10 - Tears Won't Help

Vincent's P.O.V.

As we made our way back up to mom, a doctor walked alongside us.

"I'm sorry we can't let you stay with your mom. All under 18's have to be supervised..."

I cut in before he finished his sentence. "Lia's nearly 18, literally in a few weeks."

"Sorry mate." He shook his head sympathetically.

We got to mom, who was hooked up on a drip.

"We're draining the painkillers from her now, she could wake up tonight, but if not, definitely tomorrow. You were lucky we got her here in just enough time. I'll let you two spend a bit of time with her, but you'll have to leave at 11."

We took our seats beside mom.

"Okay" we said in unison.

He turned to leave.

"Anything happens, press the alarm, even if she wakes."

I pulled the alarm closer next to me.

"Thank you doctor."

I looked at mom lying limp in her bed, I gripped her hand.

"You'll be okay." I whispered.

"You'll wake up, and get better, and we'll be happy. Nothing bad will happen again." I cried.

"Hey Vin, it's okay." Lia pulled her chair closer to mine.

"Tears won't help, we need to stay strong for mom."

"Okay..." I said, wiping the tears from my face with my sleeve.

Hours passed quickly and soon enough it was time to leave.

I held onto the side of moms bed as Lia tried to pull me away.

"Come on Vin, we have to go."

"But I don't want to leave her. What if she never wakes up? What if this is the last time we talk to her."

She started crying.

"Don't talk like that Vin. It's the last thing we want to think about. The doctors said she'd wake soon enough. Come on."

She gave one last tug and I pulled away.

"See you tomorrow." I whispered, turning one last time to look at mom.

|| Writers Notes ||

Another short chapter as I feel this story is quite long winded.

Really enjoying writing this on the bus, next to a guy who keeps brushing his leg against me 😳

Don't people know how to sit normally!? 😂😂
