Chapter 4
In reality, Shotaro had no reason to leave early since Sungchan left not even ten minutes after him. But, he did want to continue leaving gifts in front of his house so that he'd still come back to one.
So when the following evening came and Shotaro was spotted walking leisurely back to the area they agreed to meet in, Sungchan was puzzled but figured that the Fairy had simply wasted a little extra time while waiting and shrugged it off.
"Wait long?" Sungchan asked.
"Not at all."
And so it went.
The two headed to the pretty meadow nearly every day, Sungchan's head in the Fairy's lap like the first time they went together. It was memorable evenings like that that they enjoyed but it was also a sad time for Sungchan when he went home because he just knew that the presents he found at the door weren't from Shotaro.
Heart breaking.
But it was okay because whoever was leaving presents didn't know his heart belonged to someone and didn't know that although he appreciated their thoughts of him, they had no sentimental value since they weren’t from Shotaro.
Or at least he thought.
So as their walks progressed, the lights in their eyes got brighter and they started seeing one another in such radiant hues that they just about drowned out the radiance of sparkle Shotaro's glitter produced.
They were now acting as if they were best friends which was okay to an extent because as everyone eventually felt, they felt greedy and wanted more of their relationship than what they could get. After all, there was only one good and one evil, knowledge and ignorance respectively.
"Y'all dating yet?" Wooyoung asked one evening after Shotaro was back from his usual evening walk.
"No, silly. He's not interested in me," Shotaro laughed, slapping Wooyoung's clothed foot that was perched on his lap.
"I think you're an idiot. Do you really think he doesn't like you? He spends all his free time with you, laughs at the most boring things you do, hugs you until you're happy, calls you ‘Bub’ and more!"
"So? A lot of friends do that," Shotaro argued with a laugh.
Wooyoung couldn't believe his ears. His wings shook with exasperation beneath him where he lay, coating the sofa and parts of the ground with shiny dust. Shotaro was worse than he thought.
"Let's make a deal," Wooyoung offered. "Invite him over to help you bake because we all know you're an expert at that and accidentally keep dropping things on him. If he gets mad, he doesn't like you and if he doesn't get mad, then he does."
"What kind of stupid idea is that?" Shotaro cried, his eyes wide in disbelief at the drastic measures he was expected to take. "Of course he wouldn't get mad visibly and that doesn't mean anything!"
"TRY IT!"
"NO!"
"YES!"
The two stared at each other, their glittery eyes being much too soft and pretty to make them look serious.
"Ugh. Fine. If he hates me forever, I swear I'll get back at you no matter what."
Wooyoung clipped his pinky finger into Shotaro's one, an evil grin on his face as he did so.
"Try rubbing on him every time you wanna grab something."
"WOOYOUNG! STOP! NO!"
Peels of laughter reverberated around the room, Wooyoung sitting up to teasingly stroke Shotaro's face with a wink.
"Why do you think San-ie is wrapped around my little finger? Hmm? Even the Moon Prince can't resist me!"
"It's because you’re a whore!" The two laughed loudly at that, glitter bursting in random directions. "You're such a minx," Shotaro chuckled with a shake of his head.
"But you love me! Anyways, I have plans with the Moon Prince tonight so off I go."
Wooyoung left just the same as he had arrived.
A hug, a yell, and he was out the door.
Weird kid.
Shotaro was left alone to tend to his thoughts, wondering if Wooyoung was right in any way. He probably wasn't but it didn't sound all too bad.
Mayhaps it wouldn’t even be that noticeable since he was known to clumsily protect flowers. It'd be the same with baking or possibly even worse.
"I'll ask."
Like everyone in existence, Shotaro had a day off and in his case, it was on Sundays. Fortunately, Sungchan also had Sundays off which meant he'd take advantage of that situation since that evening was a Saturday.
Perks of learning a lot about his friend.
Besides, baking was indeed fun even though he didn't know the least about the art.
His legs seemed to have a mind of their own and before he knew it, he was standing in front of his landline dialling the recently learned number.
"Hello?"
Shotaro blinked. When the hell did he dial? He couldn't even recall moving from the sofa.
"Oh- Hi, Channie."
The line went silent, completely awkward and Shotaro could clearly hear Sungchan breathing on the other end.
"Bub? Did you call so we can listen to each other breathe?" Sungchan asked with a laugh.
Shotaro could feel himself slowly die in embarrassment.
"No. I wanted to know if you wanted to help me bake tomorrow," Shotaro squeaked out, his voice cracking just a little.
"No problem. I'll be there at nine."
That easy? Boy Shotaro would’ve asked him to do something together WEEKS ago if he knew it was that simple.
"Really?"
"Yup. I'll bring chocolate chips and butter as contribution."
Shotaro clapped on his end, the landline balanced between his head and shoulder.
"I'll be waiting!"
The landline landed in the receiver with a loud slam, Shotaro having to bite his hand in an attempt to muffle his screams. It was too good to be true.
He went to sleep that evening feeling more than excited for the day ahead and what better way than to sleep in order to speed up the process?
There was definitely no better way for sure.
