Author's Q/A (2)

As promised, I'm back with yet another author's Q/A. The following questions were sent by sumedhiansnehal01 a user

Thank you sumedhiansnehal01 for sending in the questions! I absolutely loved answering them. I hope the answers satisfy you too!

Without further ado, let's begin:

1. Did Himanshu's family help Saina's family to start a new life? And does he share a healthy brotherly bond with Saina now?

Ans: Well, to be precise, that is up to the readers to imagine what the after-ending scenarios are gonna be. I wouldn't want to say much about that because I've left this totally up to you guys to decide what happens to the characters once the story is over.

2. Did Sanchi feel bad for Ahaan when he died?

Ans: She may have felt guilty , considering she had seen him grow up beside her. But the thing is she had to protect her and Yash's cover so she did what Yash said.

Not so fun fact : The night of Ahaan's death , Sanchi was the one driving the car.

3. How did Saina feel after knowing about Avinash's involvement in Yash's mother's murder?

Ans: I would say she was devastated. She always saw Avinash as someone who was different than the rest of the people she associated with. She painted a pretty picture of Avinash in her mind, which was very different from how he was. I guess somewhere or the other, her own expectations hurt her the most.

3.  What's exactly the scenario between Zoya and Officer Ravi?

Ans: For that , you would have to wait till the sequel. Their relationship is explained in much more details in the sequel.

4. Why is Kartik living with his dad who cheated on his mom, and not his mom?

Ans: His mother felt detached with Kartik after knowing the truth about how he hid his father's infidelity from her. I guess she still has to work on her issues. So Kartik decided it was best he stayed back with his father, who apologized and redeemed himself in the end for him. He still visits his mother though.

5. How is Ahaan's mom after the whole incident?

Ans: Once again, that is up to you guys to decide how she is. In my story, I have focused more on the children and less on the parents, thus I'm not really sure what I should say about a character that I never had the chance to develop properly.

6. Did Alishka really love Yash (Daniel) ?

Ans: She fell for his mysterious charm , yes.

7. Can you tell us anything about the upcoming sequel of Secrets and Sins?

Ans: I can't say much but I will tell you that it is named Secrets and Lies. I've already made the book cover and drawn the character sketch. There are going to be a few more characters added to the original cast. The story will take place eleven years from now. The cast will all be around their mid-20's. And it is going to be a lot more gory and you can probably expect a blood-bath. So yeah, very excited about that too. It will probably be out by next year!

8. If you could be one character from Secrets and Sins for a day, who would you like to be?

Ans: Undoubtedly, Zoya.

9. Who is your favourite character?

Ans: Zoya and Himanshu.

10. Why does it feels like you don't like Siya and Kartik's  relationship?

Ans: That's absolute bs. I love their relationship. It's just that Siya, tbh, is the least favourite character of mine. Perhaps since the character is pretty much inspired from myself, I don't really like it that much. And I think the entire good-girl-bad-boy trope is extremely used at this point. So I often felt very bored while writing their scenes. But other than that, I love their relationship very much.

11. Did you have Yash as the killer in mind when you started the book?

Ans: The answer is a yes. I had planned on Yash being the killer from a very early on. However, including Sanchi was something I did later on. I was also inclined on Nikhil to be added to the killer gang, and I had a whole plot planned out, but then I decided to scratch that idea of since I felt that people would suspect him very easily. At one point, I even considered making Veronica be involved with Yash, but then also scratched off that idea since I wanted a good ending for her and Himanshu.

12. Whose death was the hardest to write?

Ans: I would like to say Ahaan since we knew him the best. He was a very sweet character, and killing him off was quite hard. I would also like to add Alishka and I know that most of you are probably raising your eyebrows at me rn but hear me out. The thing with Alishka was that we never got to see how she died. She was abducted in the woods and we don't know anything that happened to her after. All the chapters that led up to that night, were very interesting for me to write. Her POVs were actually my favourite to write, so yeah, when I had to stop writing her POVs, it really made me sad.

13. Do you think Yash's motive was strong enough to do what he did? Were your readers satisfied with the motive reveal?

Ans: I can't give you the answer to the second question. However, what I can say for the second question is that what I have understood after watching hundreds of true crime documentaries and podcasts, is that a killer doesn't need much of a motive to kill. Even a single small trivial thing can set them off on a killing drive. Psychopaths don't need a concrete reason for killing. They do it for the trivial reasons. That is why they are called psychopaths.

Yes , while I agree that Yash should have stopped with the deaths of Alishka and Avinash, I also understand why he did what he did with the group. He became addicted to the power that the misery of the group gave him. He became obsessed with the game. He started thinking of them as his puppets, doing what he wanted them to do. He felt powerful. And I think that's what justifies or even attempts to justify the storyline.
