(PETER POV)
That's what I'm talking about.
One Day Earlier
2 am
Sneaking out of the room was harder than I thought.
I stared up at the ceiling, listening to the soft sound of Y/N's breathing. It was hard to tell if she was still sleeping, but Shuri said to meet her in 10 minutes.
I crawled slowly out of the bed, and scurried across the room in haste. My mind was too frantic and distracted to sense anything in the darkness, so I let out a help of pain as I slammed my toe into a suitcase.
"Jesus," I whispered, "that freaking hurt."
Hoping the careless noise wasn't enough to wake my sleeping girlfriend, I ran out of the room and down the hallway.
Halfway through my journey to the laboratory, I heard the familiar muttering of Y/N's voice. She seemed to be talking to herself, and I hung my head in disappointment; clearly she knew I was hiding something.
Once I reached my destination, I noticed Shuri was banging away at something with her hammer.
"I thought you had upgraded technology," I said, "aren't those things outdated?"
"This was handcrafted by some dwarf in a star," she explained, "it's not just an ordinary tool."
"Right," I said, fawning over the hammer, "anyways, we have company."
As if on command, a buzzing sound came from the hallway, and Shuri and I both turned around to look.
"Yes Miss Stark," a voice rang loudly out into the space.
Shuri nodded her head in understanding, and puffed out her lip to speak.
"Did you hear that?" She said, pretending as if she didn't know who it was, "you promise that she was sleeping?"
"Yeah," I played along, "she was when I left."
"Good. Come here."
She motioned for me to come near the object she had been working on, and held it up.
Earlier that day, I asked Shuri to help me with something. After the detour through the museum of wakandan history, I began to fall in love with the country. Everything about it seemed so perfect, and now I was planning on staying here.
With Y/N, of course.
On the other hand, I wanted to give something to Y/N as a thank you. Thank you for bringing me back to life kind of thing. My plan was to give her a small keychain, seemingly nothing special, but it had a secret inside of it.
Shuri held up the blue locket on it's chain, and tapped the side of it twice. Similar to Nano-tech, it rippled away to reveal a small projector. A holographic image of Tony, Y/N, and I in front of the tower spun around as if on display.
It was the last photo we had taken of the three of us, and I knew it meant a lot to her.
"Woah," I sighed, happy with the results, "that was crazy."
"You like it?"
"Hell yeah, my only problem is if Y/N finds out."
I won't lie, I said that on purpose. I knew the girl was on the edge of her toes, listening into our conversation, but I couldn't help it. I thought it would increase her excitement for my gift, but I didn't realize she took it the wrong way.
"And if she does?" Shuri said, catching my drift.
"She'll freak out. I'm freaking out right now, I'm not sure if this is a good idea anymore."
Oh, it was a great idea.
I could almost imagine the two of us starting a family here in Wakanda, living a cute apartment downtown. I'd miss Queens, sure, but I'd love it here more.
We both would.
******
She didn't like it.
Not at all.
The look on her face as I told her the truth was almost scary. She seemed horrified about the plan, almost disgusted.
Except I couldn't tell if she hated the idea of Wakanda, or the idea of starting a family.
God, I wished she'd understand.
___
Y'all be like "ENGAGEMENT RING" but I finessed the system with a keychain.
