Chapter 6

Jessica awoke to find Carmen was already gone. She glanced at the clock by the bed, 10:30a.m. Jessica cursed quietly at herself before heading downstairs.Ashlyn smiled at me. "Morning, Jesse." She said, handing her a cup filled with tea.
"Morning, Ash." Jesse said with a small smile before taking a sip. Ashlyn was one of her best friends in the world. Jessica's known her all her life. If there wasn't eight years in between them the Clave would have let Jessica stay with Ashlyn in L.A., but seeing as she was fourteen at the time and Jessica was six it couldn't happen.
"So." Jessica leaned over the counter toward Ashlyn. "A little bird told me you're twenty-five today, and that you are spending it alone." Jessica said with a devilish smile.
The sickly, sweet smile appeared on Ashlyn's face as she laughed. "The girls are back in a different city?" She asked raising an eyebrow.
Jessica nodded. "We have to let me change first thought."
Ashlyn clapped her hands together like a little child. "Okay."
"Early start?"
"Sure."
Jessica smiled, "I missed you,  Ashlyn."
"I missed you too, Jess."
Roughly ten minutes later the girls arrived at the Institute. They came face to face with Jace, Alec, and Clary. The blonde and brunette looked up at the three expectantly.
"Where the heck have you been all night, Jesse!" Alec demanded. "And please tell me that's not a mundane." Alec glanced at Jace and Clary remember how she came into everything.
"First, non of ya business, Al, and second she's not." She smiled proud of herself.
Alec gave her that look that means we're not finished yet, before speaking. "Who is she then?".
"I'm Ashlyn Olsen." She introduced herself with a small wave.
Jace laughed. "Your the girl who took in the Branwell kid." He said as if memorized.
She nodded her blonde head, "That's me.".
Clary yanked on Jace's arm like a little inpatient girl. "Jace." She said, more of a whine.
Jace chuckled looking down at the red head. "Patience, darling."
Jessica smirked and shook her head. "What's the matter, Red, he not listening to you?" She asked sarcastically. She didn't know why she didn't like Clary, or even for that matter why she couldn't remember her name half the time.
Jace grinned at the brunette. "Oh, Jesse, always quick." He mumbled under his breathe.
"Come on, Ash." Jessica grabbed her hand and pushed through the three teenagers.
When safely in her room, Jessica let go of Ashlyn and headed straight to the closet.
"What should we do today?" Ashlyn asked tilting her head to the side, causing blonde curls to fall.
"Sup to you, Birthday girl." Jessica answered walking into the bathroom and shutting the door.
Jessica came out five minutes later in black skinny jeans, a purple sweater, and black heeled boots. "Have you decided yet?" She asked plopping down in her bed next to the blonde.
"I know it's not L.A., but I'm sure there's some kind of club here." Ash laughed. "But for now let's go shop."
Jessica grinned at her before getting up.
"Jess...." Ashlyn stopped her by grabbing her hand. "It's really nice what you do for Carmen.".
Jessica glanced over her shoulder at her.
"Letting her call you Mom and all. After her parents dead in the battles." She finished.
"Yeah, I try."
Ashlyn slowly got up and followed Jessica out of the old church.
They had been shopping for about two hours when Ashlyn turned around to gave Jessica with a puzzled look.
"What?"
"Rory's last name was Branwell, am I right?"
"Yep."
"Was she related to him?" Ashlyn asked turning to rack of dresses.
"I don't know, Ash." Jessica lied.
"Now can we just look at clothes? Please?" She begged wiping away a fallen tear.
"It's been a year, Jesse." Ashlyn pulled her into a tight hug. "I know you miss him.".
Jessica gladly excepted the tight embrace.
For awhile neither one said anything until Ashlyn gasped.
"There's a man staring right at you, and he doesn't look friendly." She whispered into Jesse's ear.
Jessica quickly spun around to see non other then Magnus Bane.
She put her hand back to make sure Ashlyn was behind her.
Magnus slowly made his way toward her. "You survived thanks to Alec." He sighed. "Rory would be proud, and so would little C......" He was cut off by Jessica placing her hand over his mouth.
"Shut up, Magnus." She growled. "Don't you ever tell me what he would and wouldn't be.". She removed her hand only to grab Ashlyn's. She made her way out of the store, and inside Ashlyn's car before the memory started playing.

"Why can't you see what I'm trying to do." Rory sighed running a hand through his dark brown hair. "I'm trying to do the right thing, Jesse.".
A fifteen year old Jessica glared at him over her cup. "Rory, please you're going to get yourself killed." She said.
"I won't, Jess. I will always come back to you." He said getting up from his stool and walking around to her.
"What if you don't!" She cried. "How am I supposed to do this on my own?" She asked.
He hugged her, "I'll be proud of you no matter what happens, Love.".
She Kissed his cheek. "I just love you that's all.".
"I love you too." He held her closer to him. "Besides Ash and Jo will always help you, and those people in New York.". "Promise me, Jesse, if anything ever happens to me you'll go back to Brooklyn, and take Oslen with you."
Jessica nodded, "I promise."
