Secrets

It's a bit obvious now, right?

Alex sat at the lunch table with his friends. The Schuylers were talking up a storm about something while Herc and Laf were being cute like usual. Alex was happy for his friends, it had been hell trying to get them together since both were so oblivious to each other's feelings.

Alex was starting to doze off when he heard one of the Schuylers mention Thomas. Alex quirked up slightly and focused more on what they were saying.

"Do you think Thomas is a hybrid?"

"I mean people are getting suspicious"

"If he was he'd get kicked out so fast"

They giggled among themselves when they too were hybrids. The amount of hypocrisy in this school was unreal but you get used to it. Alex didn't think much of it. He wasn't sure what to think of Thomas now. He was still his enemy but they were alike in so many things.

School went on as normal, well, as normal as it could get for a high school. It probably wasn't normal. Another kid was exposed for being a hybrid, forgot his name but it was probably something like Levi Weeks.

He felt bad for the kid but Alex doubt he cared, Levi made it clear that he never liked school anyways. Alex wouldn't be surprised if he exposed himself. Others have done so in the past. It's not like much could be done since there were laws protecting hybrids.

As it was nearing the end of the day, Alex put his stuff in his locker and headed on his way out. Alex noticed a crowd of people yelling something he can't quite understand. Then, in the midst of the yelling he heard a prominent 'STOP!' from none other than Thomas.

He raised an eyebrow and pushed his way through the crowd until he was at the front. A couple of students were trying to move Thomas' hair away from his ears to see if they could prove their suspicions. Inconsiderate and annoying assholes. It was easy to tell Thomas was about to get physical with this if they didn't stop. But that left the chance for him to be exposed another way.

Alex shut his eyes and carefully took some stored energy from 'Mary'. He's going to pay the price for that soon, but now wasn't the time to be worrying. He stormed into the circle.

"Hey! Leave him alone and get your asses out of here! Y'all are always doing some dumbass shit here instead of going home and playing on your stupid consoles." Alex says firm yet strongly hinted tone of anger.

A kid has the guts to say "What? You're defending a possible hybrid like the little bitch you are? Aren't you supposed to be crying to your mama right now?" The kid mocked and everyone laughed.

Alex stomped over to the kid and grabbed him by the collar and pulling him close, whispering some things that might happen if he didn't rethink his actions. The kid's eyes widened and he nodded in fear and back away, causing a wave of kids to leave.

Alex looked at Thomas, who was frozen in fear. Any hybrid would be if they actually cared about the future they had. "W-why would you help me..?"

"Despite you bullying me, I'm pretty sure you have a future ahead of you that you want to live to see" Alex said, raising an eyebrow as Thomas nodded. "T-thats a good point I guess"

Alex didn't point it out but he never did see Thomas so scared before. He was always used to smirks and insulting looks from the taller male. Thomas' whole demeanor was offsetting to Alex.

"I c-could've hurt them, but t-then I probably w-would've lost control.." Alex nodded in understanding.

Some kids who didn't leave were whispering stuff to each other and giggling, probably preparing to start a rumor. Alex looked over at them and they froze. Alex raised an eyebrow and glared at them, causing whatever conversation they had to be dropped. The kids then scurried off, unsure what would've happened if they stayed and they didn't want to find out either.

"Hurry along Thomas, or the big bad wolf might getcha" Alex said jokingly and turned around to walk away, leaving a slightly flustered Thomas behind.

Thomas walked down the street.

"Why would he help me..? I mean sure we have some things in common but that doesn't justify anyth-"

Thomas was cut off with a person jumping on his back. Thomas immediately hissed in surprise. That hiss would definetly cause him some problems.

"It's just me ya tall dork" Thomas smiled, recognizing James' voice. "I heard what happened today, did that Hamilton kid really help ya?"

Thomas nodded and James gasped. "Are you blushing?" Thomas didn't even realize the heat that had rushed into his cheeks. "N-no!" James dashed in front of Thomas and grinned. "You are!"

"James no"

"James yES" He giggled and hugged Thomas. "Someone has a crush~"

"James no I don't, he only helped me one because..." Thomas took a deep breath. "...becauase he knows"

James froze, looking up at Thomas. Any silliness he had gone. "He knows?"

Thomas nodded.

"...is he one too?" Thomas nodded, looking down. "It's why he always has a beanie on"

"Oh...oh god" A grin crept up James' face. "That's another reason for you to like him!"

"James!"

"Face it, you like him"

"No I don't, stop talking before I suck your blood"

James giggled and skipped along, Thomas trailing. "I wouldn't mind that one bit"

The two cracked jokes all the back to Thomas' house.

The two were unaware of the person listening in on their conversation from behind. They grinned and walked off, they were gonna have a really fun time with this information.
