Secrets. A Resident Evil 6 Fanfic. (Sequel to Project: Laura)
My name is Laura Wong. No... Just. Laura. I don't trust my name. I don't even trust my identity. Why do I exist? There's nothing else left for me. Well, at least I'm still alive. Not sure if that was really a good thing or not considering the fact that I almost destroyed the world.
You're not really living if you aren't living the life you wanted to. I guess that I have been dead for a very long time now. Being treated as a bioweapon of mass destruction was something that would rank last on my list of expectations. I never asked for this life. I never asked for Wesker to just make a mark in my heart. Even if it was just for a very short while, I found something that numbed the bitterness of my history.
No use about that now since he's dead. He just used me for his gain. Just like all other people that knew him. Excella, Jill, Chris, even that bastard, Ricardo Irving gets a taste of Albert's betrayal. Now, with my existence hidden privately by the government, I found no way out of this life.
They need to keep me alive somewhat. Does that mean I'm an asset? Four years inside the Secret Service have I contemplated whether to just give up living. I mean, there's no cure for this thing. No way out of the apocalypse. I can't ever be just the way I was before. Normal. That very word sends a tingle down my spine as if I was forbidden to use that word to describe me.
The only reason I managed to still say this to you is because Sherry Birkin convinced me that there is always hope. A very bitter hope actually. Wanna know how she put it?
'If you can't save yourself, then save others instead!'
I personally don't know whether it was a selfish act or mine was the selfish one. She's probably right. Chris would probably have the same mindset since he spared my life.
"Hey, we're gonna be alright, hm?" Sherry reassured me as she notices me not talking ever since we rode the plane.
I have no idea what I'm doing. We just... Grab Jake and go back to Headquarters. That's... All? Something in the back of my mind tells me that it's not that easy. Like somebody has to die and all that shiz. Well, sitting in a plane was a bit comforting. At least it wasn't a submarine or a torpedo or anything that'll cause someone with claustrophobia running for the hills. What am I saying, it's still in mid-air so I felt a bit uneasy.
I could only nod as my whole body vibrated as the plane engine worked its purpose. My mind was a mixture of both excitement and horror for Wesker's son. Does he look like him? Does he even know?.... Would it be alright if I said I kissed his dad?
"Hey, Sherry..."
"Yes, Laura?"
"Do you think I should tell him?"
She was silent for a while, looking at me with her mouth a bit open. "What?"
"Nothing."
"Look, Laura, if I were you, I'd rather keep it a secret."
I was the one silent now. Which secret am I talking about anyway? That I loved his father or that his father once thought about destroying the world? Either one, she's right. Better just shut up about it.
"Alright, ladies," the pilot said as he landed the helicopter on the ground. "This is as far as I could get you."
"That's alright," Sherry replied, stretching her arms a bit. "We'll call you when we're at the rendezvous."
"Sure. Take care, you two."
The helicopter's blades soon began turning just enough for it to hover a few feet off the ground. The wind it made blew into our face, whipping it with dirt from the earth. Just as the pilot gave us another nod from his aircraft, a rocket suddenly exploded into it's rear tail.
Sherry and I ran away from the site, hoping to get enough distance from the possible explosion radius. The chopper got entangled in one of the trees and exploded some more which the pilot couldn't have possibly survived.
"Oh, my God, this country's screwed." I said to myself as i leaned my back against a tree, pulling the shaft of my handgun to see if there are any bullets.
"Let's just get Jake and find us a way out of here!" Sherry shouted to me, doing the same with her gun as well.
We both head towards the source of explosions, hoping to find the man who could be the answer to this problem.

"Sherry, in here," I whispered as I opened a building door to get us away from danger. "I think we'll be safe in here."
Sherry looked at me and went in first, checking to see if the coast was clear. I watched her back, looking to see if any hostiles are in sight. Seeing that nothing was wrong, I finally went in with her.
"I think this is their hideout, Laura." Sherry said, scanning the room littered with patches and weapons.
"Good. Now let's find that kid." I replied, taking an Assault Shotgun from one of the tables. "You should take one too."
"I'm good."
"Suit yourself." With that, I took a handful of shotgun shells with me and put it in my pouch and with a parting gift of two grenades, I have had my fill.
As I was happy with my stolen weaponry, Sherry shushed me. I peeked over one door she was looking at and there were about five men grunting and jerking as they injected themselves with something. Not needles. Anything but nee--
"Come on, Laura!" Sherry had already gotten to the other side of the door undetected. I quickly followed in after her as the men wallowed in their pain. We continued running until we reached a certain room. I was busy looking behind us for anyone who might have seen us as Sherry suddenly started talking.
"Did you take your dose?"
I looked in front to see the man we've been searching for.
"Yeah, but if you want your own hit, you guys better sign up with the lady downstairs."
There he is. How I quivered in the thought that I vaguely saw Albert in his face. His eyes focused on me, expecting me to say something. I didn't however, seeing that I was still wrapping my head on what I was seeing here.
"No question." Sherry said, checking her watch. "You've got the antibodies."
"Well, thank you very much. Wait, what?"
"You could be the key to saving this world, Jake Muller." Sherry started, getting straight to the point.
Suddenly, a group of guys appeared behind Jake, ending their conversation.
"Better save myself first."
Jake slid down first in the open chute leading away from the fray. I grabbed my gun and looked at Sherry. "I'll catch up with you. Go!"
Sherry nodded at me and followed after Jake. I aimed at the first pair of legs I saw and pulled the trigger. The rest of the men behind him came stumbling down over their leader. I smiled and slid down the chute.
I see the silhouette of Sherry at the end of the slide. "GANGWAAAAAAY!"
Sherry wasn't fast enough as I collided against her torso, landing in some cold sewer water. I immediately got off her, knowing that most of her body's drenched already.
"Sherry Birkin, United States--" Sherry managed to say as I helped her up, grabbing her badge to show it to Jake as validation.
"Yeah, but now's not really the time." Jake interrupted as he pointed to the still opened chute where we came from. Who knows how much time we have before this place swarms up with enemies.
"After you."
Jake looks at me again as I finished helping Sherry up. Did I do anything wrong? Was there something on my face? I felt like he knew me, given with all the staring time we had. He shrugged it off and went on ahead.
My heart gave away dread and it felt heavy once he turned around. Sherry immediately took notice of this. "What's wrong, Laura?"
"I... I don't think I can do this, Sherry."
"You can, Laura. Just bear with me for a little while."
My love for Albert was filled with both hatred and passion. It was complicated. And right now, he practically just manifested himself through his son, teasing me. Tormenting me. Haunting me. STOP IT!
"Come on, I ain't waiting for any straddlers!" Jake's voice rang out in front of us.
