Chapter 19

Kyle looks after Mila's retreating figure, and he can immediately feel a shift in the air.

Jace nudges his shoulder and points towards the police officer who stands next to Peter.

The officer is talking with someone over the phone, and as he does he slowly walks over to the judge.

He whispers something into his ear and the judge gestures to the still talking attorney.

The attorney quickly takes his place on the right side of the Bench, and keep quiet.

Peter turns around, and he looks at the empty seat between Jace and Kyle. He turns his gaze over to Jace, and then towards the door, Mila walked out of just a minute ago.

Kyle understands the message before Jace does, and he is already out of the door.

Jace keeps his gaze locked with Peter.

"May the accused and his attorney rise."

Peter breaks the contact and rises as the judge told him to do.

"The trial has been moved a week. There has been an accident which could have something to do with this case."

"Court lifted." He lifts the hammer and bangs it in the table.

Mila and Kyle sit in the police car towards the station, where Mila is going to identify a body.

Mila hasn't said a word, since the phone call from the police.

When Kyle came over to her in the hallway, she was laying on the floor in a tight ball, crying her heart out.

As the car came, Kyle had to carry her out.

The police have one week time to gather new evidence regarding the case if they want to use it in the trial.

But Mila doesn't care.

All she cares about right now is getting her emotions under control.

She doesn't know how to feel about this situation.

Not like it's new territory for her, but she didn't think she would have to go through this kind of pain so soon, again.

And last time she had her family to share the pain.

Now she has lost a part of that family.

Again.

"Do you think it is who they think it is?" Kyle asks, deliberately not saying the name.

Mila doesn't think twice, before answering; "Yes."

As Peter and the two guards are about to walk out of the courtroom; Jace calls out to stop them.

Peter looks over his shoulder, at the fuming Jace who is standing by the barrier between the attorney's table and the seats for the public.

"You knew." He accuses.

Peter nods to the guard on his right side, initiating that they should keep moving.

"You knew!" Jace calls out again to the retreating figure of his enemy, "You son of a bitch, you knew!"

The door closes behind Peter, and he can no longer hear his accusations.

He looks down at the ground, feeling for the first time in his life, a little bit ashamed.

Jace is right. He knew this would happen.

He even tried to look sad when he got eye contact with Mila, but she just looked eerie at him, and couldn't see past his facade.

Maybe he should have tried harder? Or maybe tried contacting her, when he figured out what would happen.

They are now in the changing rooms, and one of the police officers lock his handcuffs off.

The orange jumpsuit is ready in the corner, for him to change.

As he changes, he can't help but think his life over.

Peter was a mother's boy. She gave him all the love he could have asked. It didn't matter that his dad never seemed to notice him. If he had his mom, everything would be alright.

But she was afraid.

Afraid that he would turn out like his dad.

So she left him. In the middle of the night.

He was laying in his bed when he heard the shrieking sound of a car driving away.

His dad didn't care.

Peter then turned into his dad. Just like his mom had feared.

What would she think if she knew what he had done?

He, actually thought for a second during his senior year, that his life would change. That the course he was going down would turn upside down.

And that was the moment he met Mila.

She came into his life, totally unexpected.

He thought when he saw her coming towards him, that she would be the one to change him for the better.

Peter, didn't know back then, she would be the reason he is an even bigger monster than he ever thought he would be.

The moment Mila asked him for trouble, he knew she wouldn't be good for him.

But, he did it anyway.

At first, he did everything he could to be considerate to her.

Though, when other boys started to notice her, and the way she didn't care, pushed his buttons. He started getting possessive and aggressive.

He loved her. He truly did.

But she never did.

She broke his heart, and he was dying to destroy hers.

That's why he set fire to their house. He wanted her to know, how it felt to lose everything.

Like the way, he had lost her.

His everything.

What more poetic way, than kill what she fought so hard to gain?

She played him, and he had let her do it.

Mila wanted the attention of her family, and now she was the centre of it.

The centre of all of their problems.

Peter got his revenge, but at what cost?

The girl he loved now despises him, and he understands it.

He had used the best time of his life to destroy hers. Because he, couldn't be a part of it.

The two officers leave him as they reach the jail. And one guard takes their place.

"Where are you taking me?" Peter demands as they walk past his cell.

"You have a visitor."

Peter lets out a huff. He knows who the visitor is.

He is one of the biggest mistakes he and his dad have ever made.

They don't know why he especially picked out them, but the moment he offered Jeremy cash, they were sold.

Peter doesn't know why he hates the Wilson family so much.

The terms were that they would do everything to destroy them, and at that time Peter was more than willing to agree.

Now? Not so much.

"What do you want? I thought we were over."  Peter says the minute he sits down.

The man leans across the table. "You really think I am done with you?"

Peter gives him a dumbfounded look. "There is nothing I can do when I am in jail, so why do you keep contacting me?"

He leans back against his chair and gives Peter a Chesire smile, "Oh, Peter. Did you seriously think I visited you because I needed you?" The man laughs. "I, just, wanted to make sure you stayed in here."

"What are you talking about?"

His laugh is cut short. "Did you, actually think, you would get away with what you have done?"

He continues. "The plan was not only to bring down the Wilson family. I wanted to bring your family down too, Peter. "

The man rises, as does Peter.

"I have enjoyed our small talks, but now I must get going. I hope you have a pleasant stay here. We wouldn't want all of my effort to go to waste, now would we?"

He leaves the room, and Peter does nothing.

He stands frozen in the middle of the visitor room.

Completly dumbfounded.

What would his mother think?
