Part 1- Shifting Tides

Kassy's POV

The day started off like any other. I sat on the bus next to my best friend, Leslie Diaz. She was listening to music while I scrolled through my phone. I shut it off so I can lay back and relax before I got to school but then, my phone buzzed. I picked up and turned it on. I received a text from an unknown number. I clicked on it and read it.

"You have been chosen. Be prepared."

The text made me shiver. I nudge my friend. She Removed here earbuds.

"What's up, Kass?" she asks.

  I showed her my phone.

"God that's creepy. Block that number and don't worry about it."

I nodded and did as she said but an eerie feeling stayed with me. I put my phone away and leaned back, trying to shake off this feeling. A few moments later, I see a flash of light beam from my friend's phone. She unlocked and looked at the screen. Her eyes widened.

"Kassy, look."

I turned my head towards her phone and stared at the small screen. I gasped. She had received the same message as I.

"Whoever this is a a real creep." she states as she blocks the number.

We both sit back and sigh. Whoever this was, I had a feeling this would not be the last time we hear from them.

As the bus pulls up in front of the school, we stand up and exit. It felt better to be off there and to move around. We walk into the cafeteria where we join our friends.

"It was freaky." says Kerric as we walk over to them. "What kind of person sends a message like that."

"What message?" asks Leslie as she takes a seat, plopping her bag down onto the table.

"I got a message from an unknown number saying, "You have been chosen. Be Prepared." It is just so damn creepy."

Me and Leslie exchange glances as our expressions darken.

"Me and Kass both got the same message." she states.

"What? Really?"

  We both nod.

"Well, whoever this is should stop. It is probably someone in the school playing a joke on us."

"You are probably right." says Leslie.

  Suddenly, the intercom goes off.

"Will the following students please report to the front office, Kerric Sherman, Leslie Diaz, Dalton Mongeau, Kassandra Whitfield...."

After my name I stopped listening.

Why would I be called to the office? I just got here.

We all grab our bags and head down to the office. When we enter, there are also a few other kids in there as well. We walk over to the person we all know, Dalton.

"Do you know why we are down here?" Kerric asks Dalton.

  He shrugs his shoulders.

"Oh well." says Kerric. "We'll find out soon enough."

"ATTENTION!" Hollers a woman, who is standing in front of the group.

Her silky, long black hair compliments her tall slim figure and her emerald green eyes. She adorns a slick black open shoulder top and black ripped jeans. She looks as though she is in her mid twenties to earlier thirties.

"You have all been chosen." she states.

A shiver runs down my spine.

The text.

"Based on your student portfolio's and other information we have required, you all will be participating in a student exchange program of sorts. You all shall get on our bus and go to a special school for an undetermined period of time. To add to this, it is a boarding school so you all will be living their. All of your parents have been contacted and have agreed to this. All of your belongs have already been sent to the school. Now, precede to the bus outside."

Almost robot like, we all turned, exited the school, and got onto the bus. As we drove, less and less could I recognize the environment.

Where are we going?

We soon were in a dark, eerie forest. Behind all of those dead trees was a large, old looking building.

"That must be the school." states Kerric.

We all nod in agreement. As the bus halted, the woman told us to stand and exit. I look at the old building. It is even creepier upfront. Through a window I can see a glimpse of the students inside. They all look as eerie as this school.

"ATTENTION!" hollers the woman.

We all turn our attention towards her.

"I'd like to welcome you all to St. Helen's Academy."

At that moment I knew something wasn't right. Things were going to be different from now on. Nothing was going to be the same and in all honesty, I am scared.
