Questing For Quests

Ten minutes passed after the Ninja were attacked by the chicken. Harumi went inside the Monastery to do who knows what, Master Wu went to his room to meditate, and the Ninja were training and trying to find ways to get back in shape.

In the middle of their training, Harumi came out to help them train. While doing so, they explained to her that they were trying to find a way to hone their ninja skills. She then asked them if they'd want to go on a quest. She did add that she didn't have one in mind. But then, Lloyd left to go find Master Wu to ask for advice.

Harumi shrugged and started sparring with Jay, "So, do you guys have any ideas in mind?"

"Nope... Nothing... Empty..." Jay flattened his brows while sending a punch to Harumi who blocked it.

"That isn't really helping, Jay." Nya mused as she fought Cole.

Cole sighed, "Let's just hope Lloyd can get some advice from Wu." Harumi shook her head at that.

Jay looked around and lost focus of his target. Harumi noticed and sent a kick to Jay's stomach, making him lose balance and fall to the floor. "Never let your guard down, Jay." She smiled, lending him a hand.

Jay chuckled as he got up, "How did you go from being a beginner to a master at being a ninja? Last I checked, you weren't as good when you came to the Monastery."

"Well... I trained, while you guys played video games and had parties."

Everyone kept sparring but Harumi stopped when she noticed Lloyd coming out of the Monastery. Cole spun on his head and fell flat on his face on the floor in front of Lloyd's feet, "How'd it go?" he asked.

"He's... in a mood." Lloyd frowned.

"Did he give you a quest tip?" Jay asked.

Harumi gave him a look, "A quest tip? Are you kidding me, guys?"

Lloyd shook his head, "No, he said we have to figure it out on our own."

"Well, he's right. Adventure does not come to the idle, it comes to those who seek it." Harumi repeated Wu's words.

"That's exactly what he said." Lloyd uttered.

At the same time, Kai exclaimed, "I've been thinking about it for five minutes straight, Harumi! I'm tapped out!"

"Five minutes? You've got to be kidding me, Kai..." The white-haired girl sighed.

Jay then suggested, "Maybe when we need a change of scenery. Sometimes ideas come to you better if you change your surroundings." One thing led to another, and now everyone, minus Harumi, was sitting in the hot tub again, "Nope, still nothing."

"You guys are ridiculous." Harumi spoke.

"We need a villain." Kai announced.

"What about Ultra Violet?" Cole suggested.

Kai looked in disagreement, "Uh, she was nuts. I'd rather face Killow."

"They're both incarcerated in Kryptarium Prison." Zane clarified.

Harumi sat on the wooden platform and shook her head, "I really don't want to see my old gang again. The last time that happened, we almost died."

"What about Master Chen?" Nya asked.

"The Departed Realm." Zane responded.

"Pythor?" Cole questioned.

"Whereabouts unknown. Locating him would require some effort." Zane explained.

Cole instantly jerked back, "Effort? Uh, no."

"And this is the problem." Harumi muttered, annoyed.

Kai got out of the water and sat on the edge, "Eh, finding a good villain is hard."

Jay scowled and snapped, "Let's face it, there aren't any villains left. Except well, um..." He trailed off, looking at Lloyd.

"Say it. My dad." Lloyd said in an annoyed tone. Harumi sighed at the remark Jay made.

"Wherever he is, he's not really a problem right now. Let's move on." Nya smiled.

"Who does that leave?" Cole asked.

Harumi waved her hands in an 'x', "None that I could think of from the top of my head."

"Maybe we're aiming too high. Maybe we don't need a villain. Maybe we just need like..." Nya paused to think, "A criminal or a gangster."

"Pfft. I'd settle for a bully." Jay scoffed.

"Perhaps we should check in with the Commissioner. We might be able to assist him in the prevention of some crime." Zane proposed.

Voiced of agreements chimed in from each of the ninjas.

"Yeah."

"Good idea."

So they flew in the Bounty and to the city to go to the police station. They dropped the anchor, startling some people around. They entered the Commissioner's office and Lloyd shouted.

"Commissioner!"

"O-Oh, wh-wh-what is it now? Robot Pirates? Lava Zombies?" He panicked.

"Huh?"

"No. Nothing like that. We just want to help you catch some bad guys." Lloyd said determinedly. Harumi looked at the floor with a sheepish look as she stood beside Lloyd.

