Chapter 10: I Forgot About My Husband
Chapter 10: I Forgot About My Husband
After the inauguration and the oath-taking ceremonies, we walked out of the auditorium.
Jasper and all the other presidents were still on the stage, talking with Principal Taylor and some other staffs.
I pulled out the phone from my pocket. Finally.
You know the feeling of utter disappointment you feel when there is no new notification?
My phone looked lifeless without a single notification, I frowned and looked at the time, It was 12.35, 5 minutes until the lunch break, the assembly took two hours and a break in between to get over.
When I asked Raiden where we supposed to go now, he said it was okay for us to go directly to the cafeteria, as the bell will be ringing before we reach back to our class.
An internal joy liberated in me when my phone vibrated with a text message. It was from Jasper, asking for me to join him in the roof, the same place we met yesterday. I replied with an okay and turned to that way, completely forgetting the two was walking with me.
"Where are you going ?",Raiden demanded, making me freeze.
"Um, to my locker, "I lied looking over my shoulder and pointing towards the direction with my hands.
He shook his head in denial, "No, you're coming with us. To eat. You still look pale."
"It's okay Raiden, I am fine now", I replied throwing a big smile at their direction, "You guys carry on."
"No, you coming with us, "Raiden ordered crossing his arms, his eyes narrowed at mine daring me to protest, "you are not okay."
When I open my mouth again to reason, Clayton cut me off.
"Just hear him okay. You almost fainted in there. And if you faint for real, I would've to carry you," Clayton complained rolling his eyes, "And I don't want to do that."
"You don't have a choice now, bro," Raiden smirked.
I sighed and followed them. The walk to the cafeteria didn't take a long time.
As soon as we entered through the double door, the smell of food hit me like a truck and my stomach reacted with a loud growl.
Raiden chuckled after hearing that, "Come on", he nodded to the food court.
I looked around the large area once and beelined with the two to collect the plates.
The cafeteria was fancy, surrounded by three sides of long windows and the remaining side, a simple plan wall painted in grey and with a blue metallic door through which we entered. The long windows gave a clear view of a huge garden outside, filled with plants with different kind of flowers. The school is freaking awesome.
I don't particularly like flowers but I am pretty sure Jasper loves this place.
The interior was filled with a series of roundtables each with approximately six chairs, a high chandelier, and the food stalls were by the wall.
After getting our lunch plates filled with food, Raiden and Clayton walked across the room to their table, occasionally nodding and greeting at the people, who addressed them along the way. I followed them awkwardly when most of the people they greeted looked at me in question. When they finally reached to the table located over the edge of the room, next to one of the long windows, I sighed in relief.
I can't take any more eyes today
"You know I could take a seat somewhere else," I hinted looking around to find an empty table as they took their seat around the roundtable, leaving a chair between them.
"Just sit and eat, "Clayton grumbled rolling his eyes, a stole a fry from Raiden's plate.
Raiden frowned looking over his friend but nodded his head at his word and he took a bite of his sandwich.
I sighed and sat. Our initial plan to stay away from Jasper and his friends so far is going really well.
Yeah, sarcasm.
"Where the hell is Jasper?, "Raiden exclaimed after a minute, looking around when the sophomore president reached her table and her friends cheered on her, "He is gonna skip today too?"
Oh my god
I forgot about him.
I forgot about my husband.
It's been more than 20 minutes since Jasper's last message, that he will be waiting for me at the roof, and I completely forgot to inform him that I am not coming.
Fuck
I took my phone from the pocket and typed a message as fast as I could.
"What is he doing here?" Jasper barked behind me, making me jump in fright.
I lowered the phone to my thighs with the message still not send. Jasper walked around the table and stood behind the empty chair between his friends, directly facing mine. He was no longer wearing the beautiful tuxedo, but had changed back to the shirt he was wearing that morning. He had a suit garment bag over one of his forearm and a plate on the other hand. His narrowed his eyes at me in confusion and anger.
"I mean sitting near us in the class is one thing, but in the cafeteria too!. Really Ray?" Jasper whisper-shouted at Raiden, when he realized he was drawing attention to the table. He dragged an empty chair from a near table and place his garment back over it and sat at the empty chair between his friends.
