8 - Two Birds, One Huge Stone.
Vincent's P.O.V.
Sat in the ambulance, mom was attached to every machine possible.
To be honest, we haven't really thought about dad since we got home.
Probably a good thing.
Lia sat in front of me, handing in all the pill bottles she picked up earlier before leaving.
The doctor leaned over to Lia and spoke softly so I couldn't hear.
I wasn't interested till I heard the word; "Suicide".
"Mom wouldn't have wanted to die!
She wouldn't leave us like that! Dad died, she... she probably wanted to feel better!
She didn't want to die!"
Lia reached around and squeezed my knee.
"We know mom didn't want to die... the doctor has to take everything into consideration...." she trailed off for a minute.
"Vin, when we get the the hospital, could you do me a favour?" She tried to look at me, but her seatbelt restricted her.
"Uhh... sure?" I wasn't so sure though.
"Mom needs stuff from home, but I don't want you to go that far, so could you get some things from downstairs?"
"Okay, what do we need?" I was hesitant but keen at the same time. I want to help mom.
"Blanket, socks, pants, pyjamas and food for when she's awake. She won't eat hospital food..."
"And some food for us too."
I wasn't very hungry at all after today, but I'm sure when mom wakes up we'll all want to eat something.
"Okay, I'll sort that as soon as we arrive - Where will mom be?"
The doctor stood and started un-hooking the bed from the ambulance.
"The intensive care unit - people will know it better as 'ICU'" he spoke in a deep voice.
He continued. "Your mom will have a room straight away so when you get back, just give them her name at reception, it's on the 3rd floor, block 12."
"Okay." The ambulance came to a stand still and the back door was opened to let mom out.
Lia and I left through the sliding door on the right.
She hugged me. "Remember what we need?"
"Yeah" I tried to sound enthusiastic, but it came out more sarcastic.
"You don't have to, but it will be easier if we get everything now, before mom wakes up. You know what she's like in hospital."
I'm trying to remember, but I don't. I don't think I've ever been to hospital with her.
Maybe we spoke about it once.
I started walking away.
"Don't talk to strangers!" Lia called out.
I managed a small smile as I turned back. " I won't!"
