless one as well.
Because she had surely felt heartbroken after hoping to find him for so long, only to be proved that she couldn't be with him. Her emotional state was not at its best after that engagement party, no matter how much she tried to escape from those feelings and avoid thinking of them. Yet just like at that moment, she slipped inside those thoughts unwillingly way too often. However, this time, something broke that trail of thoughts too abruptly as she suddenly felt a pair of hands getting wrapped around her and bringing her into a warm back hug.
Sania couldn't help but freeze at the fact that he was right behind her, and he had initiated such an action. A position that soon made her hands start to tremble and her heart go wild, almost to a point that she could swear she couldn't feel her own heartbeat anymore.
He leaned closer, letting his chin lie on her right shoulder, and then, slowly in a rather seductive voice, he whispered.
"You smell just like that night."