The Commissioner calmed down, "Ohh. Well, actually, it's been pretty quiet around here. We don't have any outstanding warrants." After a pause, he decided to add, "Thanks to the Empress, Harumi."

All of the Ninja's attention went to her. She chuckled awkwardly, "Guilty." She bit her lip.

Ignoring her, Kai whined, "Aww, there's gotta be something for us to do."

"Hmm. Not really. Take a look at the board." He pointed at a blackboard.

Kai then spotted a small monster in the bottom-left corner, "Aha! Who's that?" He asked.

"Oh, that? Oh, that's a joke. Someone drew a monster."

"What about an escaped convict? Or a fugitive?" Nya queried.

"Nope. Nothing."

Everyone stood, watching Kai ask about any types of bad guys, "Um. A felon?"

"Nope."

"Hoodlum?"

"No."

"A crook?"

"Nope."

"Monster?"

"Nothing."

Everyone, except Harumi, sighed in disappointment. The door then opened to reveal an officer.

"Sir?"

"Oh, what's up, Jimmy?" The Commissioner greeted.

"Just got a tip about an illegal bootlegging operation down at the wharfs." Jimmy replied.

Harumi raised a brow, "An illegal bootlegging operation?"

"We got it!" Lloyd smiled as they all ran out the door.

"Yeah! You guys relax, we'll handle this." Kai added.

As they all rushed out the door, Jimmy's cap blew off and Harumi grabbed it and gave it back, smiling sheepishly, "Apologies for their childish behavior. I'll try my best to make sure they won't cause any disruptions."

The Commissioner tipped his hat, "Thank you, Harumi. Good luck."

She nodded and left with the others. The Ninja dashed off to their destination, only to run into a wall. Honestly, Harumi thought that they'd climb over or do something because they were ninjas, but no. She was literally trying her best to not cringe as they asked for directions. When they finally arrive at a door, they all pressed themselves up against the wall. Harumi was standing beside them, in case anything bad happens.

"Okay, on three. Kick open the door, storm the place, and take them down." Lloyd ordered. The others nodded and kicked the door down, "Freeze right there!"

Startled, a man held his arms up as the glass bottle he held fell on the floor, "Uh... You young fellas wanna buy some prune juice?" He asked nervously.

"Aww."

Harumi winced and came in, "Oh, our apologies, sir." She apologized.

Soon enough, they quickly took care of the misunderstanding and went back to the Commissioner's office, "There's gotta be something."

"An outstanding warrant? Unpaid parking tickets? Anything?!"

By luck, Jimmy opened the door again, "What's up, Jimmy?"

"Something about a disturbance at the Kryptarium Prison." He replied.

"Yes!"

"Jackpot!"

They all whooshed past him and Nya accidentally blew Jimmy's hat off. Harumi halted herself to grab it and return it, "Sorry again, sir!"

They set a course for Kryptarium and once they made it, they zoomed through the hallways. They stopped in front of the steel door, hearing grunts and yells.

Harumi, under her mask, had her mouth agape before saying, "I have to admit that this might be bad."

"Yeah... That sounds terrible!" Cole frowned under his mask.

"We better get in there!" Jay added.

Lloyd nodded and counted, "On three! One, two, three!"

They all crashed to the door and it broke down, making a loud clank when it landed. Turns out, all the conflict was just a recording, which made Harumi sigh in relief as she flipped her mask off.

"Shh!" A prisoner shushed them.

The noble looked back and smiled, "Oh, hi, guys."

"I don't understand. Where's the riot?" Lloyd asked.

"Riot? Oh, goodness, no. Just a little dispute. But we worked it out, didn't we, fellas?"

"I overreacted, and I apologize."

"And I'm sorry I expressed myself so poorly."

Flipping his mask off, Lloyd turned to the others, "Where now?"

"Do you think the prison cafeteria has... cake?" Cole smiled in hope. Everyone groaned in annoyance, knowing about Cole's cake obsession.

"Since we're here anyway, perhaps we should check in with Killow." Zane suggested.

"Yeah. Maybe he's up to something." Kai added as they started walking towards his cell.

Harumi trailed behind them with Lloyd, "I'd rather not go. I'm known as a traitor to the Sons of Garmadon." She frowned.

Lloyd smiled and grabbed both her hands, "Don't worry, Rumi. If anything happens, just look at me, okay?"

"Hmm, okay." She smiled back as they caught up to the others.

"Hello, Killow." Nya scowled.

