Chapter 19

?'s POV

I was tired, scared, and confused. Slowly, I walked up the stairs, out of Seto's chamber, and towards the door. There was a grey mist seeping from under it, but the noise at the other side of the door was too compelling for me not to want to see. It opened with a creak, but no one seemed to notice, and I can't blame them. They all just stood there, seemingly frozen in the mist. All except for two. One was caring for the other, who looked rather injured.

I heard a strange noise coming from my left. It was him, the one who killed me. Now he looked even more terrifying, and he had my friend in his clutches.

"Hey, Derp!" I heard someone yell. Looking over, I saw it was Adam. "Take me instead, you fat lard!"

Sub was dropped immediately, and Adam was next. Derp moved quickly towards my brave friend, prepared to take his life. Watching his fate unravel in the most unfortunate way, I looked around the room. Jason was tending to Seto's wounds, Mitch and Jerome were taking care of a half dead Sub, and Ty just stood blank faced, frozen in both fear and guilt. After all, every thing is his fault.

I was just... standing here... watching my friend die.

Wait...

Adams life is being drained.

What if... I...

Derp will finish us.

Maybe.... well, I'll try.

I crept across the room, not wanting Derp to hear me, and brandished myself a sword, made completely of blood. Time to coat blood in blood.

Adam's POV

"Hey Derp!" I yelled, prepared to sacrifice myself for my friend. "Take me instead, you fat lard!"

Sub was dropped immediately, and I knew who was next. Derp moved quickly towards me. I didn't move. It was a worthy sacrifice.

His clammy hands wrapped themselves around my throat, taking my ability to breathe. I really hope some one will stop Derp. I don't want to die, but more than that, I don't want my friends to. Sometimes just one second of distraction can save a life. But WHEW, what a way to die. Sacrificing yourself to your friend who is, like, possessed by a demon or something so that your friends can live.

Sky, you've served the world well.

I closed my eyes, accepting death with open arms.

I could just feel myself slipping away, when Derp dropped me onto the floor with a squeal. I opened my eyes to see the demon on the floor with a red sword in his back, blood everywhere. I couldn't believe my eyes when I recognised the man holding the sword.

"Q-quentin?!" I coughed up both words and blood. "You're alive?!"

He pulled out the sword and looked down at his kill, sighing. "I'm sorry dude. I really didn't want you to die." The reincarnation of my friend held Derp's cold head in his hand. After a moment he looked back at me, and responded. "Yah, I'm not dead. I should be, but I'm not."

"How?!" I asked, really wanting to know.

"Well, I woke up in Seto's lab, so maybe he resurrected me?" Quentin answered as he sat down next to me. It looks like he knows as much as I do. A voice came from the other side of the room.

"I had been draining my magic ever since the accident, putting it all to use on him." Spoke the now healthier Seto. "That technique is as old as time, but I'm the first sorcerer it has ever worked for."

I guess he was never supposed to die in the first place.

Time skip- 1 hour

We were all relaxing on the couch. After today, everyone needed to just sit in silence for a while, happy we were all alive. Well, all except for Ian. The silence was half recovery, half mourning. Eventually Ty and Sub went to their rooms to sleep, after all, they probably had the most stress. I was just about to follow their lead and go to bed, when a hand grabbed my arm. Whipping my head around, I saw it was just Jason. He looked scared.

"Hey buddy, what's wrong?" I asked, genuinely caring.

"M-mist." He forced out the word while pointing at the floor, where a grey mist had began to spread.

"You wait here, I'll go check it out." I told him.

Following the mist through a hall, I saw that there was nothing there.

Then where is the mist coming from?

The mist was no longer spreading across the floor, but slowly drifting down.

Wait... oh god, no.

I felt a warm liquid drip onto my shoulder, then head, then other shoulder and face at the same time. By the time I looked up and saw him, it was too late.

Derp's crooked smile fell onto me as he somehow let go of the ceiling he'd been crawling on. He must have healed while we were in the other room.

The ground came at me too fast for me to react, so my vision became blurred. His face was too hideous for me to look at, so I was a little glad for the relieving pain.

He pushed me up against the wall with his hands wrapped tight around my already bruised windpipes once again. I grabbed at my neck, but not at his hands. I had an idea in mind.

"Well, do you think I'm beautiful?" Derp asked, his smile unnaturally wide. I finally got a good grasp on my target, and only hope. My response came out raspy, but still clear English.