It would've hurt if I didn't know Jasper was acting. He was just doing the same thing he would do if someone else sat at their table. And I knew that much.
"Told you I shouldn't sit here," I muttered lowly to Raiden and looked up to meet Jasper gaze.
"Yeah, you shouldn't have," he spat angrily making me flinch and as my throat started to dry.
That didn't feel like an act
His eyes widened in shock at my reaction, I blinked shooking my head and looked away from him, taking a sip of the juice to wet my the throat.
"Jesus, Jasper what the fuck is wrong with you, "Clayton rebuked at Jasper, "The guy almost fainted at the auditorium seems like he didn't or drink since the morning. So we took him here. Is the explanation for you now."
Jasper face morphed from shock to guilt, he turned to look at me, his eyes screamed sorry, I bit my lips and looked away from him.
"And he would be here even if he didn't 'almost faint', and he is going to be sitting here every day" Raiden stated daring his friends to say otherwise, "And Jasper? Apologise. NOW"
Jasper nodded with a low sigh and turned to face me. His eyes already spoke how sorry he was, but he said it out anyway, "I am sorry, um Aeron. I didn't mean it that way."
"It's okay," I mumbled looking down.
"Now that's solved," Raiden jested thrusting his palm at Jasper and looked at him expectedly, "Gimme."
"What?"Jasper's eyebrows knotted in confusion.
"The Badge. Gimme the badge, "Raiden cleared.
"Oh, I kept it on the locker. No use in bringing it here," Jasper shrugged nonchalantly, and the twitch over his left eyebrow said otherwise.
He lied.
I could tell he was lying clear as day, but his friends seemed to believe him.
Raiden pouted in disappointment but pronounced that he would be to be the first one to see the badge the next hour and Jasper nodded promising him.
Another Lie
Why would he lie?
Especially about this?
The rest of the lunch went with Raiden and Clayton filling in Jasper with how they spend their summer and Jasper nodding his head, inputting when necessary, eyes occasionally drifting to me and me doing everything to avoid his eyes.
When Raiden and Clayton started their own conversation, Jasper took his phone out and swiped over the screen and the buzz on my phone answered what he was doing.
I didn't reply though. I didn't even bother to open the messages to answering him.
Because one, I was still mad at him.
Two, Raiden would ask who I was texting with, and I don't have an answer for that.
Three, I was eating my delicious slice of pizza and I don't want any disturbance.
My phone kept buzzing and didn't pause my eating a second to open and the messages.
"Uh-oh," Clayton and Raiden muttered in unison making me snap my attention to them. Both of their eyes were on Jasper who still had his face glued to the phone with a frown.
Feeling the weight of our gazes, Jasper looked up at the three of us, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion, "What?"
"You have that face," Raiden's fingers learned to circle Jasper's.
"What face?" Jasper touched his face, his frown deepening.
"The face you have when you know that world is about to end.",Clayton started
"The face you have when to hear someone is about to die of a terminal disease," Raiden added.
"The face you have when you got one mark reduced in chemistry."
"The face you have when the tree-no the plant you grew died."
"The same face you have everytime you and Myles have a fight," Clayton finished.
Wow
And I thought I was the only one who knew about Jasper.
"Shut up, you two" Jasper grumbled looked away, his face heating up without any other trace of emotion except guilt and sadness.
"What is it this time?" Clayton asked slowly.
"Before you start, whatever happened, Myles is right," Raiden declared licking the sauce from his finger, drawing a chuckle from me.
Jasper snapped face at me, and I smiled wiggling my eyebrows at him, making his shoulders sag his relief.
"Nothing big, But it's my fault," he said, his eyes landing on mine. I nodded in approval making him roll his eyes.
"Always is, "Clayton confirmed.
My eyes were still on him when Raiden turned to me raising an eyebrow, "What about you, my twin bro? Any girlfriends I should know about?".
"Try Boyfriend," a female voice said making me choke on the air, "Hey Ronny."