Killow was facing the wall so he had to turn around. Surprisingly, he had a happy smile plastered on his face, "Oh, hi, guys. Good to see you, Harumi."

Not expecting a nice welcome, Harumi stuttered, "O-Oh! Uh, hi. Nice to see you too?" Her reply came out more like a question.

Nya ignored that and snapped, "Don't Oh, hi, guys. Good to see you, Harumi.' me. What are you up to?"

"Nothing. I'm just trying to finish up my painting. You like it?" He lifted up a canvas that had a decent painting of a puppy holding a stick of dynamite.

Harumi smiled, "It's... actually a good painting."

"Ehh, it's okay." Jay said plainly.

Kai took a closer look, "Uhh, why does the puppy have a stick of dynamite?" He asked.

"Oh, well, he's an angry puppy. But he's learning to control his anger, just like me. I find painting very soothing." Killow explained himself.

They all groaned and started leaving, "Thanks for nothing, Killow." Lloyd frowned.

Killow glowered at them as they left. Harumi placed a hand on the bars, "Don't worry about them. They're just irritated because they can't find any action." She clarified.

Chuckling, he said, "I understand why you chose this path now."

"I'm glad someone from the Sons of Garmadon changed paths like I did," She hummed, "How bout UV? How's she doing?"

He shrugged, "She's still crazy. I don't think that woman will ever change."

"Knowing Ultra, that's most likely true. Well, I've got to go, see you around, Killow." She then chased after her group.

"See ya, Harumi."

Back at the office again. Harumi was standing beside the Commissioner, looking at his model ship, while the rest of the Ninja were slumped in boredom. But when Jimmy opened the door, they instantly jumped up in excitement.

"Got a cat in a tree."

They smiled awkwardly at each other as Harumi chuckled, "I forgot about that." She smiled.

They left to rescue the cat. The little girl stood a safe distance from the tree in worry. The Ninja all climbed up the tree, but slowly, one by one, they fell. Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane. And Nya and Lloyd fell beside the pile. Harumi winced as they fell but she grabbed a hold of the cat and helped it down.

The cat jumped out of her grasp and jumped off of Zane and Cole as it went back to its owner. Harumi used the branch and flipped off the tree, landing perfectly in front of the girl. The cat jumped into the little girl's arms.

"There's your cat." Kai said in a muffled voice.

"Mister Whiskers!"

She then left. Harumi walked back to the pile and helped Lloyd up, "Cute, aren't they?" She asked.

"Yeah." He wiped the dirt off his gi.

The Ninja started getting up, groaning in pain, when they heard a scream across the road. It came from a bank. Without thinking, they all ran towards the source. Robbers were closing in on the innocent people.

Lloyd bursts open the door and all the Ninja rushed in as they started taking down the robbers. That was when a yell was heard.

"Stop! Cut! Cut! Cut! This isn't in the script! Who ought to write these changes?!"

All the Ninja stopped fighting and Lloyd muttered, "Oh, boy."

Harumi came up to the director with her hood off and apologized. The director screamed at her because he had already told her about making a movie here. The Ninja tried stepping in to back her up but she gave them a look that said wait outside. So they did.

She came out a few minutes later, sighing. They went back to the office, again.

They waited and every time Jimmy comes into the room, they get all excited. Only to be disappointed.

"Coffee spill in the break room!"

"Someone used the last roll of toilet paper."

"There's a bull in the china shop."

Then he came in again, holding a box of donuts. They all slumped back down, except for Cole who got excited by the donuts.

"I can't believe this is happening to us." Lloyd said while holding a donut.

"There is literally nothing to do in the entire city." Nya wailed.

Zane tapped on his chin, "Statistically, the absence of a single crime of felony in a city this size is remarkable."

"I wish I understood what you just said, but I don't." Cole flattened his brows.

Harumi groaned and translated Zane's sentence, "The fact that a city this big has no crime is unbelievable. That's what he said, Cole." Cole just stared at her in annoyance.

"How is it a city this size has no crime?" Kai stopped to look at the Commissioner, "And how is it that you're always working on that model ship, and never make any progress?!"

"What?"

"Oh, never mind."

Lloyd threw his donut and it landed on Cole's lap, "What is going on with us? We're getting loopy. We're ninja! We need action, suspense, danger!"

Jimmy came in the room, holding a stack of files, "You guys could help me with some filing." He offered.

"How is that dangerous?" Lloyd asked.

Jimmy stopped and turned around, "If you're not paying attention, you could get a paper cut." He said apathetically.

