Chapter 3
I woke up to the sound of footsteps outside my door, and after years of training in the military, I knew what to do to avoid an attack. I quickly, yet silently, lept out of bed and hid in my closet. I heard people burst into my room yelling and shooting at my bed, their voices sounding like those of Mitch, Jason, and Jerome, but they soon went quiet, confused, and wondering where I was. An Idea popped into my head. I soon heard them talking again.
"Where's Ian? Mitch, I thought you said he was sleeping here." Okay, so far there's Jason, that's his voice for sure, and I guess Mitch is here too.
"He was sleeping here not even a half hour ago! There's no way he could just disappear like that."
"Let's look around." Jerome. "He's gotta be here somewh-AAHHHHH!!!"
I jumped out of the closet while screaming like a little girl, scaring all three of the men in my room, but all the screams soon turned into laughter. "I totally gotcha dudes!"
"Yes, yes you did." Jason panted, out of breath from all his screaming. "How did you know we were coming?"
"Well, I used to be in the military, and we needed to know how to survive a night attack."
"Ooohhh..." They all nodded, understanding, except for Ty, who was now at the door, woken up by our racket.
"You were in the military? Why?" The curious headphone wearer asked.
I was surprised, and didn't want to answer the question. I had to keep Derp a secret, or my whole life would fall apart.
Tell them, or even better, show them. Take off your glasses Ian...
I ignored the voice in my head, knowing what would happen if I listened.
"Well? Why were you in the military? Hello? Ian?"
'Oh shoot' I thought, 'I must have spaced out.' So I quickly responded with the best lie I could think of on the spot, which wasn't too far from the truth. "Because I'm an orphan and my parents left me to grow up there after they both died." Luckly, they all believed my lie.
You're a terrible lier, just tell them the truth if you want their full trust and respect. Let me play.
'Never. I know what you'll do.'
I just want to play.
'No'
"Ian! Stop spacing out!" Shouted an upset and oddly worried looking Ty.
"S-sorry dudes. Sometimes my... mind... can distract me." I responded, and mentally reminded myself it's better to just try to ignore the derp.
"It's okay Ian, just try not to do that to often, okay? It's kinda freaky." Mitch stated. "We should get to know eachother better, 'cause right now we are all sort of strangers. We didn't even know you are a military man until now, and that's most of your life!"
'Oh, no' I thought.
Oh, yesss
"Yah, let's have a party tonight! An Ian party!" Squealled Jerome. He really seems to like parties. " We can play two truths and a lie, and truth or dare, and stuff!"
"Y-yah, s-sure." I stuttered. "Wh-why n-not."
We can play with our friends Ian, games like cake throwing...
As my friends left the room, excited about tonights upcoming party, Ty looked back, stared me right in the eyes as if he was trying to solve an impossible puzzle, then eventually began to walk out. 'He doesn't believe me. He's suspisious. I have to convince him that I'm normal.'
No you don't, just take off your glasses.
"Never" Ty looked back at me. 'Oh god, I said that out loud.'
"What do you mean 'Never'?"
"N-nothing, sorry. Just thinking out loud I guess." I lied again. 'God. why do I have to be such an idiot.'
"Okaaaay..." Ty murmered as he left. 'I have to focus if I want to fit in here. I can't mess it up this soon. These dudes are so nice, without them I'd be nowhere again.' As I prepaired myself for the party tonight, I could hear the other dudes talking through the vents. It was mostly just some indecipherable murmuring, but I soon heard a voice that had Ty's tone to it, so I decided to listen in, and put my ear up to the vent. I could hear only parts of their conversation, but I could get a rough understanding of what they were chatting about.
"New... nerf... quiet... closet... mysterious... glasses... cool... butter... glasses... Ian... talking... self... weird... truth... party..."
"Ummm... Ian, what are you doing?" I froze. Quentin was standing at my door, watching me listening into his friends conversation. I had to think of another lie, and quick. "I just dropped something into the vent. I'm trying to see where it is."
"Okay." He nodded. 'Wow, He actually believed me!' "Are you sure you weren't listening through the vents?" 'Ohhhhhhhh shoot...' I had to tell the truth. Not all of it, just some.
Are you sure not all of it?
"I heard someone say my name, and I had to make sure you guys are trustworthy." The words I spoke even seemed to convince me, so Quentin must of had to believe it too. "That I'll believe. Don't let me catch you doing that again, or I'll be forced to tell the guys you've been evesdropping. It's nice to know that you trust me." He smiled. I felt a pinch of guilt at the last statement, but forced out a rather strained smile. I hate lieing, but I'm pretty good at it when I try. "Of course dude. I'll see you at the par-tay tonight!" I half-yelled while trying to force a sound of excitment into my voice, to sound more convincing. My gullible friend walked away laughing, the sound echoing down the halls.
'Whew. That was too close.'
No! It was a perfectly wasted opportunity!
'Shut up.'
No, you shut up.
'I'm just gonna sleep until the party. Hopefully I don't get woken up by a nerf attack again this time.'
All the guilt and worry felt like sand bags on my shoulders, making me feel exhausted. I climbed back into bed and fell asleep to the sound of Derp complaining.
