Chapter 9 - Angel or Satan

"Your ass must get jealous of all the shit that comes out of your mouth." Remina says sarcastically.

"Hah, now I understand why you're behaving like this, man," Arik says with a grin. "Ath, he's that friend I told you about. He asked you to prom and you rejected him, remember? Man, you're so cheap."Arik says, and everyone in the hallway starts to laugh at Sam.

He is so embarrassed that he can't stand there. He bumps Arik's shoulders and walks past. Sam isn't the only one who's angry; Brielle is too because her boyfriend is supporting the girl she hates the most.

"Alright, the show's over, ladies and gentlemen. It's time to get back to your classes," Cody claps his hands, and everyone disperses to their respective classrooms.

"You guys go ahead. I have some business at the principal's office," Athena tells her friends, and they all nod in understanding.

Arik and Brielle begin walking, but Cody remains rooted in place, his gaze fixed on the notice board where his name appears fourth. Frustration and disappointment course through him, causing his hands to clench tightly. However, his tense hands find solace as a pair of warm hands envelop them—Remina's.

"Babe, let's go," Remi says softly, offering him comfort. They walk hand in hand, following the same path as Arik and Brielle.

Meanwhile, Athena decides against going to the principal's office. Instead, her curiosity pulls her towards Sam. She trails behind him, watching as he leads her past the new school building that's still under construction. They venture into a secluded spot hidden from prying eyes, devoid of any cameras, and far from the main school building. Only a select few are aware of this secret location.

Sam reaches into his pocket and pulls out a cigarette and lighter. Oblivious to Athena's presence, he faces the opposite direction and begins to vent his frustrations aloud.

"That jerk. I should punch him in the face."

Unbeknownst to Sam, Athena quietly approaches from behind. Startled by her sudden voice, he turns around and is taken aback by the angelic smile on her face.

"Um, what are you doing here? Did you follow me?" Sam asks, feeling a sense of relief upon seeing Athena's smile.

"You should ask me to prom in person," she says with a sweet voice that lures him in, much like a siren tempting her prey.

"Would you say yes if I did that?" Sam asks, holding his cigarette between his fingers. "Wow, you really do look like an angel, just as everyone says. You're beautiful," he adds, scanning Athena from head to toe with a questionable gaze.

"What?" Athena responds, with her innocent smile.

"Does it hurt when you fall from heaven? Beautiful," Sam attempts to flirt, but his words fall flat. He doesn't realize the impact they have.

"Did you just call me Satan?" Athena's voice turns sharp, her innocent demeanor replaced by a cold intensity.

"What? No, I just..." Sam stammers, shocked by the sudden change in Athena's tone. He doesn't realize the impact they have.

Athena slowly walks towards him, her eyes piercing and filled with icy determination. He feels as if her gaze alone could be lethal. Fear takes over, causing Sam to step back. Athena pushes him against the wall, gripping his neck tightly, depriving him of breath. Surprisingly, she is stronger than him.

"I burn with jealousy, huh?" she snarls, snatching the cigarette from his hand and pressing the hot end against the back of his hand. He groans in pain, but she doesn't stop at just one burn. She releases him after inflicting three intense burns, leaving him collapsed on the ground.

In agony, Sam winces and manages to utter, "Are you insane? You... you..."

"I am never sane," Athena replies with a sinister grin.

"Just wait until I tell everyone about this. You psychopath!" Sam exclaims, fueled by rage.

"If you tell anyone, I won't kill you, but I will make sure every person in your family suffers," Athena says coldly, her gaze filled with a chilling determination. Sam gulps, realizing she isn't joking.

Kneeling down to his level, Athena whispers in his ear, "And don't call me a psychopath. The last person who called me that is now six feet underground." She smirks and walks away, leaving Sam in a state of shock. He is too stunned to speak, having discovered the true face of Athena, the girl everyone perceives as an angel and perfect. In reality, she is a psychopath.

Evening - 04.30 PM

In the evening, the dimly lit classroom sets the stage for a serious conversation between Cody and Remina. The weight of Cody's desire to secure the prom title by any means necessary hangs heavy in the air. He yearns for his parents to have faith in him, to recognize his worth beyond their obsession with social status.

As thoughts race through Cody's mind, he silently vows to do whatever it takes to claim the prom title. He believes that winning would be the ultimate validation, a chance to prove his capabilities to his parents. Unbeknownst to him, his words are about to spark a chain of events that tests the bonds of friendship.

Sharing his ambitious plan with Remina, Cody seeks her support in their quest for victory. Yet, as he speaks, Remina's eyes betray her hesitation. Caught between loyalty to her best friend, Athena, and her own aspirations for a brighter future, she grapples with a difficult decision.

At first, Remina firmly refuses to entertain Cody's plan, fearing the devastating consequences it could have for Athena. She reminds him of Athena's powerful politician father and the potential legal troubles they may face. But Cody, desperate to prove himself, pleads with Remina to consider their own futures.

"Our future matters too, Remina," Cody implores. "We can't let our dreams be overshadowed by someone else's success. We have to do this, not only for me but also for you."

Remina's mind wanders to her own struggles, to the way her adoptive mother favored her own son and overlooked Remina's aspirations. The resentment that has built within her fuels her desire for recognition and validation.

With a heavy sigh, Remina finally relents. "Athena is my friend, but we have to look out for ourselves too. We can't let our lives be dictated by others. Let's do this for our future."

As their conversation reaches its climax, Athena unexpectedly enters the classroom, catching the tail end of Remina's statement. Startled, Cody and Remina exchange nervous glances, their hearts racing. Athena, already in a sour mood due to the earlier events with Sam, can't help but feel a tinge of suspicion.

"What are you guys talking about?" Athena asks, her voice laced with curiosity and doubt.

Cody and Remina stumble over their words, attempting to brush off Athena's question as if it holds no consequence. But Athena, sharp and perceptive, senses that there is more to their conversation than meets the eye. Doubts grow within her, fueled by the unease that permeates the room.

Little do they know, their secrets and hidden intentions are about to set in motion a series of events that will test their loyalty, trust, and ultimately, their friendship.
