Chapter 3||The Hunt Begins

"We are going to find the other," He said with a serious face. "And we need your help." Confidence shined and glowed off of my body as I smiled. This might be more interesting than I thought! I thought.
"Ok, I'm in!"

"So," Ross said, turning to face me. "You ready?"
I took a deep breath, "As ready as I'll ever be."
He chuckled, "Good enough." He knocked on the door in a certain pattern.
Knock, knock, knock, knock-knock.
My brain burst. That was the old knock-to-enter thing! I thought as the door was opened.
"Forgot your key again, Ross?" The boy that opened it said. Ginger hair, big brown eyes and a golden Z necklace. My smile widened as I realised who it was: Max.
"Ross!" He exclaimed, unable to stop his lips forming a smile. "You found Jess!" He stepped away from the door, allowing us in. Before he would close it, he took a quick glance around to see if there was anyone. There wasn't. He closed the door, bolting and then locking it.
"What's all the extra security for...?" I asked, tilting my head in confusion. I heard a sigh coming from the background, a girly sigh.
"We've got people that are after us," The voice said. It was quite high pitch, but not enough to burst anyone's eardrums, if ya know what I mean. "We've done some weird - dangerous, even - things to find you, Jess. But it was one-hundred-percent worth it." The voice stepped out from the shadows with a mischievous grin - it was one of those grins that make you wonder what the person is going on about. "Nice to see ya again!" Her light brown and honey blonde ombre hair shone in the sunlight as her brown orbs-for-eyes shined with life.
"S-Shelby?!" My eyes widened in surprise. Geez, I thought. Who knew one girl could change so much in just a year! Then, it hit me. It had been a year since I had last seen the clubhouse.
"The one and only!" I then heard a cough, sounding like it came from Max. I turned around to face him, with an expression that said, "What?".
"There's someone I'd like you to meet," He whispered something to Ross, who then nodded. Ross then whispered something to Shelby who began to giggle and nod. I stared at the three of them in confusion. What are they...? My thought process was then interrupted.
"Cheese!" Max yelled with somewhat passion in his eyes - and tone of voice. "You can come out now!"
"I'm in the bathroom!" I heard a girly voice yell back. "I'll be out in a second!" I noticed Max's face heat up in embarrassment. All of us began laughing at him, when a girl stepped out next to him. "I'm here now." She said as she put an arm around Max's shoulders. Max smiled warmly and we all stopped laughing and I looked at the pair with confusion - once again.
"Jess, this is Cheese - or Krista," He said with a wide, almost cheesy, smile. {Eh, eh? See what I did there? No? Oh, o-okay...T^T} "She's my girlfriend." She had long chestnut brown hair and warm brown eyes. She's so pretty... I thought, suddenly feeling out of place.
This reminds me of middle school - before I met everyone. I was always the odd one out; there was something different about me - that not even I knew at that time. Heck, if I had known what I knew now, I never would have tried to fit in. I'm a freaking superhero for Irene's sake! Those were the good days; middle school rocked. Not having to worry, just having the trouble of befriending the right people. At first, I was friends with people like Ivy Venom - worst mistake of my life, by the way. But, they taught me how to identify fake friends from real friends, so I guess some good did come out of my three-ish months of torture. After I had got fed-up of them, I left them, and we became arch enemies. But, I grew popular after that because I would be the only one who would stand up to them, since being friends with them gives you a pretty good advantage on knowing their weaknesses. And, then I met the Skyarmy; Adam, Alesa, Barney, Max, Ross, Shelby, Red and Jin. They were my best friends, but the day before we were supposed to start high school, I had to move away. My mom, Sylvanah told me something that day; that I wasn't her real daughter. She had adopted me from Lady Irene - I know! Irene The Matron. At first, I thought she was just joking around - pulling my leg - but it turns out I truly am the daughter of Lady Irene. And guess who my father/s are?!--
"Jess?" Shelby nudged me and I snapped out of it.
"Huh?" I mentally facepalmed as I turned my frown into a smile. "Nice to meet you. I'm Jess, a childhood friend of Max, Ross and Shelby." I noticed my voice cracking a fragment when I said 'childhood friend'.
"Nice to meet you too!" She replied with a warm smile. I could tell they were fake, though. "I've heard so much about you!" She then sent me a few glares, almost like she was jealous. I blinked a few times as I could feel the tension in the air, as it felt like it had thickened.
This is gonna be one endless hunt with her here... I thought.
"So, I'm guessing Ross filled you in on our mission?" Shelby said, quickly changing the subject.
"Kinda," I giggled. "He told me we were going on a hunt for everyone."
"Yes, we are," Max said, suddenly turning serious. "First stop; Pheonix Drop City, for Adam and Alesa."
"Makes sense," I said. "Since that is where we grew up."
"Exactly."
"This sort of thing, it fills me with determination,~" I smirked. Shelby and Ross facepalmed and Max's face turned red with rage. I let out another giggle as Cheese/Krista stared at us in confusion. "Max hates puns." I bluntly explained. She nodded with an obvious glare. I shook it off as I thought, Jealous much?!
"Hate?!" Max almost screamed. "Hate isn't even the right word!" Shelby, Ross and I glanced at each other, before yelling at him.
"Mad Max!" I could swear I saw steam coming out of his mouth and nose as we took off yelling and laughing like when we were little.
Small time skip - about thirty minutes.
"I need to go now," I said, putting down the bacon sandwich I was eating. "The girls will be worried."
"Ok, well, make sure you come back tomorrow," Shelby giggled. "We have a mission to start."
"Oh, and knowing you, you'll need this," Ross chuckled, tossing me a key. "In case you get here early, like you usually do." I smiled, nodding.
"Welp, wish me luck. Got two angry girls to deal with!" I giggled as beads of sweat dripped down my forehead. Everyone smiled as I left - even Krista.
Welp, I thought. Here goes nothing!