"Why don't you see for yourself?" I responded, smirking, as I tore off my precious amulet. I slapped the wall with my left hand, the other held the lock to my curse, now broken.

You can't shatter gold.

When Derp saw his reflection, he froze, seemingly mesmerised by it's appearance. Eventually this effect wore off, and he screeched, clawing at his eyes as he sunk to the ground, wings slowly sinking back into him. They came to a halt though, and slowly turned a pure white, with gold/blue tips and streaks.

His squeals were heard throughout the house, capturing the attention of all it's residents. Their loud footsteps could be rapidly heard echoing through the halls as the approached us. My amulet was back around my neck the moment before the first person arrived, being Jason.

Soon everyone was just standing there, half staring at the now angelic Ian laying before them, the other half admiring their new pure gold wall. A groan woke them from their trance.

"I-ian?" asked Seto, worried for his friend.

"What happened?" Our friends voice was raspy, but nothing like Derp's. In fact, I think it was the most beautiful think I'd ever heard, with wings to fit. He looked at us, now all crowded around him, smiling, and noticed the beautiful wings on his back. Then shook his head. Looking back up, only fear filled his eyes.

"What happened? Am I dead?" Ian asked, taking a step back. Well, it was more like pushing himself back, because he couldn't seem to regain balance.

"Your not dead, dude." I tried to calm the terrified man. "Why would you ask that?"

The response never came. Well, not verbally anyway. It came with a shaking finger, pointing straight at Quentin, the man who his alter-ego had brutally slain. Then, the finger moved towards his wings, bringing his eyes along with it.

Another step back.

Seto laughed. "You're not dead, but you are free!" Ian's face was painted with confusion.

The sorcerer continued, this time with the volume of his voice raised to go over the laughter of Mitch and Jerome, who were a little busy rejoicing their friends new found freedom. "When Derp saw his reflection in the smooth gold, he must have seen something inside himself, something he didn't want to see. When his corruption left you, his form didn't. I guess those wings were always there, just shrouded by mist. Either way, Derp isn't gone, as you may tell by those." Seto gestured at the wings. "But, his corruption is. Dude, you're free from the taint of corruption."

Ian looked like he'd never been happier. His smile grew unnaturally wide once again, but this time it was in a good way, bringing joy to replace the fear. Excited, he unfolded his new wings and gave them a flap. Soon his feet were floating just above the ground. Then a foot. Then two feet. Then he had to go outside, as the ceiling was a little too low.

We got a wonderful air show that night. It was full of excitement, relief, and all around good feels.

A while into the show, Ian froze mid-air, wings missing a beat and were struggling to recover. Eventually it looked like he shook it off and continued the show.

Is he okay? All this must be hitting him pretty hard. He must just be thinking.

With no worries in mind, I sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the one of a kind show. A couple minutes later, Ian swooped down, exhausted. He closed his eyes, and the wings sunk into his back.

"I'm going to bed. I'll see you dudes later." Ian sighed and shuffled back into the house. Looking around, I saw that Mitch and Jerome weren't here.

"Hey guys, do any of you know where the Canadian and the Bacca went?" I asked. Sub, who they'd been sitting next to, took out a pencil and his notepad, flipping to a blank page. 'They went inside.' It read.

"Why?" Jason asked, now curious. More scribbling could be heard.

One word was new on the page. 'Merome?'

Laughter filled the night sky with Quentin's deep giggles only making us laugh arder, like an infinite reaction. Sub's smile lit up like a torch in the dark. Once we finished with our jokes, it was decided that outside was too cold. Seto opened the door without his hands, startling me at first, until I remembered, oh yah, magic, right.

Seto bowed down and pointed his arms towards the door, then looked up at us. "M'lady" The sorcerer spoke with a posh British accent. I laughed as Sub, Ty, Jason and I walked through the door. We turned back to see Seto stopping Quentin from coming in.

"I'm very sorry sir, but there is a strict no fish policy."

"I'M AN AMPHIBIAN!" He exploded, earning us a 'quiet down' from the neighbours.

30 minutes later

The fatigue kicked in, sending us all straight to bed. I waved good night to my equally as tired friends and closed the door behind me. As I placed my head on my pillow, I fell asleep almost immediately with one thought in my mind.

Best. Day. Evar.
