Pizza Parlors and Unexpected Visitors

~Cytheria
Blake and I make our way through the icy, cold, rainy streets with the hoods of our sweatshirts pulled up and our arms wrapped around ourselves. I stay extra close to him to be able to keep warm from his body heat.

"Cy why didn't you bring a heavy jacket?" He asks.

I laugh a little even though it's muffled through my chattering teeth.

"Because I didn't have time. You practically picked me up and carried me out of the house." I laugh out.

"Well, I did pick you up and carry you out of the house. But in my defense you were taking ages!" He exclaims.

"Oh come on, I had literally just walked in the door and set my purse and keys down geez." I shoot back at him.

All it takes is one look and we're both laughing together at our silly sibling bickering.

We walk a little more while still laughing until we find ourselves in front of Steve's Pizza Parlor. We're supposed to meet the rest of the gang here. It's our usual spot.

"Well, we might as well find a booth instead of standing in the rain." He says quietly.

I nod my head and we walk side by side into the restaurant. When we walk through the door we are greeted by the owner.

"Hey! Blake, Cytheria your back! Your usual booth I'd guess." He says with a smile.

We nod and walk over to the booth. The staff knows us so when they see us sit down they don't even bother to give us menus. Theresa comes over and gives me a water with two lemons and Blake a root beer float. Our usuals.

"So, are the rest coming too?" She asks in her sweet quiet voice.

"Oh, yeah. Excuse me Cy I'll be right back I'm going to go call them." Blake says while sliding out of the booth.

I smile at him and he leaves to walk out of the door. Theresa leans against the table and grins at me.

"What?" I exclaim.

"So, is Kale coming today too?" She asks with a smirk.

I roll my eyes and nod. "Yeah he's going to be late though. He's in a pretty tight spot and has been working a lot. Hasn't talked to me since the last time I saw him either." I take a sip of water and push the glass away. It makes me kind of sad. The two of us have been friends since we were in middle school.

She sighs and turns to take care of the other customers.

Blake walks back in through the doors accompanied by Krista and Nolan. The three walk to the booth and slide in. Krista sits next to me on one side and Blake and Nolan sit on the other side.

~Blake
While I was out calling everyone Krista told me to call Kale. I really didn't want to because I absolutely hate the guy, but Cytheria is really good friends with him. I called Kale and surprisingly he says that he can come. I'm both happy and mad because if he hadn't been able to come he wouldn't be moving with the rest of us. I'm only happy because Cytheria will be happy. Today I have to tell everyone that we are once again moving.

After finishing on the phone with Kale I wait for Krista and Nolan to come then we walk in together. Krista sits on the inside of the booth with Cytheria and Nolan and I sit on the other side.

A few minutes after coming in Theresa comes with sodas for both of them.

After exchanging a few whispered words I couldn't hear to Cytheria who shrugs in response she walks off to tend to other tables.

Cytheria's face is sad. It takes me a few minutes to realize why. I never told her that I called Kale.

"Cy, don't look so glum Kale's finally coming today. You should he happy to see him." I say.

She immediately looks up to me with a smile on her face.

"Did you really call him Blake?" She says excitedly.

I go to answer her but Krista cuts in.

"He only called Kale because I told him to. If I hadn't told him to he wouldn't have." She says smirking at the fact that she ratted me out.

Cytheria starts to say something to me. Probably trying to scold me, but she stops short with a blank expression. She looks shocked.

I quickly turn around in the booth to look at the door. Standing in the door is a boy with dark messy hair. His black leather jacket and dark blue jeans are worn out. Why does he seem so familiar?

Cy gasps and stands up. The boy smiles a little. Only the right corner of his mouth lifting a fraction and walks quickly over to her. Before I know what's happening the boy is hugging her.

"I missed you so much Cytheria." He says.

It's when he says that I know it's Kale. Wow, he's changed a lot. He looks so different. His usually bubbly expression is now emotionless, there are dark bags under his grey eyes, and it looks like he hasn't slept in months.

Cytheria steps back to look at him.

"Wow, you sure have changed a lot." She exclaims.

  He nods.

"Yes well it doesn't really matter. People change when they're away from their friends." He says quietly.

She looks at him with a concerned expression but sits down and motions for him to sit next to her.

He sits down and looks down at the table awkwardly as I glare at him. He almost broke my little sisters heart and no one gets away with that.

I attempt to break the awkward silence by asking Kale the question we all want to ask.

"So, Kale, what happened? Why did you leave so suddenly."

Kale only picks at the corner of the table nervously and Blake never breaks his glare on Kale's head.

"Well," he starts slowly. His deep voice immediately soothing most of my worries like it did when we were younger. "I was in a pretty rough spot. Since my parents died I was always short on money. It became so bad that I had... to... take some time away and focus on working."

He pauses to take a deep breath.

"At first I only had one job. Then I got two more. Then it became four. It was... it was hard. I was up all night most nights and when I did have time to sleep I couldn't. I..." he sighs. "I couldn't because the thoughts would never leave me alone. I thought that I was a terrible person for leaving you all. Especially you, Cy." He says. The last sentence barely loud enough to hear but I manage to catch it.

I'm taken aback. I didn't know how bad it was. My eye catches on Blake's expression. His eyes are filled with anger. He is fuming. It looks like he wants to reach over the table and strangle Kale.

I'm just about to calm him down when the front window smashes and a torrent of fire rips through the smashed glass. Kale immediately covers me with his body, trying his best to shield me from the flames but it's no use. The flames burn him and me. The last thing I see are four people running in through the smashed window and Blake and the rest of my friends quickly setting to action. For some reason the fire was only aimed at Kale and I. Both of us end up blacking out before I can think much of it.
