Chapter 15. Emer's night out.

Chapter 15. Emer"s night out.

She watched Cu Culainn as he tried to open the door.

It jammed.

He pulled and the door fell to bits.

He held his hand out to her.

She pulled back.

"Just a hand to help you across the rubble. Miss" He explained.

"But of course."

She said as if she knew what the hand was for all along.

She took his bigger than she expected hand.

It felt warm.

He guided her across the hall floor now littered with door rubble.

Into his house.

"Here."

She said handing him the copy.

"Thanks."

He smiled that perfect smile placing it in his jeans back pocket.

Kids practice hours on end to perfect their smiles for social media.

Somehow she knew he didn't.

His was all natural.

She felt a familiar heat in her cheeks.

God no not now she panicked inside don't look at him.

Jack! feck, why the hell is he here!

"How's it going there Miss?"

Jack greeted her with that damn cheeky grin.

"The worlds going to end and I'm here with you Jack, not going very well so far."

"So why does everyone think the world is ending?" Cu Culainn asked them.

"Haven't you heard?" She said but his blank expression told her he hadn't.

"It started with some sort off terrorist attack on the x star show here in Dublin. These three women showed up in the show-"

She fumbled in her bag and pulled out her phone.

Tapped to find U tube.

"Here."

She handed her phone to him.

Cu Culainn watched as the three goddesses appeared on the stage.

"They called themselves, the manderine." Added Jack.

"Morrigan." Corrected Tanta turning the phone off and giving it back to her.

"The Morrigan."

His answer surprised her.

He had heard of them before but how?

"Jaysus boy! What the hell is a Morrigan when it's at home?" Jack asked.

But Tanta seemed lost in thought.

She answered jacks question.

"The Morrigan is a war deity from irish mythology she is often depicted as a trio of individuals. Sisters who seduce men at battle driving them to their deaths. But these women can't be the Morrigan."

"Why not?" Tanta asked.

"Because gods don't exist. All religion is myth." She answered.

Tanta gave her a puzzled look.

"How do you explain them turning up and world war three is declared soon after."

"Coincidence." She answered strongly.

She felt disappoint.

That intelligence he processed she admired so much and yet he still believes in myths.

Maybe he's just a boy after all.

"I'm with Miss on this one boy." Jack agreed.

She wished he didn't.

"Since when like, did the Brits need a spell by a bunch of goddess to go to war. Like"

"Hey my Dad is British!" She sternly told Jack.

"Sorry Miss didn't mean to upset you." Jack apologised.

"That's ok Jack."

"Your grand Miss. I'm not prejudice."

"Good for you Jack."

"BUT THEY DAMN WELL ARE!"

He screamed.

She looked disbelieving at Jack.

"You fell into that one." Smiled Cu Culainn.

"Jack is prejudice to everyone who ain't from cork."

"That's not true Tano. " Jack smiled.

"A lot of langers on the south side of the Lee, boy."

Screams came from outside.

She found herself following Tanta and Jack as they went out the now doorless doorway to have a look.

Outside on his road neighbours screamed and pointed towards the night sky.

Missiles criss crossed drawing a web of smoke or a net of death upon the evening sky.

"By the Gods Miss Hathaway your right this is the end!" Said Tanta in shock.

"I told you before-" She gave out to him.

"Call me Emer!" She grabbed him pinned him to the wall and kissed the face of him.

"Legend boy!" Jack's mouth was open.

"Feckin legend."
