Chapter 1: The Secret
Hi! This is my new story... I got this idea from a post on tumblr and that inspired me to do this story. It's only a short story so it's going to have at least 5 chapters or maybe more but it depends.
This story is base on the secret that Hiccup and Astrid will hide from the others on the next season so I will try my best to finish this story before the new season comes out.
I hope you like it... enjoy reading :)
"Let's get back to the Edge." Hiccup shouted at the other teens as he flew through the sky. The others followed him.
"Did you get it back?" Fishlegs asked.
"Yeah." Hiccup replied. The others smiled at their victory. After a few tries they finally retrieved the dragon eye back.
"We did it, Hiccup." Astrid said happily.
"Finally." The twins said.
"I'm glad that was over." Snotlout muttered.
They all landed at the clubhouse and mounted off their dragons. Hiccup immediately grabbed the dragon eye from his saddle and put it on a table ordering Toothless to light it.
"So anything new?" Fishlegs asked.
"Nope, it's the same. Good thing Viggo only got the dragon eye and not all the lenses." Hiccup said in relief.
Suddenly a terrible terror flew towards them. It landed on Astrid's shoulder. "It's a letter from the chief." She said after giving the terror a scratch and getting the letter from it.
"What does it say?" Fishlegs asked.
"It says that:
"Hiccup, you and the others need to go back to Berk as soon as you received this letter.
- Stoick."" Astrid said reading the letter.
"Saddle up gang. We're going back to Berk." Hiccup ordered.
They all quickly got on their dragons and flew towards Berk. Hiccup brought the dragon eye and the lenses with him to keep it safe.
"Why do you think the chief wants us back on Berk?" Fishlegs asked.
"I don't know but it must be important." Hiccup said.
"Maybe, Dagur blasted houses again." Ruffnut guessed making Astrid looked tensed.
"Or maybe even worse. What if the Dragon Hunters attacked Berk. That would be awesome!" Tuffnut suggested excitedly which made Astrid glare at him. She ordered Stormfly to fly faster making them a little bit ahead of Hiccup and Toothless.
"Relax, Astrid. It's not like the Hunters are going to get revenge on us." Snotlout said.
Hiccup glared at the them and followed Astrid. "Hey..." Hiccup said softly making her turned around to face him. "Nothing bad is going to happen." He reassured her.
"I hope you're right." She calmed down a little but she's still determined to get there as fast as she can. "C'mon Stormfly. Faster girl." She encouraged. She grabbed a roasted chicken leg in her saddle and feed it to Stormfly making her fly even faster.
"How could you feed Stormfly a chicken? Have you not have any respect?" Tuffnut asked in disbelief. "It's a good thing, Chicken isn't here with us. It would break her heart to see her fellow chicken be eaten." He said dramatically.
Astrid ignored him. Knowing that she needed to focused her attention on getting to Berk. A couple more minutes they landed on Berk and she got of her dragon immediately, grabbed her axe and prepare herself into a battle position.
The others landed after her, but they weren't as serious as she is. They just landed casually off their dragons. The chief soon approached them.
"Easy there lass, nothing bad happened." Stoick said placing a hand on Astrid's shoulder. The blonde warrior let out a sigh and calmed down.
"Why did you call us, Dad?" Hiccup asked.
"Your parents miss all of you. You can go to your houses now. They're waiting for you. You can all go back to the Edge later if you want." The chief explained.
"Oh, Thor! We thought Berk has been attack. You should make your letter clear next time Dad." Hiccup told the Chief.
The teens, except for Hiccup, mounted on their dragons ready to fly on their houses. Before Astrid could fly away with Stormfly, Stoick stopped her. "Not you, Astrid. I need to have a word with you."
"Come, you two. Let's go to the House." The two followed. Once they entered the Haddock household they saw Astrid's parents sitting on a chair.
"Good Afternoon Stoick. Hi Hiccup. How are you my sweet daughter." Àsmundr Hofferson greeted the three. He has a light tan skin. He is two inches smaller than the chief. His long straight blonde hair was loose with strands of little braided hair on each side and a short straight beard with the same color of his hair. A viking helmet was placed on his head. He's wearing a gray sleeveless tunic, which shows his muscular arms, and black strip pants along with gray fur boots. He's also wearing a pair of shoulder pads and one spiked brace on each of his wrist. His eyes were blue as ice, making him look more fearsome than he already is. His sword was placed on a scabbard that was attached to his black spiky belt. He has an average muscular built and he is also a close friend of Stoick, other than Gobber, which is the reason why he calls the chief on his name.
"Hiccup, Astrid, come and sit with us." Helka offered smiling tenderly at the two. She was four inches shorter than her husband and has fair skin. Her blonde hair was styled in a crown braid on the front and the rest of her hair was in a regular braid falling behind her back. If you look closely to her face you can see some small freckles on her cheeks, just like her daughter. She has amber eyes which are the same color of the sleeveless, long dress that she was wearing. It has long slits on both side which shows her legs that was covered with dark brown leggings. Her black fur boots has the same color of the spiky belt that was wrapped around her slender waist. She also wears metal shoulder pads and black arm bands. A quiver filled with her bow and arrows was secured to her back through straps.
"What are you doing here?" Astrid asked.
"You and your family really love weapons huh?" Hiccup whispered.
"We're Hoffersons. Of course we love carrying our weapons around. Where do you think I got my warrior spirit from?" 'But they don't wear those clothes anymore... what has gotten into them?' Astrid thought to herself.
'Typical Astrid' Hiccup thought. He smiled at her softly. The girl smiled as well. They didn't notice that they were looking at each for a couple of seconds. The chief faked cough to get their attention making them looked away blushing lightly but neither of them notice.
