Part 2- Defying Death

Kerric's POV

I lied on the bed in the small cramped room I was given to share. I stared at the ceiling, tossing a small up and down. The night sky filled the room with a ominous light. I then gently put the ball down on the dresser and looked over at my roommate.

At least I'm sharing this room with a friend.

Across the room sat Dalton on his bed. He had a notebook out and seemed to be writing something.

"What are you writing?" I asked.

He looked over at me, glared, and shook his head.

"Okay. Geez."

I sighed. Everything felt out of place. We were all just suddenly scooped up and dropped off at some strange place. To top it off, all of our parents agreed to this.

Why would they agree to this? I don't think my parents would suddenly agree to something like this. Something is going on here and I intend to find out!

With that, I grabbed a flashlight and departed.

Kassy's POV

I left my room late at night, gripping a small flashlight in my left hand and a small bag in the right. We were told not to leave our rooms whatsoever but I could not sit still. Something was off, very off. Curiosity took over me. I left my roommate, Leslie, in the room for she was sound asleep. I quickly darted through the halls of the dormitory. Floor boards creaked as I moved due to the age of this building. Moonlight illuminated the halls, so there was no need for my flashlight just yet. I saw a flash of light and quickly darted to the side, trying my best to mask my appearance. The light grew closer. At that moment, I knew I would be caught.

"Kassy? Is that you?" quietly asked a voice.

I immediately recognized who it was.

"Kerric?"

I turned on my light and flashed it directly at the figure. I breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of my tall, disheveled friend.

"What are you doing out here?" he asked.

"I could ask you the same thing." I retorted.

"Whatever." he replied. "Let's get moving. I heard voices coming from the other way."

I quickly nodded and followed his lead. We ran down two flights of stairs before ram the front door opened. We were now outside. The atmosphere out here was eerie. I then looked up at the sky. The moonlight sky glowed brightly with a reddish tint. The dead trees surrounding the area only added to the already creepy atmosphere.

"What are you looking for?" I asked Kerric.

"Answers." he replied. "I want to know why we were taken here and if it has anything to do with the text message we had received."

  I nodded in response.

So he is looking for the same thing as me. That is good at least.

I turned on my flashlight once more and began canvasing the area along side him. In the distance I could see what appears to be a fire.

"Kerric." I quietly shouted.

  He walked over to me.

"Look."

I pointed out into the distance.

"Let's check it out." he stated.

We both quietly walked through the wooded area, slowing approaching our destination. As we got closer, we were able to make out what looks to be hooded figures surrounding a large bonfire. We ducked down behind a few bushes and slowly peeked up.

"What are they doing?" asked Kerric.

"Shh." I say.

Now that we were so close, we could see that there was a boy tied down with a burlap sack over his head. One of the hooded figures got up on a cut down tree stump and began to address the others.

"My fellow matriarchs! We are here today to give new life!" powerfully yelled the hooded figure on the stump, who had a deep feminine voice.

"New Life! New Life!"  chanted the other figures.

"This boy will be the first to transgress into his true form. We'll help him give birth to his new self! His new life!"

"New Life! New Life!"

The figure in the stump removed the burlap sack off of the boy's head. Simultaneously, we both gasped.

"Isn't that..." started Kerric.

"JD..." I finished. "I-I didn't know he was taken here too."

JD's eyes slowly opened  as the hooded figure withdrew an ruby encrusted blade from it's sheath. He began to scream.

"Now enter your new life young soul!" shouted the hooded figure as the blade was plunged into JD's chest.

We both gasped and nearly screamed at this horrific sight. JD's screams were loud and unruly. Then, they stopped abruptly as it seemed that all life was drained out of his body.

"Now." started the hooded figure. "Return to us in your true form!"

JD's eyes opened suddenly and glowed and ominous red. He began to cackle and gurgle as his body jolted into multiple positions. Then, horns had suddenly started to grow out of his head. His fingernails and toenails morphing into sharp claws. His shirt ripped as dark, black demonic wings grew out of his back. We were both horrified by what was happening. JD was no longer human. He was a demon, a creature of the night.

When his gurgling had finally stopped, his body settled. He cocked his head into different positions. Then, suddenly, his eyes locked with mine.

 Oh no. He's spotted us!

  I tugged on Kerric's hoodie.

"We have to go. Now." I said quietly.

Kerric nodded in reply. As we turned to leave, we heard an unruly, demonic scream. I turned back to look. JD had broken free of his restraints.

"STOP! STAY!" shouted the hooded figure.

JD pounced from where he was being held and charged right at us.

"RUN!" I screamed.

We both took off in a mad dash for our lives. He was closing in on us. We were close to the dorm as it's shape became visible from the brush. As we made it into the clearing, I tripped collapsed onto the hard, gravel ground.

"KASSY!" yelled Kerric.

As I rise to my feet, JD comes rushing in, growling loudly as he tackles me back onto the ground. His sharp claws dig into my arms. I cry out in pain. Kerric then comes rushing over and hits him with a fallen tree branch. JD jumps off of me and hisses at Kerric. Kerric then quickly helps me up to me feet and we rush into the building and slam the door behind us. We look out the window and watch as he continuously rams the front door. Then, suddenly, he looks off into the distance, spreads his wings, and flies off.

"Kassy, you're bleeding." states Kerric as he stares down at my arms.

"It will be fine." I say as I grimace in pain. "Kerric, I need you to promise me something."

"What is it?"

"Promise that neither of us will speak of what has happened to anyone."

"But don't our friends deserve to know!?"

"I know but what will say? Will they believe us? We need more evidence first. We have to find out what is happening before we utter a word of this. Kerric, trust me and promise that you won't tell."

"What about your injuries!?"

"We'll lie okay!" I shout. I then take a deep breath and say, "We'll figure out together. So, please, just promise."

"Fine. I promise."

"Good, now go back to your room. I'm going to patch myself up."

He reluctantly nods and gives me one last glance before leaving. I then start heading back to my room.

I hope he doesn't speak of this. We can't tell anyone. Not yet. Please, Kerric, keep all of our secrets and lies.
