Emerald's POV
28 days left.
The days after that day was he'll. Melanie started doing her worst, I had been avoiding Drake ever since, I even changed seats.
This wasn't easy. I couldn't escape not riding in the same car. I had done that three times and he threatened to tell mum.
I stepped out of room and headed for the sitting room. It was time to leave, mum has.

"You should stop avoiding me Emerald". Drake said on our way to school.

"I never did". I responded staring at side of the road.

Melanie's POV

Lessons were yet to commence but Emerald was already in school.
Always early huh?

She descended from the stairs while I was waiting to trip her over. While she was in the mid stair I tripped her but she passed through me.
Oh my gosh!! What is she?

"What are you? A ghost?" I asked the fright not leaving unnoticed in my voice.

Unlike Emerald she ran.
Why is she running a lot these days? What was that earlier? Was it my imagination? Definitely not! She really did pass through me. I thought those only happened in movies.
I shook my head to clear the train of thoughts roaming through my head.

No, no, no. I've watched a lot of movies and I'm tired. That's it.

Emerald's POV

The school closed for the day. Thank goodness Mel didn't confront me. So unlike her.

I sat on my bed bored while Drake just barged into my room.

"Drake! What if I was naked?" I shrieked.

"We'll you're not. Besides if you haven't been avoiding me after I told you about my feelings for you, this wouldn't have happened. Why didn't you attend classes today?" He asked waiting for my response.

That's true. I didn't attend classes.
What a jerk. It really wouldn't have been nice if I was really naked.

"Fine. You want to talk. Then let's talk. Before you talk about having feelings for me how about you know what I am first". I say seeing his face laced with confusion.

"Emerald, what are you talking about?" He says exasperated.

"Look". He says coming closer to hold me but his hands passed through me.

I am really fading. My time is elapsing.

"Do you understand what's going on now?" I ask since at least he saw what happened.

"What's this?" He tried again but the same thing happened.

"What are you?" He asks.
I could see both fear and surprise skating his face.

"I'm Emerald. The difference is that I'm... I'm not human, so before you go having feelings, you should know what I am". I confess.

"So... You shouldn't talk about having feelings if I scare you".

He held me again but this time I was back to normal.

"What's happeneing?" He asked still not grasping the situation

"I'm half dead. In coma to be exact. You see..."

"I don't see anything". He interrupted.
"I don't understand what's going on so explain". He demanded for an explanation.

I explained everything to him in detail. We had to go the hospital I was admitted into for him to confirm though we had to sneak in.

It's a Saturday morning. Mum went on a business trip.

"How many days left?" Drake asked me.

"26". I respond.
Our school declared a two weeks break. Thank goodness.

"I've told you everything about your mum and dad".

"What about the picture. I need to see it". I say certainly sure I would find something.

"It's in my safe but I've forgotten the password to that safe. It's been long I operated it".

We attempted to unlock it with so many passwords.
Mum's birthday - wrong input
His birthday- wrong input
My birthday- wrong input.

What can it be?

"Isn't it too sudden? Seeing the picture might make you recollect bad memories". He explained.

"I'll vanish if I don't find those bad memories my caring doctor".
Note the sarcasm.

"I'm heading out". I inform him

"Where to?" Interrogations activated.

" For a walk, you won't join me?" I asked wearily

"Bye".

"Come back early. Mum isn't around". He warned.

"Yes dad!" I shout running out.

Later that night, Elder and I were on our regular resting area. The rooftop.
"Elder you promised to help". I reminded him.

"I am. If not for me, the master would have manipulated you a long time ago and you know I'm risking my life for you. I'll dissipate in your place". He informed.

"Stop joking around".

"How's the search going?" He asks concerned.

"I guess I'll really turn into bubbles". I joke but I really didn't take it as a joke.

"Not bubbles. You're not the little mermaid. You will dissipate". He said clearly so it could sink into my steel head but it really wasn't helping matters.

"I wonder who my dad would be?" I say lost in thought.

"Emerald". Drake called and I jerked back a little.

"I remember the password. It's unlocked!"

"It is?!" I almost yelled in victory but even if I find the picture I can't find the person within this short period of time. But where was Elder? He was just here.
Leave that for later let's go check the picture first.
A voice told me.

Getting to Drake's room.

"Here is the picture". He handed it to me.

"What was the password?"

"Your best number into four places".

Best number? What's my best number? I can only think of one thing.

"Zero?" I ask to be sure.

"At least you still remember that". He nods.

I take a look at the picture only to be left in the biggest shock of my life.

"Who did you say this is?" I ask to be certain.

"Your dad's picture. Biological dad".

"Biological dad?!!"

Elder is my real dad!

Seconds later, I start seeing Drake fading.

"Emerald! Emerald! Are you okay?"

He gets more blurry while he calls me.

I didn't even get to say I like him too.
But that's not the issue now. The issue is that I didn't get to bid Elder goodbye. Oh father!

Phew. I'm really rushing things because I'm tired of writing this book. I want to start a new story that is not superficial.
