Chapter 4 - Hello?
A/N: Bri, Ath, and Remi are nicknames for Brielle, Athena, and Remina. Don't confuse the names.
Athena rolls her eyes and starts to act.
"You lucky girl, did you get his number?" she says in an innocent voice. Brielle's smile drops. Suddenly, Athena feels happy.
"I forgot. I was in a hurry to share this happy news with you. ~What should I do?~" Brielle says in a fake innocent tone.
Happy, my foot. You just want to make me jealous. I don't even know if that guy is real. Athena thinks to herself.
"Don't worry, you will meet him soon," Brielle says in an energetic tone and suddenly hugs Athena, whining for comfort. Athena hates being touched, and more importantly, hugged.
I want to push her away and slap her botox-filled cheeks again and again until she falls in front of me and cries her eyes out. I really want to see her cry with that ugly face. Sigh. But I can't do that, and I have another important thing to do.
"Bri, I need to leave, urgent matter. Hope you understand," Athena releases herself from the hug and leaves the store, leaving Brielle alone.
Brielle looks confused, but eventually she continues shopping. She buys handbags, matching slippers, and makeup products. On the other hand, Athena takes a taxi because she doesn't want her father to know where she goes.
She enters the building and talks to the receptionist, who allows her inside the room of the building owner.
"Hi, Uncle Michelle," she says to Cody's father, a famous designer.
"Oh, Athena. What brings you here?" he asks her with a sweet smile and gestures for her to sit down.
"I was here shopping and thought of seeing you. How are you, Uncle?"
"I'm great. Are you shopping for a prom dress? Did anything catch your eye?" he asks her.
"Unfortunately no, Uncle. Maybe you can help me," she pouts.
"Oh, sweet girl. I would love to, but you see, I'm working on Remina's dress and your prom is in a week. I don't have enough time to make yours," he says and shows her the dress he was making for Remina.
Athena knew he would say this. He wants his son and his son's partner to win the prom title. He must have known about the recommendation letters. But Athena didn't come here without a plan.
"It's fine, Uncle. I understand. But Uncle, do you know someone named Thara?" Athena asks.
When he hears the name Thara, he feels uneasy. He is not sure how Athena knows about Thara.
"Th-Thara, no. Who is she? This is my first time hearing her name. Yeah."
He knows who Thara is but doesn't want to say it, and Athena can see through his lies. She opens her phone and shows him a picture of a dress.
"The pattern of this dress is exactly like your last year's collection, isn't it?" she says. He starts to sweat. This was something he wanted to bury.
"She must have copied your pattern. Let's file a complaint against her uncle." Knowing the truth, she says, "I'll ask my dad to support you."
He had settled things with Thara last summer with money. If this news gets out, his entire career will be at risk. Copying someone's design is offensive.
"No need, Athena. She is a newbie. Let go of this matter, it's not a big deal," he says.
"No, Uncle. She copied one of your designs, and she will copy every design of yours. We shouldn't let this matter go. We must bring her to court and make her lose everything she owns. The person who copies the work of others must face the consequences. Am I not right, Uncle?" she says, smiling.
She knows he had copied the design from Thara, but she can't blackmail him directly. She wouldn't want to break her perfect image for anything. Cody's father responds exactly as she predicted.
"Athena, leave this matter. You want a prom dress, right? Tell your uncle how you want your dress designed," he says, trying to change the topic.
"But you said you didn't have time..."
"It's for my sweet girl. I can manage."
Athena smirks.
She had gotten what she wanted. She knew if she asked about Thara, he would do the favor just to shut her mouth.
"I want something that goes well with my name. I hope you understand what I mean."
"Yeah. Leave it to Uncle."
He knows what she means. He isn't a renowned designer for nothing, and he knows his work must satisfy her.
Athena nods and leaves the room. She gets into the car and transfers five thousand dollars to someone's bank account.
Knowing a journalist who loves gossip is good. Athena thinks to herself and smiles.
Her phone rings. It's an unknown number. She answers the call.
"Hello?"
There is no response from the other side.
"Hello? Who are you?"
Again, no response. She cuts the call, thinking it's a wrong number. What she didn't know was that unknown person would soon turn her life upside down.
[4 days left for Prom night...]
Who is that caller?
Why doesn't Athena like to be touched?
