EPILOGUE

[ a l i n a ]

"I refuse to believe such a thing," Damian clasped his hands together, sitting in front of me. I refused to even glance at him; he was bound to explode anytime, the fury behind his eyes is evident.

"You're telling me, a man from the future has visited you, and predicted your death?!" He shouts now, and I flinched, shutting my eyes. I stand, reaching towards him carefully. "Please calm down."

"You're not going to die."

"What if I am? What if that's inevitable?" I can hear my voice breaking, on the verge of tears. Knowing that it's possible Damian and my future child will live on without me.

"Then I will climb down to hell and trade my soul for yours." For a moment, everything was still. Eeriness filled the air, as I took on each word he said.

"Don't." I warned him, my voice as cold as death. For a moment I thought I caught a flicker of desperation burning in his eyes.

"So much shit keeps happening to you. When will it end?" His voice is now strained, almost pleading.

"I wasn't even supposed to live. I-" Damian cuts me off, rising his hand. His eyes mirrors his anger, and his voice is now shaking. "Don't." It was his turn to shut me up.

He's right.

"We will find a way. We always do." That, he is right. We always do. No matter what. And somehow, he made me feel okay with all of this. Knowing he'll be by my side. Fighting along with me.

"You're not going to die." He repeats, and I nod. I stand up, sitting over to his side and lay my head on his shoulder. I believe his words.

Damian softly places a kiss upon my forehead. Everything's okay.

The door opens, revealing Marcus. "The jet is here." He mutters, a solemn look on his face. We're finally leaving.

Damian squeezes my hand before standing, walking over to Marcus to shake his hand. "Be careful." Marcus whispers, eyes sliding over to me. Concern.
"Always."

My heart broke for the man standing in front of me. He's done everything for me and my brother. "I wish you happiness, Marcus."

"As do I, Alina," His voice breaks, pulling me in for a hug. "Your father would have been proud. I know I am." He lets me go, unshed tears in his eyes. He glances over to Damian and takes him for a friendly embrace, before letting go as well. "Take care."

My eyes trailed after him as he left. We were now once again alone, and I can feel Damian's hand snaking to my waist, pulling me closer. I let out a chuckle, glancing over to him.

His eyes gleamed, and for the first time in a long time; I thought I saw happiness, amidst  the madness.

"Alina?" Damian murmurs into my ear, softer than ever, his voice laced with tenderness.

"Hmm?"

"You won my heart."