"We need to talked with the two of you. Now before any of you could protest. We have two rules. First, you can't run off in the middle of our talk and second you can't tell anyone about this." The chief said sternly.
The two young Vikings sat on the chair that Astrid's mother pointed. Àsmundr locked the door and Helka secured the windows. Now, the house was sealed and no one can see them or hear them talking.
"What are we going to talk about?" Hiccup asked.
"Helka and I found something on an island near Berk yesterday and we asked Stoick to call you immediately." Àsmundr started.
"What is it?" His daughter asked. Helka showed them a small wooden bottle. "It's a mixture of different herbs and substances." She explained.
"What about it?" Hiccup asked.
"That is a very important mixture." The chief said.
"It can be helpful to you when fighting the Dragon Hunters and Dagur." Àsmundr said.
"Your father knows about the Hunters?" Hiccup asked in a whisper.
"I don't know. I didn't mention anything about it to him before. Not even to mom." Astrid whispered back.
Since they were whisphering to one other, the two of them sat closer without them knowing.
"How?" The two young Vikings chorused.
"This liquid is poison." Helka explained.
"It's not just an ordinary poison. One of the liquid substance that's mixed within that bottle is a dragon spit from a dragon called the 'Wing of Death'." Àsmundr finished explaining.
"What's so special about that dragon spit?" Astrid questioned.
"And how come we've never heard of this 'Wing of Death' before? It's not even in the book of dragons or the dragon eye. How do you know about this dragon?" Hiccup interrogated.
"It's a legendary dragon Hiccup. It's not written in the Book of Dragons because people thought that it was all a myth." Stoick reasoned.
"When we found it, we went to Gothi to tell us what it is. She told us about this dragon who spits poison that can kill both people and dragons called the 'Wing of Death'." Helka said.
"Why haven't we encounter it before?" Hiccup asked.
"Gothi said that maybe it's species was already extinct. We were afraid that this bottle might belong to the Hunters. And if they get their hands into it, they will become even more impossible to defeat." Àsmundr said.
"Why can't we let the other riders know about this?" Astrid query.
"It's too risky. Besides, the others aren't really good at keeping secrets. Are you really going to trust the twins and Snotlout not to tell anyone about this?" The chief raised his eyebrow.
"He got a point Astrid." Hiccup said.
"Are you saying that me and Hiccup are good at keeping secrets?" Astrid asked.
"You could say that." Àsmundr said. "You've been hiding your feelings for Hiccup in four years for Thor's sake." He whispered to Helka and Stoick.
"I'm not sure if I'm good at it but I'll try. You know Astrid, of all people, you should know that you're great at hinding something from everyone. You already did that with Heather remember?" He said quietly so Astrid was the only one could here him but edge was stilk evident in his tone.
Astrid stayed in silence. She didn't want to argue with Hiccup. She's not mad at him or anything. He has a reason to be mad at her. She just felt sad. Upset. Because everytime something about secrets or trust was in a topic, Hiccup can't seem to forget that she kept a secret from him and that was the first time that she ever did it so it made her guilty. She knew that he rely on her but she rely on him too so it really hurt her everytime they have a misunderstanding.
While tension was on the two, their parents were talking about them.
"Hiccup's been doing the same. Although I'm not sure for how many years. I can tell that it's more than six years maybe?" Stoick whispered back to Àsmundr and Helka. The three adults laugh quietly to themselves.
"Good thing they didn't noticed that you kept whispering to each other." Helka commented quietly.
"They didn't even noticed that they like each other a lot. So it's not really a surprise of them being clueless." Àsmundr whisphered to his wife and the chief.
"They also didn't noticed that they were sitting so close and that they were staring at each other earlier." Stoick said to Helka and Àsmundr in a whispher. They all smiled trying to hide their quiet laughters. Hiccup and Astrid are still silent since tension was surrounding them, which is good for the adults because the two teenagers cannot hear what they are talking about.
"What do you want us to do?" Astrid asked breaking the tension between her and Hiccup. The three looked at them with serious faces.
"We need you both to plant these seeds in a secret place where no one but you two only knows." Helka handed her daughter a pouch full of seeds. "Each day, you are going to pour one drop of this liquid substance to the plant. One drop only." She said.
"Why?" The two asked in unison.
"Those seeds are medicinal plant. We need you to pour one drop of the mixture in it everyday so that you can use it incase of emergency. By pouring drops of it, the plant can absorb the poison making that plant poisonous. The medicinal plant will contradict with the effect of the poison making it less poisonous than it already is.That's also the only way to get rid of this poison. You can't just throw it away cause it could kill many people or other creatures such as dragons and fishes. You can used the poisonous plants on your enemies if needed. You can boil it and deep your weapons on it. That way, when you attack your enemy they will get poisoned. Your mission will be finished once the bottle is empty. You need to tell us immediately if you did it." Helka instructed.
"And remember NOT TO TELL ANYONE ABOUT THIS. KEEP IT A SECRET." Stoick said strictly.
"There's a reason why we gave you this mission. It's because we trusted you. Don't ruin that trust. Guard the plant and the mixture with all your life if you must. The faith of all people and all dragons depends on it." Àsmundr said sternly. "Can we count on you Hiccup? Astrid?" He asked in a serious tone.
The two looked at each other before nodding. "Yes." Helka gave them the mixture and the two took it carefully.
"Good." The chief said. "Now get ready to get back on the Dragons Edge so you can get started with your mission immediately."
The two nodded and mounted on the back of their dragons. The three watched as the two call the other teens and flew away to the Edge. Once they were all gone, Stoick, Àsmundr and Helka closed the door.
"Nice outfits." Stoick said.
I'll try and update the next chapter tomorrow. If you want you can also check my other book "How to Tease Hiccstrid" it's also a fanfiction about Race to the Edge.
