5 - An Urgent Call
Vincents P.O.V
My phone was buzzing franticly, I couldn't ignore it any longer.
"Miss?"
She looked up at me, still a little hot from the ordeal with the exchange student earlier.
"Yes Vincent?" She sounded calmer.
"Can I take this call? I wouldn't normally ask but my phones been going off for the past 5 minuets and I think it might be urgent."
"Sure." She was blunt, but she handed me the green pass so I could stand in the corridor.
I ran out and caught the tail end of the vibration before it cut off again. It was mom.
"Sweetie, I uhhhh.... I have some not so good news." She had been crying.
"Umm, I..." She burst into tears.
"Mom, what is it?". I sounded a little panicked now.
"It's uh.... Its your dad." She wailed in tears down the phone. I started crying.
"What's happened to dad?" I asked, the words clinging to my throat.
"He's gone."
The world fell silent around me. Everything slowed down. I could hear moms muffled voice as I dropped my phone to my side.
I quickly regathered my thoughts. My throat as tight as anything.
"Mom, hang in there, I'm getting Lia and we're coming home." I hung up before she could reply.
I ran to Lia's class, not bothering to grab my bag and coat. It was silent, all I could hear was my frantic breath and the creaking of the floor underneath me.
I burst in the door, the senior class stared.
"Hi.... Uhhh... Lia, we have to go."
Lia stood up. The teacher was eyeballing me. It was Mr. Watterson.
"Where does she have to go Vincent?"
"I'll explain later." Lia was shuffling about packing her belongings away.
"No you won't. I will not have a student remove another student, family or not, from my classroom. Now tell me!" His words became uneasy, all the teachers seemed on edge today.
"I don't want to say sir." The tears filled my eyes, stinging.
"Speak up boy or I will have to report this!"
"MY FATHER'S DEAD!" I blurted out, crying and screaming at the same time. The words stabbed me in the chest.
Lia suddenly dropped everything and ran to me, hugging me.
She was crying too.
"It's okay." She whispered, trying to comfort me.
The teacher was red with embarrassment.
"Uhh, okay you can go."
We left, leaving the silence-filled classroom.