Harumi sighed and grabbed half of the files, signaling for the others to follow, "It'll test your focus, so why not? Come on, guys. It's better than doing nothing." She smiled.

They spent the rest of their time in the police station organizing files. Occasionally, everyone accidentally cut themselves with the paper, with the exception of Harumi. They all had at least ten paper cuts all over them.

After that was done, they said their goodbyes to the Commissioner and went back to the Monastery, not planning on going out again for the day. Walking through the large Monastery doors, they passed Wu, who was raking leaves.

"If I ever see another file again, it'll be too soon." Lloyd stated.

"Let's never do that again." Nya mumbled.

"So many paper cuts. I can't believe I lost to a filing cabinet." Cole replied.

Wu gazed at them slowly while humming.

Harumi, looking clean with no cuts at all, added, "Maybe you should've thought about it before losing focus on the task at hand." She teased with a giggle.

Wu then smiled, knowing that at least one of his students was still in shape and didn't lose to a filing cabinet. The Ninja went into the relaxation room and collapsed on the couches.

Lloyd let himself go limp on the couch, "Let's not tell anyone about this day. Ever."

"Okay with me." Nya sat with her eyes closed.

"Me too." Cole agreed.

"Me three." Jay scowled.

Harumi stretched her arms out before sitting on Lloyd's lap. He smiled and pulled her closer to him. She smiled back and placed an arm around his shoulder. Kai and Zane came in last, with Kai giving Lloyd a soda. Harumi stared at them before turning on the TV, Gayle Gossip was on.

"I'm here with Ninjago's foremost archaeologist, Clutch Powers, who's discovered an unknown pyramid buried deep in the Desert of Doom." She turned to the archaeologist, "Professor Powers, what can you tell us about the pyramid?"

Clutch Powers sighed with a frown, "Absolutely nothing, Gayle. I haven't been inside and I don't plan to."

"But... I thought-"

Clutch grasped her hand and held the microphone in front of him, "You wanna know what's inside? Traps, booby-traps. Bunkloads of them. Pitfalls and blow darts and fake tiles that collapse when you step on them. Big boulders that drop on you, no thank you." He explained.

After that explanation, Harumi looked at her friends and saw their curious gazes. Nya even woke up Cole who was sleeping.

"But... isn't that your job, as an archaeologist to you know, explore and go on dangerous quests?" Gayle Gossip asked.

"Technically, yes. What's your point?"

"Well, someone has to go inside."

Every next sentence Clutch Powers said, the more interested the Ninja got. Harumi focused back on the TV and heard the next sentence Clutch said.

"It would take a ninja to survive what's in there. Do I look like a ninja?!"

"No..."

"Point made." Then Clutch Powers left.

Lloyd scooted and placed Harumi beside him before jumping off the couch, "That's it! That's our quest!" He beamed.

Nya got up next, "I'll pack my bag!"

"Sunscreen! Bring lots of sunscreen!" Cole grinned.

"Ooh, this is going to be so much fun!" Jay squealed.

Harumi smiled at them being so happy and excited. Then, they, including Harumi, jumped up, cheering, "Ninja... Go!"

As they all left, Harumi sighed happily on the couch, "I'm lucky to have these people as family." She then got up and walked out to find her sensei, "Better go tell Master Wu about this."

After they all left, Gayle started talking again, "Well, there you have it. Gayle Gossip broadcasting from a mysterious secret pyramid, that's... gonna stay secret, because no one's going in." She then started walking away, angrily muttering, "And I got my hair done, especially for this case. What a bust." The camera then zoomed in to a picture of a serpentine.

Harumi came zooming into the room and grabbed the TV remote, "Oh! Almost forgot-" She almost clicked the off button but stopped herself when she saw the picture of the serpentine, "Wait, what...?"

She shook her head, not believing what she saw, "No... No, it can't be, right? It can't be the serpentine from my nightmares... Can it?" She muttered under her breath.

"Harumi! You coming or what?!" Lloyd called out for her in a happy tone.

Harumi then snapped out of her thoughts, "Huh?" She looked behind her and clicked the off button, turning off the TV, "O-Oh, yeah! Coming!"

She jumped off the couch, throwing the remote away, and it landed with a click. She ran towards her room to pack with her eyes closed, sighing before thinking, "No. I'm not going to let this distract me. I'm just being paranoid."

She opened her eyes and groaned quietly, "I hope."
